The lobby and the hallways to the rooms are absolutely gorgeous!! Just pulling up you feel special. Thomasene (the front desk supervisor) and Amere at check in were absolutely PHENOMENAL!! So welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. They were so nice andmade me fell comfortable and went out of there way to make sure my stay was nice. We were upgraded to a suite which I loved.

I would have given this hotel 10 stars, but it's a little on the older side. It's a little older hotel, but very upscale and clean.

This hotel is gorgeous! As soon as you walk in the front door, you are hit with the opulence and beauty of the hotel's grand foyer. There are period details everywhere, including the chandeliers, the vintage mailbox by the elevators, the restored speakeasy in the basement, and the historical photo display just off the foyer. I reserved a Deluxe King Room, and the front desk accidentally gave us a Deluxe Queen Room originally. That room was very small, but once we got the keys to the correct room, we found it to be a great size (and beautifully appointed). I appreciated the space to move around, the full size mirror by the closet, the magnified mirror in the bathroom, the safe, and the mini fridge. The hotel is in a fantastic location. From here, we were able to walk to the inclines, PNC Park, the Strip District, and the Andy Warhol Museum. It felt safe, even late at night. I also appreciated the personalized attention. We had an issue with our room that required maintenance to be called, and the hotel's concierge texted me later that day to make sure everything had been taken care of.

There were a few things in slight disrepair in our room, which is not completely surprising given the hotel's age. First, our toilet had trouble flushing. Also, several of the outlet's did not work properly (the outlets were so loose that cords would not stay plugged in and immediately fell out if someone wasn't holding them in). Also, only one side of our king bed had a bedside table. The other side had no table and the closest outlet was at the foot of the bed - not ideal for plugging in a phone to use as an alarm clock.

It was a beautiful building, and everyone I met was friendly. The room was comfortable and spacious with good AC, the bathroom was pleasant, and the bed was comfortable. There were power sockets in the desk, which was nice, but at this level of hotel I would expect USB charging sockets by the bed. It felt very safe. Location was excellent: handy for a baseball game, or for visiting the Heinz museum. I would stay here again.

Parking was a little awkward, but it wasn’t very difficult or expensive to use the parking unaffiliated with the hotel, just across the street. Pay online or on the machines just before leaving. The steps to get from the street to reception are inconvenient with luggage or if you had mobility issues. Everything was very locked down with your keycard, which wasn’t explained when I checked in. I was confused for ages in the lift/elevator before another guest explained that I needed to use my key card before I could select my floor. I wouldn’t have checked out as early if I had realised that I would need my keycard to use the bathrooms near reception.

Fitness center was nice and staff were extremely helpful

After checking out of my room, I needed to use the bathroom in the lobby and after dragging my suitcase down the stairs I found the bathroom door was locked. It’s ridiculous that you have locked out hotel guests who have already checked out. You need a better system. Also the elevators were hard to use because it would skip floors I was trying to get to. When I was trying to leave the hotel to catch the airport flyer I could not get to the lobby floor even though I had selected the lobby button and it was lit

Staff in the gift shop were unpleasant. An item was not marked and I asked the cost and the employee said “I have no idea”. Never looked them up. Valet were not helpful upon arrival. It was very busy, which is fine. When I asked for assistance from valet about how to get help with valet the worker said “we have no room. You can’t park in the street”. I said I was aware and wanted to know where to go. He said “around the block” but not kindly, more matter of fact - like I should know. Not helpful.

See above. I did like our room. It was great! Size and comfort were on point.

The building itself, the location is optimal, the room was clean and spacious overlooking a beautiful historical building, the staff is kind and attentive, the dining/breakfast room is marvellous.

No room service available except for breakfast (limited and overpriced), phone tap payment (Google Wallet/Apple Pay) was not accepted anywhere including at the cafe, the speakeasy downstairs closes at midnight and is unavailable many days a week so we did not manage to go.

Location was perfect for attending a concert at PPG Arena. Walk was easy and safe. Hotel lobby and restaurant are beautiful. Check-in was smooth and the staff friendly. We ate dinner in the Tap Room. Food was delicious, service was great. Breakfast in the Terrace room was fantastic.

Hallways on the guest floors are looking a little worn and tired. Carpet is loose and bunching up. Trim, baseboard and doors need attention to detail. They are badly scuffed, dirty and and look a little worse for wear. At the price point we paid, $345/night, more overall attention to the highly traveled areas is a must.

Localization is great, its nice old historical building with many beautiful areas around, food in restaurant and breakfast was really good, stuff was helpful and nice

its outdated, rooms are not big, bathroom was pretty small in my opinion, even though its nice design it looks a bit dirty - you can see nobody clean curtains, walls for long time, in my opinion its bit overpriced for the things you are getting

Location was convenient, we were able to walk everywhere. The building is cool and the staff at the reception really nice. Note: parking at Mellon garage during the weekend in 8 dollar per day and it is in front of the hotel

Service did not entirely meet my expectation. We were given some water the first night, than not for the second; we were left with one cup for the coffee for the second day. Towels were changed althought not asked for and a pledge of sustainability. I understand this may have been complementary for the first night. However I would expect more attention to this kind of things from a 4 star hotel

Both my husband and I appreciate the atmosphere of the William Penn Hotel. Architecture, decorating, rooms… They are all just very awesome!

For the most part, we had a great stay, but two things I would mention: one is that we had trouble with the shower and we had no shampoo, conditioner, or shower gel in our room. We did call the front desk and they got some for us rather quickly. Regarding the breakfast, I felt it was quite pricey, especially for someone like me who does not eat a breakfast buffet.
