The staff here were exceptional - Abi, who helped me with check-in and at different points of my stay, was friendly, thoughtful, and a warm presence on a whole. She noticed me entering with a large suitcase and took the iniative to reassign me a room on the ground floor instead of the 3rd floor. The other staff I met through my stay were equally hospitable. They assisted me with engaging a laundry service the hotel is partnered with, which worked as an excellent substitute given the aren't in-house laundry facilities here. The room was very clean and comfortable. I'm very grateful that they offered a standing fan in the summer heat, which made the room comfortable and pleasant in the summer heat despite having no AC and the windows locked (for safety on the ground floor, I presume). Location was fantastic -- stone-throw from Kings Cross station yet not noisy or rowdy. I will recommend The California and return in future visits!

Room is relatively small (not surprising by London standards) -- comfortable enough for a solo traveller.

I liked that there was a bar, terrace, and nice lounge area. The pre-paid breakfast was outstanding, but way too much food. The location was very close to St. Pancras and King's Cross rail/tube stations. I easily walked from St. Pancras with luggage to the hotel. The Hotel was very clean.

The hotel had no lift, only stairs and lots of them. This is not a hotel for persons who have issues going up and down lots of stairs. The floors were uneven in spots and a tripping hazard. There was no heat even though there were radiators. Maybe it was too early in the season for them to work. The ensuite bathroom was relatively large, but it had the type of shower where the water went all over the entire floor of the bathroom. The room was a bit noisy and it seemed like I could hear frequent tube rumbling, even though the tube was a few blocks away (maybe it was road traffic I was hearing, not sure).

The location was ideal for us - returning from Paris on the Eurostar. The hotel is quite literally minutes from the station. We also liked the very friendly welcome we received and the gracious hospitality offered by one of the owners who escorted us to an affiliated restuaruant and arranged for a free bottle of wine. The person on reception said our room was a bit quirky and that was a fair assessment, The room was small and the bed - on a raised platrom dominated the room, the shower was not the best and getting in and out via a rather high sided tub was a challenge - BUT we had a really nice stay, could make ourselves a cup of tea, opened the big window fully for fresh air. We had a good night and a very adequate breakfast for a very low cost. We would stay there again. It was great.

I think I included that above. The room had a big window that opened right up - great for fresh air (something not always in abundance in hotels), but it was a litte noisey. But that goes with the location,

The most comfortable bed and pillow I've ever had in a hotel. Easy journey from Brighton (1 direct train) and perfectly located to get to and from Wembley for the Oasis gig. Hotel is very clean, water pressure is great and the staff were super nice.

Our electrical appliances were a bit dodgy. The kettle wouldn't turn off and just kept boiling. I managed to cover my arm with a towel so I didn't get scalded and turned it off at the wall. Also the hairdryer went bright red and smoke came out. We informed reception and they were very apologetic and said they'd sort it out after we left. It didn't spoil our stay though, things break, it happens.

ALL the staff were really friendly and helpful and really couldn't do enough to make the stay comfortable and friendly. The location is perfect, especially when having to come back late due to a concert. It's less than a five minute walk to King's Cross and 9 minutes from euston. The terrace is a nice little area to sit out on..I've seen other comments about noise. I slept with the window open and didn't find in particulary noise considering your in the capital. I would hesitate to stay here again.

I'd make the beds bigger and forgo the bedside tables. The beds are comfortable but on the smaller side of a double.

Very close to st. Pancras Station and Kings cross. Room was big enough for 1 person and had all the facilities.

The roadwork that's been going on opposite the road. But that's not the hotels fault. The room was right next to the door that opened to the hallway that leaded to the rooms. That was quite noisy.

Great place. Easy to find. Bed and pillows were so comfortable. The staff was really nice and helpful. Absolutely recommend! Will come back :)

Our room was on the last floor with no elevator and had a bathtub rather than a shower. For personal health reasons, it would have been better otherwise. I would have asked for preferences sooner if only I'd known the facility. Of course, I'm not complaining but it would have been nice to have this mentioned somewhere while booking :)

Although it is a smaller hotel, the staff and maintenance are excellent. It is conveniently located near King's Cross Station, providing direct access to both central London and Greater London. The bathroom was clean, though as a Dutch person standing at 1.83m, I found the shower a bit too small for comfort. I'm not sure if this applies to all rooms. However, this was not a reason for me to rate the room lower. The bed was very comfortable, making it a great place to return to after a long day of exploring and traveling in London. And since everything was so close by, no journey ever felt too long.

Very well located for our needs, we were going on the Eurostar the next morning so being only a 3 non walk to st pancras station was perfect. We had a basement room which was very clean and due to it being really hot in London 30 degrees the room was really cool. The staff were very friendly, yes you can hear the underground trains running through the night but they were not loud enough where it would keep you awake. Overall our stay was very pleasant and would stay there again if using the Eurostar.

Cant say there was anything I didn't like if I had to be really picky the room was on the slightly smaller side but we wanted somewhere with an ensuite and in London you are either paying somewhere in the region of £160+ per night and the fact our room was just for a stop over those prices are a little expensive.

Fantastic location for St Pancreas station. We were on the lower floor which was a pleasant surprise, even though the street is above you. The room was spotless and quiet which was ideal as we had an early start next day. Bathroom was clean and adequate for what we needed. Staff were friendly and attentive on check in and out. Beds were comfy.

Steps from the street to the hotel were high (may be an issue for those with walking difficulties) Stairs to the lower ground floor were tricky to navigate even with just a backpack, may be an issue if you had larger luggage.
