Staff were superb, nice and approachable. Rooms were spacious, full of amenities you'd find in a studio apartment (ie: washing machine, dishwasher, iron). The location was pretty good as well, right in between the Universities and the central city. Comfortable bed, with enough pillows. Rooms were clean enough albeit some dust.

Underground rooms while still somewhat cold, did not have any ventilation to move fresh air about nor could you crack open the room windows (a fan was provided but this doesn't help fresh air). The toilet had no ventilation fan as well. Lobby flooring was stone so it was hard to drag luggage about.

The room was incredible, I could have happily lived in there! The quality of decor, staff, bedding and bathroom was fantastic.

The one thing that let it down was the noise. my room was right next to the laundry and it was literally the loudest spin cycle. The for some reason someone started to clean the hall hoovering at 9:15pm which was so loud I couldn’t hear the TV…. it’s an old building so I know it’s tricky to soundproof but this was definitely louder than any other hotel I’ve stayed in. I mentioned it to the staff on reception a couple of times (which is quite unlike me!)

I liked the open plan. Nice and roomy. The bathroom was good for people with mobility issues with a full wet room. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room at the rear was nice and quiet. The kitchen appliances were good although it took a search on Google to work out the microwave. Very clean. Plenty of amenities in the hotel although we didn't really take advantage of them.

The bed was close to the wall so it was not easy to get into one side. Could do with more storage for the bedside table and one on each side. Kitchen needed a corkscrew, bottle opener, scissors and sharp knife. Needed a main light when getting ready to go out and a dressing table area.

Whitworth Locke is in a fantastic central location, a short walking distance from either Manchester Piccadilly or Manchester Oxford Road stations. It overlooks the Rochdale Canal close to Gay Village and is just minutes from St Peter's Square. There were loads of cafes and restaurants nearby and a small supermarket directly opposite. We appreciated the positive response to our request to have a quiet room; we were allocated a spotlessly clean self-catering apartment on the top floor. The apartment had a large modern bathroom and an open-plan bedroom-sitting area-kitchen. The bed was very comfy. For its size, the kitchen was well equipped: two-ring hob, fridge, and there was a microwave, a dishwasher and a washing machine, although we didn't use those.

The shower was stuck on a (scalding!) hot setting, so we had to resort to using the sink for washing. The front desk did arrange for this to be fixed, but if we had not had to extend our stay due to Storm Amy, we wouldn't have benefitted from having that lovely big bathroom! The other disappointment was the limited offering to purchase at breakfast, and we thought the coffee and toast was over-priced. Indeed, from the menu we thought the attached Winsome Restaurant was pretty expensive (https://www.winsomemcr.co.uk/food-menu-pdf) so we opted to eat elsewhere at night.

I’ve stayed multiple times and it’s comfy and quirky in an excellent part of town to walk, uber anywhere or use public transport. There’s a Tesco Express and a Starbucks opposite if you need to buy breakfast.

It would have been 10 out of 10 if there was a cleaner automatically everyday. Also, there could be instructions on how to use the dishwasher and washing machine. Otherwise a very nice room. The new restaurant is very poor for the price. Better to go to The Ivy or elsewhere for the price. The cafe average. The bar is excellent. And nice sitting space to do a bit of work and make phone calls.

Location, price, facilities, I wanted for nothing and the staff are amazing. We were metres away from where we were visiting and had a kitchen in the apartments to make breakfast. There's a good hairdryer and an iron, plenty of wardrobe space and a little lounge area for sitting overlooking the canal. It's comfortable and spacious. The shower we had... I wanted to take it home with me, it's that good.

The kitchen stove was very slow and the lighting for makeup is poor, but if you're not in a hurry and brought your own lighting not a problem. We had a fan, but it was the hottest weekend in Manchester ever, and being in the centre it can get noisy at night. Neither of which are Whitworth Locke's fault and I expected it given the excellent location.

I recently stayed at Whitworth Locke and had a really positive experience. The building itself is beautiful, with stylish, modern interiors that still feel warm and inviting. My room was clean, spacious, and well-equipped, making it feel more like a serviced apartment than a standard hotel stay. The location is excellent – close to the city centre, public transport, and plenty of restaurants and cafés, yet still quiet enough to get a good night’s sleep. Staff were professional, friendly, and happy to help with any requests. Check-in and check-out were quick and smooth. The shared spaces, including the café and bar, had a great atmosphere and added to the overall experience. Overall, Whitworth Locke strikes the right balance between comfort, style, and convenience. I would definitely stay here again.

The room had a great layout, style, enough space. The bed was super comfortable with a decent mattress topper. The Location is very central. There is a heated towel rack in the bathroom. The room came with an iron and ironing board as well as a hair dryer. The lobby, and resto attached give it a great vibe downstairs. The staff were very kind and friendly.

The speed of the coffee service and pastries could be improved in the coffee shop that is attached. The door handle was loose to enter the bathroom which needs fixing. Otherwise nothing to else to say.

Beautiful building, nicely renovated to make a comfortable place to stay. The bar, coffee shop and communal working areas downstairs are buzzy so it feels welcoming and pleasant to come back to as a solo traveller, even if you don't use them. All staff at reception were friendly and helpful. Room was a good size and well kept, bed was super comfortable, generally I found noise levels inside the hotel just fine with barely anything audible from fellow guests. There was a little bit of noise from outside my room at night when bottles were being thrown away, but with windows closed it didn't bother me. Kitchen area small but well equipped generally. I liked that you can crack open the windows for fresh air - often not available in more modern buildings. Location was good for getting to Piccadilly and also basically the whole of central Manchester.

Excellent helpful staff. Vanessa on the front desk and Polly in the restaurant deserve special mention. Room nicely appointed, especially the bathroom, and spacious. Good shower, comfortable bed.

The room was dark. The weather didn't help, but the terracotta theme tends to soak up the light, and the lights in the room really weren't up to the job, particularly around the dark granite kitchenette. I had to use a torch to see and operate the controls on the microwave. I'm all for being eco-friendly but this room needs stronger light bulbs.
