The room hotel is very nice

Bathtub does not function..

Loved the location of the hotel, we were only in Georgetown for less than 24hrs, so it was a great base to explore the town from. A lot of attractions, amazing bars and restaurants were within a 15 minute walking distance. The staff were very friendly, and honestly it was good value for what we paid considering the price was on the lower end. Room was cozy and spacious, it was easy to feel comfortable. My partner also drove us from KL to Georgetown so we had been worried about the parking situation, but there is conveniently a parking lot you can pay for right next to the hotel.

There was no elevator so that caught us a bit off guard. When we got in, we decided to put our valuables in the safe only to find out the safe was locked and not working, and our toilet stopped working the evening we got there, the tank stopped refilling. These were minor inconveniences to an otherwise incredible experience in Georgetown.

Decent hotel very close to the Blue House. The main attractions in Georgetown are within walking distance (less than half an hour). There is a convenience store just across the street. Although the checkout time is at noon sharp, I could leave my luggage at the concierge and spent my afternoon exploring the town.

I felt a bit self-conscious when I walked on streets from the hotel to those famous street food stalls at night. I had to walk past some dodgy area, which, as a solo traveller, made me feel uncomfortable. During my check-in, although the staff was pleasant (not rude or anything), she was not ready to greet/welcome or introduce anything, which I think it is a letdown experience for staying at a 4-star hotel. Another point is the jacuzzi/bathtub on the second floor. I read the review before my visit and thought I had to book for my slot to use so that the hotel staff can clean the tub in between the booking slots. It turned out the hotel staff told me that I could use it at anytime (seems like a plus), but I did not dare to use it for fearing of unsanitary condition.

Location was perfect. 10-15 minutes walking distance to many attractions, street food and restaurants alike. Bathtub was great & the rainshower was awesome. They even provide bathbombs and bathsalt! Staff was very responsive to our requests for extra water, bathbombs, towels, etc. The shophouse vibe with a monochrome twist also made it very aesthetic.

We didn't really mind it, but just thought that other light sleepers might want to know that it's located just beside a mosque & the broadcasted morning prayer (around 6am in the morning) lasts for slightly under 10 minutes. Also, there's no lift but it wasn't an issue for us either since our luggage weren't heavy! The staff offered to carry it up for us but we did it ourselves anyway.

The room was big, clean and comfortable. Hotel have provided the bath bombs as we book the room with bath tab.

The water temperature not stable halfway shower the water suddenly too hot or cold. Beside the hotel have payment car parking lot, but the staff didn't ask us have car or not didn't offended special car parking card to us. After when we come back from outside want to park inside the payment car parking lot and saw the price was Rm 30 per night, and outside don't have any car park lot, we turn few rounds luckily we saw other staff and ask the staff about the payment car parking lot, only we know the hotel have provided special price for the car park, and we pay less than Rm 30 per night to park our car inside the payment parking lot. Actually we feel why the hotel don't provide free car park to customer who stay in hotel, since hotel side have payment car parking lot?

First off, this hotel is WORTH staying, one being is that the hotel is in the center of Georgetown (walking distance to anywhere), second the bathtub( in the balcony) was facing the roads worth using it as the balcony is also insta worthy, third would be the jacuzzi on the second floor, lastly the bed is spacious so as the room, the pillows isn't hard nor was it soft. OH MY GOODNESS my sister and I enjoyed staying.

We had requested for sugar but we were told that the hotel doesn't provide but I don't know why would they give us a coffee machine with coffee packets and no sugar/creamer. One more, there are not lift but only stairs since it only has 2 levels, the stairs are steep and spirally haha but overall would recommend

The hotel building is old, but I like it as a cultural heritage building. When I arrived the staff didn't say much but they did their jobs well. The room is spacious and I got a bathtub on the balcony as I chose before. The king size bed is large, but I wished it was bigger as I had one on many previous trip in Malaysia. Good air condition, hot water also available. However, I found the safe deposit box was jammed and I took it to reception to have it repaired. A few minutes later it was brought back to my room and it was working. The receptionist name is S, since then she always put nice smiles every time I pass through the lobby. Unfortunately later when we checked out early at 7AM, she was not on duty. The receptionist table was empty and we had to wait about 10 minutes before someone arrived. But this hotel and the service is good, I will stay again at this hotel.

The hotel did not provide tea and coffee sachet in the first night

Have travelled to Penang every year and each time have stayed at a different hotel. The Modern Hotel is great on all accounts and I'd be happy to stay there next year. It's really classy and comfortable- like a baby Eastern and Oriental, but better value. It has a touch of class and style lacking in not so good hotels for the same money. The staff are excellent and go above and beyond in all they do.

The mosque is right next door literally. What that means is a call to prayer announcement at the early hours of the morning which you will hear!

Pretty hotel, i would say cute. Strategic location. Beautiful room. I love the bath tub and komtar view from the balcony. Vintage feel with modern touch.

It has no elevator, and our room was on second floor. Quite difficult because we were traveling with a toddler, so we had to separate our stuff and baby stuffs into few shopper bags (instead of everything fits into our one big luggage).
