We booked The Plough as a last minute stay for a family wedding, I’m so pleased we did. We arrived earlier than check in time, but were quite happy to have a drink from the bar beforehand, but the barman told us he’d just been told the rooms were ready so we could check in an hour earlier. We were taken to our room and were blown away! When the lady opened the door we both “wowed”! The room was huge and beautifully decorated giving it a warm, luxurious and sumptuous feel to it. And both the bedroom and en-suite were huge rooms. The following morning, at breakfast, the guy was warm and friendly, exceptionally obliging and served us very quickly. The two full breakfasts were delicious, hot and served. Once we finished eating we weren’t rush out, and could sit and enjoy our drinks at a leisurely pace. We’ll certainly be looking for a viable excuse to visit again.

Just a little pet hate, the toilet paper is individual sheets in a dispenser, and I personally prefer a roll. But it wouldn’t deter me from revisiting or highly recommending!

There were various options for breakfast including different cooked options. The Full English included black pudding which is unusual these day. However, the bacon was hard probably due to being pre-cooked and warmed up or kept warm too long thus drying it out. The Restaurant food had an extensive menu with additional specials. All meals well cooked and flavourful. The room was large enough with antique furniture. The bed was a French style "Sleigh" bed which meant is was of standard size and not a King sized bed which in a superior room you would expect. However, the mattress was very comfortable. As the room overlooked the main road from Fulford into York the window was secondary glazed cutting out most of the traffic noise, but this meant that the window could not be opened making the room very warm A portable air conditioning/cooler unit was in the room but too noisy to run at night if you wanted to sleep! The facilities in the room were good although the shower unit had a sliding door which mad it a bit of a squeeze for me to get in. Anyone with a larger stomach than I have would not be able to get in to shower. The room was clean although I did notice quite a bit of dust on top of the bathroom door frame. The room was serviced every day of our stay. It is a short car drive or bus ride into York or to the York Designer Outlet and to other towns nearby like Knaresborough Harrogate or Selby. The staff were fantastic and friendly.

There was not a lot to dislike.

The pub was lovely, was a bit difficult to find as they changed the paint on the outside, no longer white. I called the pub and was told it had changed and were at the right place. The staff were very helpful and friendly, as it was hot they provided a fan which needed attention, but Sue fixed it in a jiffy and it worked very well. Bar and restaurant was good , all round it was a pleasant stay . Good bathroom and shower. Comfortable beds too.

The square toilet paper sheets. Was like a public toilet. I think it would be better if proper toilet roll was provided.

The location.Walking distance to centre of York although we took the bus back. Room serviced during our 2 night stay. Good linen & comfy bed. Friendly staff Breakfast We ate in the pub both evenings , busy for food . Plentiful portions , my Sea Bass was over cooked however, said pan fried on the menu but it had a very thin batter on it which was dry . Husband had Pie , then Chicken in Stilton sauce which was good . Would stay again if in the area.

Although quality furnishings the decor in the accommodation entrance & the en suite in our bedroom need attention. Ceiling in en-suite peeling , this was pointed out to us on arrival that it was being attended to ,not sure when as previous guests had commented on this awhile ago. Towel rail not hot. Day to day maintenance , hook missing on door & rusty rack . The bedroom was clean though.

Lovely property, plenty of history, well spaced carpark was a bonus. Comfortable bedroom with a lovely bathroom with powerful shower easy to turn on with lots of hot water. Impressed with all the teabags biscuits water and toiletries topped up on a daily basis. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the pub and restaurant was very busy in the evenings, we booked a table every night. Our food was fabulous, can recommend the prawn linguine, spaghetti bolognaise and the macaroni I cheese bake ,a good varied menu… all delicious. Breakfast was just as good, lots of variety.

Bedroom was very dark. Wobbly wardrobe very difficult to close not enough space between bed and wardrobe with hangers that didn’t fit. Homemade sweet potato chips not keen at all.

The atmosphere, staff, location and the wonderful character of the place. very beautiful clean and charming. Met all our requirements for an amazing break away. Perfect for going into York.

The bedroom was very hot, even though it had 2 fans. Also not sure if there was a different chef each morning as the quality of the breakfast changed. The Tuesday and Thursday were excellent, but the Friday the bacon hard and beans just poured over everything. Wednesday we had a tray left as we were leaving early which was great.

Easily accessible, good sized car park. Very welcoming friendly staff, nothing too much trouble.Excellent amenities, ample supplies for tea/coffee. Absolutely stunning decor, beautiful little tweaks here and there that make you want to look around more.. Room was perfect (again decorated beautifully), good in size with both a fan or extra oil heater available for use if needed.. Bed was very comfortable. Good size shower with perfect temperature hot water and it was powerful to boot. I enjoyed having the option of different heads in the shower (I’m short & not keen on an overhead) with the bonus of the shampoo/ body wash & soap being plentiful & having a calming and delicate fragrance. Very tasty, generous sized portions of food. The steak/ale pie was melt in the mouth delicious! We took a long walk around the area, lots of green spaces and interesting buildings to see.. Breakfast was lovely, we were greeted warmly, our options explained and happy to say the full English was ample with exceedingly tasty, locally supplied meats and eggs. An absolutely wonderful stay.. thanks ☺️

Nothing, was a really comfortable and enjoyable stay.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The rooms were very clean. Although it was a busy pub there was no noise impact in the rooms which were above and to the side. The decor of the rooms was in keeping with 18th century period which was lovely but the bathrooms were beautifully modernised with excellent walk in showers. Overall a very enjoyable stay. Would definitely return

The pub was really popular and as the bar got busy during the evening having a few spaces in the car park for overnight guests only would have been helpful. Perhaps keeping a small section of the car park reserved for residential guests

The location is great for visiting York, a short bus ride or a few minutes in the car, it is walkable in about 30 minutes or so. Parking is free and easy. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Lovely tea tray. On a busy road but quiet at night, windows were double insulated. Only one tiny flaw was ceiling paint peeling in bathroom due to fan not working, didn’t really affect our stay but didn’t look good or clear condensation from showering . Would definitely return , good value.

Just a half hour walk into York centre. The staff were friendly, informative and polite. We had lunch and a full breakfast the following day and the food was very tasty and of a decent size portion. The room was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. My husband found the bed too firm for him, but still slept well. I found it very comfortable. We'd definitely stay again.

The toilet tissue in our en suite was a little on the thin, scratchy side.
