The location was exceptional; it was one street back from the old town, in a charming, narrow stepped street that looked like a film set. The hotel was small, clean, and the view from my fourth-floor bedroom on to the port was outstanding. The windows were I think double-glazed, so I slept very well. The bed was bigger than I thought it would be, with an extremely supportive mattress. The manager, George, and the lady on reception, were incredibly helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them. George gave me excellent recommendations of where to eat, and excursions I could do, double-checking bookings I'd made and making a better and cheaper alternative booking for me for another excursion. I was impressed that everything worked - from the hot water to the TV - and there were tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom that were renewed each day. It was a very comfortable, welcoming and safe place to stay.

There was nothing I didn't like.

I had a fabulous view over the old Venetian Harbour, good air conditioning, a fridge, tea/coffee making facilities and clean room, and a comfortable bed. The hotel staff were very friendly and attentive. George offered helpful advice on places to eat, showed on a map how to get places with accurate time estimates, and suggested things to see and enjoy while I was in Chania. On returning to the hotel, he greeted me and asked me how I enjoyed the day or dinner, making it feel like I was coming home. With just 7 rooms, the hotel was quiet and personal - excellent for a solo guest travelling by public transport. Visitors with mobility issues should be aware that, as a historic property in the tiny alleyways of the hillside of the old port, there are steps in the street and no lift in the hotel. For those who can carry their own luggage 200 metres from a taxi drop-off near Talo Square and walk stairs, it is a charming and welcoming home away from home. Getting to the Central Bus Station and to the Market building bus stop where the tours pick up and drop off are each less than 15 minutes' walk away, making it a convenient location.

As a historic hotel, they've had to squeeze showers into tight spaces. If you want a luxury bathroom, you may be disappointed. If you are content with functional and clean, you'll be fine.

Absolutely beautiful view of the old Venetian port from the room. Room was bright and spacious. Perfect location in the old city. Not too far to walk to free parking if you have a car. Great cleaning job done each day. The staff are so friendly and could not do enough to help you with recommendations on what to see and where to eat. The coffee and breakfast at the nearby " the botanist" were exceptional. The photos I have added are from the room we stayed.

Note that being in the old town there are stairs so you need to be OK about walking stairs. Also the shower was fairly tight for space so may not suit really large people.

It couldn’t have been a more perfect hotel. It’s located in the perfect part of the old town, among beautiful old alleyways, and a little bit back from the more touristy parts of the main port. It felt very authentic and charming, and booking the room with the sea view was spectacular! George was so helpful with offering options for checking in at 4am and meeting me leave my bags all day! He also helped with organising taxis. The room was spacious and very clean, with simple but modern furnishings. I loved waking up every morning to the beautiful view of the port! I would love to come back.

The mini fridge was a little bit noisy but I unplugged it and then it was fine for me to sleep :)

A very nice small-sized hotel in the beautiful centre of Chania. The staff (Giorgos and Chrysoula) incredible nice and helpful and they know a lot about both the city and the island. The location is excellent, literally few metres from the sea, within the narrow and coloured streets of Chania. The facilities such as the good television are also very good. For those who are looking for an authentic experience in the straits of the colourful city of Chania, I would definitely recommend Helena Hotel!

In short, if you’re contemplating where to stay in Chania, just stay here. We are definitely coming back when we’re back in Chania. George, the owner, was the best part of our trip in Chania. He was kind, helpful and very responsive. He will ensure you feel welcomed and have the best time in Chania. He looked up the weather for the destinations we want to visit to help us plan our itinerary and he prepared us a printed map of Chania with handwritten recommendations of his favorite restaurants. He even moved us to a room with a nicer view on the second night. The rooms are also super clean and had a great view of the old port if you’re on the first floor and above. You get daily top up of Nespresso pods, which is a nice touch. The hotel is also located at a very beautiful and quiet part of the old town, which is nice as you can get away from all the hustle and bustle. But everything is still within walking distance. If you’re contemplating where to stay, just stay here, as you won’t regret it!

The only thing we had difficulty was parking. We went in May, which is a shoulder season, but we found it hard to find a spot in the closest free parking (George had already warned us about this). However, when we came to the hotel late or decide to move the car post dinner time, we were always able to find a spot. Just keep this in mind to avoid disappointment and mentally prepare yourself to be flexible.

The hotel is situated in a very central, yet quiet, area in the Old Chania. Our room had an incredible view on the port. The room has a small fridge and a nespresso coffee machine, with caps and water refurbished every day. George and Christa are amazing hosts, they went above and beyond with their recommendations which helped make our stay even more special. Thank you guys!

Parking in Chania centre can be a bit challenging. This is not the hotel's fault in any way, but it's a downside to keep in mind in such a central area. George was super helpful with his instructions re. free parking spot available in the area (within 200 and 400 mt).

Bathroom was fine but could do with updating - shower enclosure is quite small! No lift in the building so if you are less mobile the third floor (although it has amazing views) could be challenging...

This hotel is in the perfect location overlooking the Venetian harbour and my room had one of the best views I have ever had out of a hotel window. But what really makes this hotel so exceptional, is George, who runs the hotel for his family. When I arrived, I had left my suitcase at a shop several streets away and George actually came back with me to collect my case. He was the perfect host, showed me up to my room and explained how everything worked. He was also brilliant at helping me plan my stay, sorting out bus timetables, opening times and locations of all the places I wanted to visit. George's knowledge and help made a huge difference it really enabled me to get the very best out of my visit. And I also enjoyed practising my Greek with him!

Nothing

Everything was perfect! The area in which the hotel is, is very picturesque and so is the view, probably the best view in all of Chania. The host was very polite and friendly, he made great restaurant recommendations when I asked him to. The room was perfectly clean and very comfy. As a woman traveling solo I personally felt completely safe in the hotel and the surrounding area.
