Great staff, always helpful. The room was very clean and nice. Very good restaurant, both breakfast and dinner. We have allergy and they met our wishes in every way. Although the location is not in the city center it is so nice to wake up with birds singing in front of your window, instead of traffic sound. Short walk to Arthur Seat.

The noise from above, someone in the room on the next floor was walking like a norvegian troll for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. It wasn't possible to sleep. The walls and the sealing are to thin. If I come again I would like to be on the top floor.

The location was great. We loved the views of Arthur’s Seat. It was gorgeous!

The breakfast was… okay. I wasn’t overly impressed at the options provided and the milk was always gone. We had a hard time finding a good temperature for the room. We ended up asking for a fan for our room and that helped tremendously. Instead of a fancy towel warmer in the bathroom, we would have preferred outlets that all work and a shower draining water a little better. I would also encourage the staff to be cross-trained. A couple of times we asked questions to the bar staff versus the reception staff and were met with confusion. It wasn’t a big deal but more of an observation. An example would be the fan we requested. We had to tell the person in reception that the welcome guide specially states to ask for one, if desired. The woman had no idea that was an option.

The hotel exceeded my expectations. Great and bright room, bigger than what I normally find in the UK. Very kind, friendly and helpful personnel available 24/7, a good breakfast and breakfast area and a nice terrace for when it's not raining. About 25-30 min. walk to Royal Mile and a bus station about 2 minutes from the hotel with many bus lines. Very quiet the area during the evenings, no noise from the street. A plus for me was the coffe/tea maker in the room and coffe pods/ tea essentials refilled every day. I will definetly come back to the hotel if I find myself in Edinburgh again.

The staff were amazing, I got to talk with a lot of them, friendly and helpful. I got advice on what to check out while I was staying there, and where to try some of the local traditional food. The food was also pretty good, I got to try a few different items when I got back from adventuring in the town. All in all, I left the plates I ordered cleaned. Tho if you are a fan of Scooby Doo, their sandwiches are very similar to what you see that show. Stacked and Delicious.

The room window, if I wanted natural light, it was facing the window towards the bar and back door of the building so people could see into the room. Sure there was a screen (curtain) to block that from happening but I personally get subconscious about someone staring at me while I sleep or waking up.

Attractive environment, close to Queens Drive for walking, comfortable and good size room, helpful staff. Very good buffet breakfast. Chief waitress at dinner very helpful (see below).

Room not very well designed, with space wasted in bathroom, very large drawers but limited hanging space in main room. Had dinner there twice, first night fine, second night ordered shared sea-food dish, but items different from those on menu (no smoked salmon or prawns) - they had run out of certain things but inexplicably the chef did not tell anyone. However after complaints we were allowed to reorder and no charge at all made for food, so everything turned out well and waiting staff were excellent.

The breakfast was delicious, the restaurant is nice, looking out to the garden. The room was spacious, clean and had a view to Arthur's seat from the window. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location is in a quite park on the campus, however very good transport connection to the old town.

My matress was a bit soft for my liking, but I usually sleep on a board :D Also, I didn't see any lactose free or plant based milk at breakfast. However I didn't ask the staff, so they might had it, just not out with the "normal" milk.

The staff went above and beyond. Every one of them was friendly and helpful. Luisa (at the reception desk) gave us exceptional suggestions for sightseeing, and Juan and David were warm and welcoming when we ate in the restaurant or just stopped for a drink at the bar. Edward actually spent a bit of time with us in the bar as we pored over a map of Scotland, planning our road tour, and he pointed out places to see along our routes. We were sad to leave the Scholar. Wish we could have had it for every stop!

Who thought it was a good idea to have a shower without a door? You can't shower without getting water all over the floor. Then you have to use a towel to wipe it up, as the bath mat isn't big enough to soak up all the water! There should be washcloths in the rooms for a quick face washing or spongebath. Six to eight inches between the bed and the wall was too tight! It was treacherous trying to get to the far side of the bed, especially because the TV was also on the wall in that tiny space. Had to bend over the bed to avoid hitting your head on the TV - very awkward.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely location, quiet, nice leafy area right under Arthur's Seat, walkable into town and private car park. Spotlessly clean, very comfy bed, coffee machine was a bonus and quality hospitality tray. Great to have a restaurant on site too and had a very tasty supper there when we were too tired to go out.

Somewhat annoying that despite the size of the room the only mirror was hiding in a corner outside the bathroom - nowhere near a chair or power point. No hooks/rails in the bathroom for a hand towel or clothes. The shower was disappointingly feeble and the screen was completely inadequate so the floor became flooded. For a superior room which looks lovely on arrival, in fact the practical details are sorely lacking and need attention. Some small improvements would make a big difference.

The staff were fantastic, check in was easy, parking was easy, the hotel is walking distance to some lovely food options and a quick uber into the city. The location is gorgeous and the gardens are so lovely. The bed and pillows were so comfy, best we've had on our UK/Europe trip yet and the shower was huge - gorgeous waterfall shower head, so impressed. We will absolutely be back

There was only limited parking so if you do really need a park you may need to try a few times to find one. Also there was no mini fridge which wasn't an issue for us but could be inconvenient if you were staying longer.

The staff were so friendly and helpful. From my check-in experience to seeing the cleaning staff in the hallways to the breakfast crew, everyone was cheerful and lovely to interact with. My room (deluxe single) was comfortable, the single bed was larger than a typical single and the mattress was comfortable. It was quiet and peaceful at night. The breakfast was nice and fairly priced. There was a range of cold continental items, self-serve hot items (full English/scottish), and there were special items available on request at no extra charge (vegan/veggie options, poached/fried eggs, porridge). I had a few poached eggs and they were perfect!

Like other hotels in Edinburgh, the room rates are very high for what you get. But, to be fair to The Scholar, the price of the breakfast was very fair and there's no tray charge for those who want to order room service.
