Friendly staff and accommodating to requests, also organised early morning check in. Fresh apples 🍎 available for guests was a nice touch (excellent tasting too)

Our bed was just ok , we slept ok but it’s in need of replacement, I notified the staff of this. This is nothing unusual in high traffic hotels. We stayed here last year and our bed was great.

The location is great. The staff were very friendly. The breakfast was lovely. The rooms are small but fine for our requirements and are good value for money.

Our Television did not work and despite telling the reception team, it was not fixed during our stay. We did get a complimentary breakfast which was a nice gesture.

The hotel is beautiful and in a perfect location.

The queues at the reception desk at peak times were disorderly and unorganised, two people checking people in and out whilst two other members of staff stood watching. Staff were minimally polite, water was never replenished in the room and we were charged when we asked for another small plastic bottle water on the second day of our stay. The Club Lounge was like a GP waiting room. Windowless and not worth it. The young girl behind the bar barely spoke any English and clearly had no idea how to make the most basic drinks but was left alone to struggle. The arrival was impressive but it felt like once they had you, there was no need to keep impressing you or caring for you as a resident. The windows didn't lock.

Fantastic location close to Notting Hill, Hyde Park, underground stations, many restaurants and so on. The room was tiny but comfortable and enough to have a good night's sleep at the end of a long day, although not necessarily comfortable to spend a lot of time in it. Even though the room was quite small, it was still alright if you don't have oversized luggage. The breakfast was of medium quality but the staff made up for the lack of quality and variety, especially the two Romanian sisters who were both lovely. The common areas were stunning and screamed old luxury.

The room was quite run down and was desperately asking for some renovations. The renovations that were attempted in the past must have been given to the cheapest contractor they could find as even an amateur would do a better job. On the plus side, things seemed clean. Showering was an adventure as half of the shower water came out as there was barely any protection, resulting in a mini flooding every morning when taking a shower. I didn't hear much noise from neighbours or from the hallway, but the window facing outside was paper thin and you could hear every car going by, even though the room is on the 8th floor.

The location is wonderful close proximity to Kensington gardens and tube stations. The great room is wonderful to sit and relax after a long day exploring London.

I would have loved to give this hotel 5 stars, except they advertised a bar but the bartender wasn't knowledgeable at all and they didn't provide her even basic drink garnishments like olives. The drink pricing was inconsistent, their list of featured cocktails for $11.50 included a Long Island iced tea but a basic martini they were going to charge $28+ Also I believe there was a restaurant but I didn't see any menu or times listed in the lobby. Also inconsistent ambiance. Music playing in the lobby but not in the great room and on one evening the music was some sort of techno pop which really doesn't suit the vibe of the hotel.

Excellent location, close to subway and shops, but very quiet. Elegant, old-world mansion-like lobby and dining area, little lounge where coffee machine and cookies were always available. First day gift of fresh fruit, chocolates, and bottle of wine! Fruit gift continued for a couple of days.

First night room was on lowest level, was very dark, with blocked window. We asked for a change and were given a much nicer room the next day. We found the mattress too hard, and the comforter was very lumpy. The TV reception was not good. We asked to have it adjusted, but didn’t notice any change.

I booked this hotel because I saw it was top-rated for solo travelers, and close to the tube. I can’t recommend it enough especially if you’re a woman traveling alone. The Grand Royale always felt extremely safe, clean, and hospitable. The young men that worked as bellhops/assistant were so attentive and helpful. I was so thankful that they actually brought my bags to my room, as I had arrived early and left them in luggage storage. Breakfast was okay. The entry, lobby, and breakfast room are gorgeous! The rooms are a bit small if you’re used to more of the American sized hotel room, but it felt cozy and I was only there to sleep and shower. Also, hotel rooms in Europe tend to be smaller. I booked the twin single and ended up on the 8th floor with an AMAZING view of London, all for a very reasonable fee. There are 2 tube stations nearby (Queensway and Bayswater). They can get you anywhere you need to go and they’re seriously a 2-3 min walk away.

There isn’t a shower curtain and just a piece of small glass towards the front of the shower, but my last hotel in London was like that, too. I chalk it up to a cultural difference. However, when you shower, it’s easy to get water all of the floor if you aren’t careful. The shower heads are moveable, so if you adjust yours by making it face the corner, you won’t have to worry about water getting all over the floor.

The breakfast and the breakfast staff were excellent, the room was spotless and a credit to the staff who work for the hotel, the bar staff were excellent and the reception staff were very friendly. The room was comfortable but the bathroom was tiny and could have been set out better for the small space. Having stayed here before I had requested the same room or similar but the room we got was a smaller room for the same price. That said it didn't taint our stay. We love this hotel.

The bathroom could have been laid out better for such a small space. A sliding door maybe and just a plinth for the sink rather than a table would be more practical. Had we been larger people we would not have got into the room.

The vibe of the hotel is wonderful. It’s an old property, but you have the Victorian charm on the first and second floors that feels like a private home. It was always clean, water with fruit or cucumber was always available and regularly refilled, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is also great with the underground about 3 mins away by foot and a Starbucks maybe a 5 min walk from the hotel. Across the street is Hyde Park and it was wonderful to walk through the park on warm evenings.

The beds were firm. Really firm. That’s a personal preference, but it can affect sleep. That said - I was so busy every day that I still woke up refreshed since I was so tired by the time I went to bed. I also noticed that the cold water didn’t work. We had room temperature water and hot water. The room temperature water was still rather warm.
