We recently enjoyed a wonderful two-night stay at Hotel Le Donjon – Cœur de la Cité Médiévale, and it truly exceeded our expectations. The standout feature of this hotel is undoubtedly its exceptional location—nestled right within the ancient ramparts of Carcassonne’s medieval citadel. Stepping out of the hotel, we were immediately immersed in the charm and history of this UNESCO World Heritage site, with cobbled streets, historic towers and panoramic views just moments away. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, adding to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our flight was delayed and communications with the team were fabulous. Check if there are any events at the citadel - there are often shows there. If you're looking for a unique and atmospheric place to stay in Carcassonne, Hotel Le Donjon is a fantastic choice. Its unbeatable location inside the medieval walls makes it ideal for soaking up the history and magic of this extraordinary city.

Superb location inside the old city. Everything within a short walking distance. Staff were very helpful and able to communicate with us in English. Our room was in a very nice garden setting. It was a good size. The toilet is in a separate room from the bathroom. The shower had an excellent flow of hot water. The bed was comfortable. There was a good continental breakfast included in our rate.

The room is split level with 3 steps up from the living area to the sleeping area. The toilet is on the lower level, so at night we had to negotiate the steps in the dark without a handrail.

We were received extremely well. The hotel sent a driver to the parking lot to pick us up, and our luggage, since access into the citadel is limited to cars. We were immediately shown restaurants and bars we could frequent. We arrived late, so the hotel had recommendations where we could still eat. The staff was lovely, helpful and welcoming. The rooms are beautiful and clean. The hotel has a lovely garden and a lovely breakfast spot. The food is good. Everything was great and the setting is beautiful.

When we left, we checked out at peak hours and we had to wait to be brought back to the parking area where we left our car. We waited for over an hour. Avoid leaving at peak hours where tourists make driving in the city hard and when there are many others trying to leave as well. They did their best and it was not their fault: car access is limited in the citadel and many, many tourists make for a slow, slow descent.

This location can't be beat. Literally within the walls, 1 minute from a dozen great restaurants and all the historical sites. The luggage situation was confusing to me in advance but the staff knew what they were doing and it worked seamlessly. You have to call a taxi at the station (or uber) for about 10-12 euros to their parking site just outside the walls. Email them and ask what the address is. Then when you arrive, they tag your bags and voila they arrive in your room a little whole later. Outdoor seating areas were a nice touch.

Nothing stands out. I did not take the breakfast due to our overwhelming desire for crepes.

The best thing was the amazing location in the medieval heart of Carcassonne. We had a room with an outside courtyard which was perfect. The customer service was excellent from the concierge at the parking area / taxi drop off outside the city walls to the reception team and their great restaurant recommendations. Our room was quiet and spotlessly clean with a comfy bed.

Personally I thought the bathroom in our room was a little dated with a separate toilet. But this wouldn’t stop me from recommending the hotel or staying there again.

Well preserved hotel in the heart of the walled city. My room was spacious and well appointed, and housekeeping did an excellent job each day.

The woman working in the breakfast room was so shockingly rude that after our first morning we opted to have breakfast elsewhere, and it was clear we weren’t the only ones making that choice. In addition to her outrageous behavior—which included slamming and banging dishes and cutlery—she roughly handled the bread and croissants with her bare hands. It was a wholly unpleasant experience at 18€ per person.

Historic hotel within the incredible walled medieval city of Carcassone; the location was exactly what we wanted. The winding cobbled streets were just outside, pretty olive trees as our view.

Our room was cute and cozy, but on rainy days or after sunset, it was quite dark. Understandably, due to the beamed ceilings of the historic building, overhead lighting is not doable, but the floor and table lamps were in adequate for creating a warm and inviting space in the evening. Investing in some new fixtures and / or brighter wattage bulbs would help tremendously.

Great location. Very good breakfast. Comfortable bed. Very quiet at night. Dreamy fantastic views from 2 (!) windows.

Superior room was surprisingly glu small. No plug near bed (attention CPAP users). They did supply an extension cord to a plug across the room ( a bit hazardous during g the night). Water pressure sub-optimal in shower. As the shower is in the bath, the step out is tricky with no rail to hold. Could be hazardous in slippery bath. Elevator doesn't go to ground floor.

We loved the location, very much liked the room and the staff, once we actually checked in at the hotel itself, were very helpful

The car parking arrangements were not so good. Poor directions and no one at the car park to assist and point us in the right direction. For example, it would be so much simpler for arrivals to be told; drive right into the car park, to the end, and you be better able to fi d your way to the hotel’. Once the guide arrived we were able to get to our room. BUT it took over one hour from when we arrived in the car park until we got into our room. But for this we would have given the hotel a higher overall mark.

Very nice stay overnight, we were driving to Spain, but the roads were blocked and we managed to get off the Motorway just passed Narbonne, So this was an unplanned visit, the hotel is a great location, we had a very quiet room (so, a good night's sleep) and the breakfast was excellent, As it was Valentine's night we had the most wonderful 5 course meal and wines (a different glass of wine served with each course) at Chez Christine next door - a lovely evening, such good service, it was exceptional. So all in all, we really enjoyed our visit. We would love to come back to explore this amazing castle.

Our only problem was finding the car park - the road to it has a 'No Entry' sign, but we discovered that it only applies further down the road, you can drive a short way and the car park entrance is then on the left.
