Yes, the rooms are small but for a solo traveller it was perfect. Clean and compact, super comfy bed (I love a soft bed). Could log into my Netflix before bed and grab a tea and make a little snack in the kitchenette. There’s no gym but I took advantage of 5 yoga and reformer classes for $50 at Good Vibes. A 15 minute stroll- great way to start the morning. Some lovely delis in the local area too- Smith and Deli was a firm favourite. To run up and around the Tan track door to door was 8km for those who like to keep active whilst away. Didn’t use it, but F45 is also walking distance so the lack of gym definitely is’t an issue. Collingwood is out of the free tram zone so you will need to get a card. Staff are friendly and helpful and I enjoyed having a cup of tea and a chat when passing through.

We stayed at the lyf Collingwood hotel for a week in March 2025. It’s in a great location for Smith St and tram access to the city. A new concept for us where we had open spaces and shared kitchen facilities as well as a small kitchen area and fridge close to the room. Friendly and helpful staff throughout the week. If you download the Discover ASR app then you can have one lovely coffee each day. A farmwall of herbs and sustainably approach in a pleasant environment, and good WiFi. Our room was small, like the inside of a shipping container with a window at one end. Nice big TV at the end of the bed, good plugs and usb access.

Smallish room, frosted glass bathroom within in so you need to know your roommate pretty well. One drawer and not much storage space so you’re living out the suitcase.

This stay exceeded my expectations in every way. The property felt fresh and modern, and everything was clean from the moment I arrived. The room was thoughtfully designed, with a comfortable bed, great lighting, and everything I needed for a relaxing and hassle-free stay. The location was absolutely perfect. I loved being close to all the cafes, restaurants, and public transport. It made exploring the area so easy, and I always felt safe walking around. The overall vibe of the place was welcoming and well-curated, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient, clean, and stylish place to stay in Melbourne.

The only issue was that the air conditioner/heater was a bit loud. I ended up using earplugs if I wanted the room to be warm while sleeping. That said, it absolutely wasn’t a deal breaker, just something to be aware of.

This accommodation is the best in its class in the Inner North. It's perfect for couples wishing to explore/dine/drink in Collingwood and Fitzroy (particularly Gertrude and Smith Streets) and is only a few stops from the city on the 86 tram. My partner and I visit regularly and think this will be our new regular in Melbourne. The room was comfy, modern and clean and extremely well-lit with natural light (proper curtains to sleep in)

Two gripes. The bathroom, while modern and clean. does not include a door/curtain for the shower. It was impossible to prevent water spilling into the rest of the bathroom when showering. However, nothing a towel can't fix, and reception offer new towels at any time. Secondly, while there is a common area, most rooms do not have a fridge. Not essential, noting there is a communal kitchen area, but sometimes convenient and there is space.

Such a cool space, reminds me of the modern, compact hotels in the USA that has all the features needed for a short or long stay. Definitely the kind of vibe young people or workers want for a hotel. Secure and reserved parking which has an elevator going straight to the rooms. A great space in the room with a TV. Kitchens and kitchenettes accessible any time of day (filtered water is such a bonus!). Amazing location, we will stay in Collingwood/Fitzroy area from now on over the CBD.

I could only identify one thing and that would be brighter/white lighting in the rooms for getting ready in the mirror as the yellow lighting can make it hard to see, other than that I cant fault it.

Modern looking hotel, spacious reception with large video wall/tv. Free coffee/tea for members every day (free registration). Friendly staff. Good location, close to public transport, grocery shops, restaurants/bars. Comfortable bed.

A strange smell in the room, as if moisture had seeped into the room. After a short stay in the room, you get used to the smell, or you don't notice it anymore, but every time you return to the room, it is still present. Also, there were hairs on the sheets, so the question is whether the sheets were changed at all or if it was hair from the staff who changed the sheets, either way it is not a pretty sight. Also, perhaps the dimensions of the sink are too small, with the cramped space in the bathroom it is difficult for taller people to bend down to wash face, etc.

All the facilities of a hostel with the quality of a hotel. Clean and spacious. Price is spot on—perfectly balanced between hostel prices (private room) and hotel prices. Focus on sustainability. Free barista coffee each day when you become an ASR member (free). Free herbs from a awesome farmwall for cooking.

Minor things to make this great place even better. The windows are only tinted, not mirrored, which makes you very visible inside the room from the outside. We only found out on the third day… which means that unless you want to put on a show, you’ll have to keep the roller blind closed—and that makes the room a bit stuffy. The bathroom layout is a bit awkward with regards to getting wet, but that’s not something that can be fixed and it’s manageable. The doors close very hard, so when people are a bit inconsiderate, they sometimes create noise. Adding some shade in the courtyard next to the kitchen would make it even better.

We loved the bed, really comfortable! The location was also amazing, on a nice quiet street but easily walkable to the main areas in fitzroy and collingwood as well as tram stops. There’s also loads of hooks in the room which is super useful especially as they are quite small. Also loved the option of having a TV in the room.

The bathrooms could probably do with squeegees as the floor stays quite wet all day. Also a bath mat would be great so we don’t have to dry our feet on the carpet in the room. We arrived very early because of our flight and asked if it was possible for an early check in but it didn’t seem like the first guy on the desk who we spoke to did anything to try and assist with this, so we waited a while then asked a different employee if it would be possible to check in and thankfully she arranged this!

Lyf was really amazing! It was super clean, the people very friendly, the kitchen super big (and again, super clean), the small room we had was small but still very comfortable (very efficient use of space, in a way that even the small rooms feel spacious); they had a free herbs station; nice outdoor area; there even was free gym included (you can use one of the two gym cards of Lyf (if available) that allows you to go to this gym nearby for free); free coffee (fantastic cappuccino’s) every morning; laundry washing machines ($4 for a wash); and located in the heart of the best area of Melbourne: Fitzroy, this beautiful lively and artsy neighbourhood (which, may i add, is much much nicer (cuter, more pretty and friendlier) than the CBD!). Last but not least, sharing a small room with a double bed with my friend, Lyf was affordable (the same price as a private double bedroom at a hostel). This makes Lyf an amazing place where people of all ages can stay at, which gives it this very nice, friendly, comfortable vibe. All in all, Lyf was 10/10.

Located on a quiet street in the chicest part of Melb, I really loved how Lyf offered an apartment-feel but with hotel amenities. Big fan of Lyf's product! Their vibe maybe sounds a tad cringe, but not at all on the ground. The staying experience is so excellent, esp. for its value. The bed in this property was true luxe (the bedding omg real goose-down duvet and such a good mattress), and I really appreciated the room layout with thoughtfully placed plugs or light-switches. When I return to Melb, totally staying here! The value is supremo.

The Bathroom needed some improvement: the bathroom sink was laughably small. You couldn't even brush your teeth without getting water everywhere. Also the vanity shelf was too close to the tiny sink so I banged my head a few times trying to wash my face lol!
