u need to pay extra for everything, eg coffee in the room (we had only two capsules for 7 days), they charge £10 for bathrobe to use pool and jacuzzi, couple of £ to use microwave… I understand it, but if you paying that much for a hotel it should be included

The Appenroyal was a great hotel in Zermatt. The staff was helpful and the hotel was clean. The standard room was very small but we also had the family suite and it was amazing. The breakfast was good and they packed us lunch to go instead of breakfast for the last morning when we had to catch a very early Glacier Express train. The hotel has elevator access to the a tunnel very close to the center of town so it was easy to get around. They picked us up from the train station in the Electric Shuttle. The indoor pool & hot tub was nice after our adventure at Gonergrat. Overall a great stay.

There is a crane currently (July 2025) blocking the perfect view of the Matterhorn but they let us know in advance and it wasn't really a big deal.

Alpenroyal is hands down the best hotel in Zermatt for me across all categories. From the moment we arrived, everything about our stay was seamless and exceeded expectations. The Matterhorn view is absolutely majestic—something you have to see to believe. The hotel’s facilities are perfectly tailored for a relaxing and comfortable stay. I especially enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi, which offered a serene and scenic escape after a day of exploring. The staff were phenomenal—always friendly, attentive, and eager to help with anything we needed. Although the location is slightly uphill, it never felt tiring because the view kept us in awe the entire time. Plus, their shuttle service was incredibly convenient, especially with our luggage. Breakfast was another highlight—fresh, delicious, and plentiful.

Nothing to be specific. Location is 10+ minute walk from train station and involve bit steep walk for some part. My family enjoyed the walk and honestly I enjoyed too other than the steep part that reminded me my fitness level. Hotel offer complementary shuttle till 7:00PM Only irrespective we wanted to walk to the hotel. Once you are checked-in they offer lift option so the steep part can be avoided but we did choose to walk couple of times and with out luggage even I enjoyed as well.

View was wonderful, even though there is currently a crane nearby that blocks a portion. Shortcut tunnel is delightful, one of my favorite things about the experience. Little hotel bus the drove us to train station was wonderful. Balcony was wonderful, so pleasant and peaceful out there.

Pillows could have been better. Be sure to use a taxi or hotel bus to get there with your luggage. It isn't a walk you want to do with luggage, but once you check in and get shortcut tunnel access card, all is good.

I like that its close to Murrini Viewpoint and the hotel itself serve spectacular view of matterhorn, you can even view the golden matterhorn without going to murrini

I almost overslept and missed my train. The morning manager saved my life. He knocked on my door and personally drove me to the train station just in time. I can’t thank him enough. All of the staff were wonderful, including the front desk, receptionist, but the manager who took me to the train saved my trip. I am eternally grateful.

I loved the charming Alpine architecture of Hotel Alpenroyal, which perfectly blends with the stunning natural surroundings of Zermatt. The rooms were cozy, well-appointed, and offered breathtaking views of the mountains. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with any request. The location was ideal, providing easy access to local attractions and hiking trails, yet peaceful enough for a relaxing retreat. The breakfast spread was delightful, with a wide variety of fresh, delicious options to start the day.

There wasn’t much to dislike, but if I had to mention something, it would be that the Wi-Fi connection could be slightly faster in some areas of the hotel. However, this minor issue didn’t detract from the overall wonderful experience.

Fast check in, ample space at the waiting room; warm hospitality from all staff. Our room was on the first floor and had access to the terrace with impressive views of the Matterhorn. Snow cover on the terrace helped us keep our drinks chilled. At night remember to stargaze on the terrace if the sky is clear! Breakfast was lovely. If walking over from the train station, avoid the hike up Riedweg! Instead head for Sunnegga Blauherd Rothhorn Funnicular And Cable Car Station; enter and walk right in along the long tunnel and keep left to reach the elevators that will bring you up to Riedweg. Turn right and the hotel is just 2 min away. At check in; staff will give access card to the lift that will bring us down to the ground level (through neighbouring Chalet Hotel Schönegg) very convenient! Taxi service complimentary; front staff promptly arranged the complimentary ride from the hotel to the train station during our check out. Happy customer! Definitely returning here for our next ski trip in Zermatt.

Very welcoming, traditional and clean. Much better breakfast buffet than I had expected based on the photos, nice pool area pool, not hot, but definitely not cold. Either, one drawback is ski room does not have dedicated locked cabinets, but very easy to use elevator and tunnel system to get to the village since the hotel is high up on the hill would take quite the energy to walk back up. Altogether a very good experience nice choice!
