Nice, comfortable room which was clean and had everything we needed. The dining room was a bit 'clinical' and quiet so we ate meals in the bar which was a little livelier. The hotel had a lot of character and history which was very interesting.

As 70 year olds, we found going up and down two flights of stairs a bit of a chore. There was no lift. When I booked, I thought the price was very reasonable. However, we were then charged extra for breakfast (which I presumed was included) and also charged £10 per night for our vehicle in the car park. This bumped up our costs quite significantly and I don't feel this was made clear to us when we booked the hotel on Booking.com.

The helpfulness and politeness of all the staff. The bar and dining facilities. It's quietness and comfort.

Tiny, narrow twin beds. Lovely choice for breakfast but the cooked breakfast was disappointing with over-cooked bacon, value beans, a half-slice of black pudding, half a tomato and stewed mushrooms. All this served on a plate which was dangerously hot and continued to cook what looked like a perfectly prepared poached egg.

We stayed bed and breakfast. Breakfast was plentiful. We preferred the cook to order on Sunday rather than buffet breakfast but that is a preference not a complaint. Staff were exceptional and polite. Room and bathroom was spotless. Although situated about 1.5 miles out of town buses were regular and more or less outside the hotel.

The the bed, although comfortable seemed to veer towards the middle - not sure why! We did not like the £15 per 24 hr charge for parking your car - this we feel should be free to residents.

All the staff were polite, friendly & chatty and very helpful. It was lovely to see how they worked together in a very pleasant, friendly and cohesive manner. They certainly appear to enjoy working there as we did staying there. Our room #29 was warm, inviting, quiet & the mattress was wonderful. I had the best two nights sleep. Even though the room is positioned near the stairs, it was quiet. We only once heard one group of people going off to their rooms for about a minute and then silence. We turn in about 10pm. The shower in the bath is excellent. Very powerful and the temperature can be easily adjusted. The on site parking is protected by a barrier & only £15/ 24hrs which is very reasonable compared to other hotels in the city. We already knew that we would have to pay and the staff were very pleasant with telling us when we arrived. It may not be a swanky Hotel but it certainly has its charm and history & most importantly it's warm and comfortable with a well stocked bar, very much needed after a long day in York. As it said on the sign as we entered it's a bit old-fashioned which is great. It might not be to everyone's taste, but for us it was just wonderful. It was far enough away from the hustle and bustle and loudness of the City for us to enjoy each evening and each waking day. The breakfast has a great selection both for vegetarian and meat eating individuals. And what was nice is, if you want poached eggs you just have to ask & they accommodate. The grounds were lovely and picturesque. They have outdoor seating in the courtyards. We will definitely be back again.

We liked the fact that our room was separated from the main building. Our room was very nice, spacious, and clean, and felt more like an individual apartment. Without a kitchen, it was lovely; the surrounding gardens were beautiful. The staff were so friendly and kind and took the time to have a conversation with us. Sam in particular went above and beyond. The food was really nice, with plenty of choice at breakfast, but it was very busy. Evening meals were also very tasty. The finishing touches in the dining room are lovely, e.g., napkins shaped like swans. My only concern was that the portions were large, and I felt terrible that I never managed to eat half of it. We will definitely not hesitate to book again.

A beautiful hotel with stunning communal spaces and beautiful garden areas. The barman was polite, friendly and helpful on our first evening. The shower was lovely and strong.

We were slightly surprised that we weren’t warned that the price of breakfast goes up if not booked the day before, despite asking about it the day before! We were also not told of the cheaper option of a continental breakfast which is all I needed. This is an old building which means there were no lifts or air conditioning (however there was fan in the room which was much appreciated as it was a very hot evening). The parking was a bit pricey!

Honestly one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. The attention to detail is incredible and definitely what makes this hotel stand out!! The actual ground of this hotel are spectacular, gardens are phenomenal. Grapes, pear trees all very well looked after and you can just see the years of hard work. Staff are very professional and extremely friendly. Our room looked out into a small court yard filled with plants and life. Room was immaculate. Beds sooooo comfortable. Honestly one of the best to date what a little gem!! 100% coming back. Thank you for our stay.

Breakfast could do with some work possibly just a touch dry.

Beautiful hotel in a lovely location. We only stayed one night so didn't make the most of all the facilities. Would loved to have sat in the beautiful gardens with afternoon tea, or a cocktail! Staff very nice, breakfast room had a lovely ambience and plenty to choose from at the buffet, as well as ordering a full English. Bedroom was very comfortable, huge double bed. We were at the front, so near the road but very little noise. Fulford is a lovely village, with local pubs, although we chose to walk into the city for dinner. Yes, we paid £15 for parking for 24 hours, no problem parking, don't know why some reviews said it was difficult. I suppose it depends on how big your car is. Every effort is made to fulfill guests' needs: iron, ironing board, fan in wardrobe. The hotel has a lot of charm and character.

I can't think of anything to fault it.

**Overall a pleasant stay.** The room was nice, though a little outdated — it could use a refresh, but I understand they may be preserving the hotel’s classic style. The location is convenient, though the on-site EV chargers are quite slow (7kW), so I’d recommend using a faster one nearby if needed. Breakfast was enjoyable, but the area they served food felt a bit cramped, especially with the traffic light system in place during busy times.

Rooms need a refresh especially in the bathrooms. I think charging £15 for parking for guests is a money making machine for the hotel. No A/C in the room instead given a broken fan in the cupboard full of dust. Need to give more amenities in the room as given one tiny soap, shampoo and body wash wasn't enough for a 2 day stay.
