Great location and a very welcoming hotel. A large room with everything needed for our 2 day stay. Handy for York and the Solar bike trail which we rode into York. ( start at Ricall)

The A19 is a very busy and fast road and runs alongside the hotel. However our room was at the side and the road noise wasn't intrusive. The Fat Abbott pub got rave reviews but was disappointing made worse by Mr Grumpy the manager. Food was OK ish but far better value and a happier atmosphere is to be found at the Tai restaurant just a short walk away.

Breakfast was perfect, good hot dishes and good quality, bacon, sausage, fried and scrambled eggs, beans, mushrooms , toast etc. Also a selection of fruit, cereals, yogurt, pastries. The location is perfect, a nice suburban village within a 30 minute bus ride from York. Ample car parking spaces. There is a regular bus service from the main road just outside the hotel. £3 each way. The spa is very good, adults only, which for me was a bonus. There is a nice large pool, large jacuzzi, steam room and sauna as well as a gym. I also treated myself to a treatment in the spa, which was lovely, staff very attentitive.

Please note that not all the rooms are in the main hotel, my room was above the adjacent pub, which I was unaware of when booking. I was initially a bit disappointed about this but it turned out fine. Luckily it's not a noisy pub. The Spa was also nearer to the pub, however, I had to walk to the main hotel for breakfast. WiFi did not reach my room, I had to take my work to the pub for a signal. It would have been good to know this in advance.

My room, which was part of the cottage, was unexpectedly spacious, having a sitting area with a sofa, table, and French doors which opened out onto a courtyard. The bed was very comfy, there was plenty of drawer and wardrobe space and the separate bathroom was also large and light. The gardens were beautiful and the location is excellent for a peaceful break. Included in the price was an excellent buffet breakfast; lots of variety and great value for money. I had dinner at The Fat Abbot which was also excellent and reasonably priced; the staff were all friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble.

Although the arched windows in the bathroom were lovely, I felt a little exposed when the lights were on, as my ground level room was right next to the car park and people were walking past from the pub. I would have prefered blinds or curtains rather than just an opaque film, but it didn't spoil my stay.

Large original Personnage to local St Helens Church in Escrigg. converted into a hotel in beautifully landscaped grounds. Hotel a short distance from a Designer outlet from where you can catch a Park and Ride bus into York. Or you can catch a local Selby to York bus running every 15 minutes just outside the front gateway. Excellent Spa facilities and a local Pub / restaurant short walk from hotel entrance.

The only complaint I have is that the Room walls had a very dark wallpaper, making it difficult to read with use of bedside/table lights only. A central brighter ceiling light would have been good.

Everything we needed was on site, it was situated in a lovely village on a regular bus route. Staff were lovely and accommodating.

It’s a bit dated but nevertheless very clean and tidy. The spa facilities were a short outside walk from our room, okay in the summer but I would imagine it would be a little cold to come from the pool in the winter. Not impressed with the charge for towels for the spa facilities. We used the room towels which did mean they were wet if we showered back at the room. However, we could have them changed daily if required which would counteract having to pay for spa towels. No staff on the bar, not very organised when it came to bar service as they were manning reception and bar.

Breakfast was excellent. The £25 per person contribution towards dinner in the Fat Abbot was welcomed. The spa was well equiped as was the gym. We had a triple room but with only two users the room was a good size. The ability to park the car and not use it till we left was welcome thanks to the excellent bus service just outside the hotel. Every 15 mins M-S and every 30mins on a Sunday. We went over a race weekend and decided to go into York and then travel to Beverley on the Saturday were it was less crowded, pleanty to do and see there incluidng a Saturday Market and the Minster.

Just a suggestion. As a holiday / weekend break travellor I would have welcomed a safe for hire to store the valuables rather than taking on my person everytime I went out. You nearly always have this hotel room facility when abroad but seldom in this country.

The room was pleasant with very comfortable beds. The spa and the pool facilities were excellent. Breakfast was good with plenty of choices provided from the buffet. The staff were very pleasant and friendly throughout the hotel.

My complaints were that there was no coat hook behind the bathroom door on which to hang a dressing gown, no bath or shower product provided, no fridge or safe and there were no power sockets next to the beds although the information provided by the hotel stated that these would be available.

From the moment we arrived, the hotel made a lasting impression. The grand, beautifully restored entrance leads you through a sweeping, immaculately maintained landscape—truly a serene and luxurious welcome. The property itself is expansive and impressive, with a sense of history around every corner. Some guests have commented that the décor feels “dated,” but it’s important to remember this is an 1840s building. The owners have done an admirable job preserving its original character and theme, from the antique furnishings to the period-appropriate color palette. If you’re seeking a sleek, ultra-modern look, this may not be the stay for you—but for those who appreciate authenticity and a touch of heritage, it’s part of the hotel’s undeniable charm. The staff were warm and attentive, ensuring our comfort throughout a two-night stay. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean, with all the modern amenities you need discreetly integrated so as not to disrupt the historic ambiance. Breakfast in the elegant dining room offered a delicious selection of local specialties, and the hotel’s on-site bar is the perfect place to unwind in the evening. Overall, this hotel perfectly balances its 19th-century roots with today’s comforts. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable, character-filled retreat—especially history enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates staying somewhere with a genuine story to tell.

No plugs at the side of the bed if I have to say anything.

The Parsonage was a beautiful old building, welcoming entrance hall, tastefully decorated and modernised. We stopped in room 5, in the original part of the Hotel. The room was a good size, with a comfortable bed, smart TV, biscuits, tea, coffee and Elmis hair & body wash. Breakfast was self service, full english and/or continental. It was a good breakfast. Spa and pool facilities were just enough and spa staff were very friendly. We spent a lovely few hours in there. I would definitely stop in the hotel again. I would highly recommend it. Great location, beautiful building and surroundings, spa & pool worth a visit. A comfy bed and a good breakfast!

The room was very hot, luckily we could open the windows. Being just off reception meant that we could hear other guests in the lounge area and woke up at times due to noise. Shower was adequate but not overly powerful. We also ate at the Fat Abbott. Food was fine but I wouldn’t eat there again, it was slightly disappointing. Lacked in atmosphere, young inexperienced staff. However, food was reasonably priced, just a typical pub rather than gastro-pub - similar to a beef eater.

A comfortable and charming hotel located a few miles outside York. There is plenty of parking available at the hotel, plus a bus stop right outside the drive entrance where you can catch a bus into York City Centre. There is also a Designer Outlet and a Park and Ride facility not too far away. We found the hotel staff to be friendly and welcoming, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them if it made your stay better. The choice at breakfast was excellent. We would certainly stay here again next time we come to York

The reviews of The Fat Abbott gastro pub next door were not exactly complimentary so we didn't eat here sadly. It would have been great to have a good quality food establishment nearby.
