The location was great. We loved the views of Arthur’s Seat. It was gorgeous!

The breakfast was… okay. I wasn’t overly impressed at the options provided and the milk was always gone. We had a hard time finding a good temperature for the room. We ended up asking for a fan for our room and that helped tremendously. Instead of a fancy towel warmer in the bathroom, we would have preferred outlets that all work and a shower draining water a little better. I would also encourage the staff to be cross-trained. A couple of times we asked questions to the bar staff versus the reception staff and were met with confusion. It wasn’t a big deal but more of an observation. An example would be the fan we requested. We had to tell the person in reception that the welcome guide specially states to ask for one, if desired. The woman had no idea that was an option.

The staff were amazing, I got to talk with a lot of them, friendly and helpful. I got advice on what to check out while I was staying there, and where to try some of the local traditional food. The food was also pretty good, I got to try a few different items when I got back from adventuring in the town. All in all, I left the plates I ordered cleaned. Tho if you are a fan of Scooby Doo, their sandwiches are very similar to what you see that show. Stacked and Delicious.

The room window, if I wanted natural light, it was facing the window towards the bar and back door of the building so people could see into the room. Sure there was a screen (curtain) to block that from happening but I personally get subconscious about someone staring at me while I sleep or waking up.

The staff went above and beyond. Every one of them was friendly and helpful. Luisa (at the reception desk) gave us exceptional suggestions for sightseeing, and Juan and David were warm and welcoming when we ate in the restaurant or just stopped for a drink at the bar. Edward actually spent a bit of time with us in the bar as we pored over a map of Scotland, planning our road tour, and he pointed out places to see along our routes. We were sad to leave the Scholar. Wish we could have had it for every stop!

Who thought it was a good idea to have a shower without a door? You can't shower without getting water all over the floor. Then you have to use a towel to wipe it up, as the bath mat isn't big enough to soak up all the water! There should be washcloths in the rooms for a quick face washing or spongebath. Six to eight inches between the bed and the wall was too tight! It was treacherous trying to get to the far side of the bed, especially because the TV was also on the wall in that tiny space. Had to bend over the bed to avoid hitting your head on the TV - very awkward.

The staff were fantastic, check in was easy, parking was easy, the hotel is walking distance to some lovely food options and a quick uber into the city. The location is gorgeous and the gardens are so lovely. The bed and pillows were so comfy, best we've had on our UK/Europe trip yet and the shower was huge - gorgeous waterfall shower head, so impressed. We will absolutely be back

There was only limited parking so if you do really need a park you may need to try a few times to find one. Also there was no mini fridge which wasn't an issue for us but could be inconvenient if you were staying longer.

The woman on reception was chatty, polite and friendly. She made my check in a pleasant experience and even put me on the 1st floor because the lift was out of order. I didn’t have to ask for this she just asked if that’s what I would prefer during my check in. I also asked for late check out and she sorted this and went through my options. It was complimentary until 12, which was fantastic as I’d had a busy week at work and was exhausted. The room was so clean! Yes you’d expect this but it was spotless! The room didn’t look worn in any way at all, the bed was the comfiest I’d had from a hotel. The temperature of the room was great and the window opened for fresh air. The bathroom was excellent, the fan worked quickly to extract steam from the shower. The scent from the hand soap etc reminded me of a luxury hotel I’d stayed in (Fife Arms hotel). I was a solo traveller and got a small single room, it was perfect for my stay. There were lots of socket points, a moveable small mirror which was great for doing my make up in, a full length mirror and mirror in the bathroom (all of these are important if you have work or a night out planned). The tea and coffee station was filled with good quality products. I did not have breakfast at the hotel. The reception staff made my checkout straight forward and called me a taxi to Waverley which took 5 mins to arrive.

The only thing that confused me was at the coffee station there was one bowl of coffee pods. The little sign for these only talked about decaf coffee (unless I read the label wrong). I wanted a coffee but wasn’t sure if they were all decaf or not. This could just be due to me not reading it properly though so it’s not really a dislike more of a confusion.

Comfortable room. Staff went beyond the call of duty as we arrived with a dog. And full car. They decanted all our stuff and put in our room: wardrobe for us. Huge thank you! The food was good.

Little things didn’t work . No one responded to my message via booking.com or to our phone message. So it took three attempts to clarify we were being out dog and had made two separate bookings. One of the windows in our room was broken and wouldn’t open. The room was too hot as a consequence . The wine is very expensive . The breakfast ran out of basics sausage egg bacon mushrooms orange juice pastries Sunday morning . Granted some of it replaced later. Some not at all.

Very quiet and comfortable, close to a swimming pool and the Holyrood park, very comfortable beds.

A bit far from the city centre but fast and east to reach by bus. At this price point you'd expect a better breakfast. Everything needed to be asked for and nothing was replenished without asking: a teapot for instance. The yoghurt and fruit salad bowls were empty almost immediately after breakfast started and stayed empty, even though staff members must have seen them because they walked right past them. I was there for 4 nights, went to breakfast around 9 or earlier, and I never saw anything else than the sad dregs of a fruit salad.

Small, boutique-like, mid-market hotel managed by the University of Edinburgh, and located on the Pollock Halls of Residence site, southwards of the Old Town, next to Arthur's Seat and the Royal Commonwealth Pool aquatics complex. This is a relatively quiet area about 30 min on foot from the centre of the city (Princes Street) although that can be considerably shortened by making use of Edinburgh's excellent public transport buses . Good value for money at the price I paid (although the room was indeed tiny). The full Scottish breakfast was excellent.

Hard to figure out exactly where it is from the map / instructions - my advice is to follow google maps !

We picked this superb hotel for its location under Arthur's Seat around Hollyrood Park. It is in the university complex but a quiet, peaceful location with a gate so feels safe. On arrival at reception, I realised I'd left my handbag in the taxi! Staff instantly rang my phone to alert the driver & rang the two black city taxi companies & he had returned with my bag in 5 minutes! All staff were polite, friendly & helpful & it was well staffed. Nothing was too much trouble & they would always ring a taxi for you which arrived in minutes or let us know about bus no.30 & trams & attractions. Breakfast fab, the evening menu looked very good but we ate out due to our itinerary. Our room was luxury! All carpets were either freshly cleaned or new. Lovely big room & bathroom. A bit hot the first night until I realised you could turn the radiators right down & open windows! Great shower, fab coffee machine which we struggled to work but they sent someone up within minutes to show us & gave us extra pods & milk. Slept like a log! Bed huge with Soft pillows. We wil be back!

Nothing not to like!

Room was very comfortable and clean. I appreciate the possibility to make a cup of tea of coffee. Breakfasts were really great with a lot of options including Scottish breakfast. The location was relatively convenient although not the city centre (bus stop, park, and stores nearby).

There is actually nothing where I could say that I didn't like it. Having a fridge/minibar in the room would be nice. Otherwise, nothing was really missing or bad in particular... walking for/from city centre is still possible although not very close.
