Classic British hotel, a step back in time in the best possible way! Nice bar, great barman! Rooms excellent.

Disappointed we couldn't have dinner, reception staff were offhand and unhelpful when we arrived, especially regarding my wife's needs (wheelchair user)

Staff were very helpful. We were given an upgrade to a sea view, the view was fantastic. And we had a balcony.

Restaurant not open long enough in the evening

The room we had gave us a birdseye view of the bandstand so we could see David Bowie and Ed Sheeran from the window. The music was really loud and clear. The rooms are not cleaned while you're staying which is good because you don't want the cleaners hovering outside for you to go down for breakfast only to find they are still there when you get back.

The menu was disappointing. It had been so good last year. Mixed vegetables and fish in crispy crumb were on every night. There was a function on while we were there and another one coming up so the dining room was changed to tables of ten , we prefer small tables for two.

The bedroom was very wheelchair accesible. It had a fully wheelchair accessible en suite bathroom and the bedroom was very large. We had plenty of room to move the wheelchair in the room. The corridors where very wide and there was an accessible lift. Our room had a good view of the sea and we were opposite the bandstand so we could listen to the concerts. The breakfast and evening meals were lovely with plenty of choice and variety each evening.. It was a buffet so there was always plenty to eat. The staff were very helpful and supported my wife who uses a wheelchair a great deal. The hotel was overall very pleasant and clean and tidy. We had a great stay at Cavendish hotel and we would certainly go there again. We would recommend it to other people.

There was only 1 lift so occasionally we had quite a wait to access the various floors we needed to get to. There was no wheelchair access from the front of the hotel. So we could only access the hotel from the back entrance / car park via the basement. My wife found the mattress was too soft for her bad back.

Myself and my partner love the property and only ever stay at this hotel when In Eastbourne regularly

When we were in the bar, a member of staff, I believe his name was Alex, had his friends in there, he was obnoxious and rushing to get finished so called last orders early. More horrifying, one of his friends mentioned out loud and in a threatening manner to ‘shank’ someone. We believe it was aimed at my partner as he’d asked for more ice and was denied it. They three boys left in a blue VW car parked right outside to meet someone for a ‘drop’. Two of the same friends were in the bar again on Monday afternoon with the same member of staff. I have pictures of the car parked outside on both occasions. There rude ‘street’ attitude left us both massively uncomfortable and it spoilt part of my partners surprise 50th birthday evening away

The property was nice but the room I was assigned to initially was very poor. The windows didn’t close properly and there was complete filth on the outside of the window. There was no plug in the bathroom just a chain and the room stunk of smoke! It was a small room with no light and the beds seem to have been put together to make a bed! The base was not solid. As a lone traveller I felt unsafe there too. I went down to reception with my friends and asked for an upgrade and was given a beautiful room on the floor above with a balcony and a lovely big en-suite shower and bath. It felt so nice to be upgraded. Breakfast was pleasant and the staff were nice. The reception area was nice and well maintained.

Lovely location, right opposite the Bandstand so got free concerts too. Paid extra for a superior room and it was spacious and well equipped with a stunning view. Reception very helpful when there was an issue with the bed. Two large fans for the room came in handy as it can get hot. A very powerful shower and spacious bathroom. All staff were very professional and friendly from reception to the bar and the restaurant. I would definitely recommend and would stay again.

Bed was very uncomfortable as it's two single beds put together. Needed an extra topper, which was provided. Pillows are rock hard. Room quite warm and only one window opened to 6 inches. Fans were used to keep the temperature reasonable. Lift didnt work on the first day so had to use the staff lift which was awful.

Wonderful management skills, I was upgraded to an elite room as they had one available. For the price I paid, it was a lovely surprise to a lovely spacious room. I have returned and will continue to as a result of this treatment.

Although I appreciate some were new manners of staff. I felt the reception staff were cold and not welcoming. It would have been nice to be spoken to on entering and departing from the hotel. Asking if there is anything that I needed. For example...I forgot several times to ask for fresh towels. I didn't know that the bin would not be emptied and it was too be placed outside. One member of staff yawned in my face. They were mainly taking between themselves or on their phones.

Fabulous grand old building. Brilliant location. Sizable suites, sea view. On-site parking. Town centre walkable 5 mins. Reasonably good choice of hot and cold breakfast options.

I appreciate buildings like this are hugely expensive to maintain - only to be expected that it was a little tired in places with some updating/regeneration required. Breakfast ingredients could have been better - hot dishes were Luke warm and could have been better quality. Pastry and bread options limited, I would have preferred a selection of fresh loaves rather than white or brown sliced

Fortunately the lower staff level were very helpful and tried their best. Unfortunately: The senior levels were sadly lacking, there were a lot of people needing service like drinks in the bar and snacks. But the barman was alone and even had to change the beer barrels with a lot of customers waiting to be served. Then we were refused bar snacks and sandwiches. Giving only the option of expensive buffets. I am one who believes in the old ways that the customer should be treated well and not " Have what we tell you, you can have or nothing at all." What happened to the customer comes first? Sign of the times? Not mine.
