This fine old hotel is close to everything in the city center, both for sightseeing during the day and for restaurants and music at night. A nice feature is that it opens onto a shady plaza. The rooms are large, with high ceilings. Each has its own mini split air conditioner and ours had two ceiling fans. The beds were excellent.

We had a room that faced a major road that was very noisy in the mornings. The daily need to buy bottles of water resulted in a mountain of plastic left behind. We would have gladly paid extra to have access to water from a refillable water cooler or something similar.

The ambiance and location were great! It was within walking distance to a variety of restaurants and many places of interest.

Due to the location of our our room it was slightly noisy at night . The large inner courtyard made for greater potential for mosquitoes in the room.

A unique experience at a low price. You feel like you stepped back in time. A lovely historic hotel built in 1901 in a prime location just one block from the main plaza. Be aware, all rooms are on the second and third floors and there is no elevator. If you have physical limitations with stairs, this hotel is not for you. However, the porter will take your luggage to your room. Our third-floor room had a comfortable king-size bed, high ceilings, and two windows with sliding doors opening to small balconies. The room was conditioned by a quiet and effective mini split. Small TV with only Spanish channels. Our room was a good size, but the toilet and shower section was tight. Wooden period furniture and trim. There are plenty of places to sit on each floor to admire the antiques. Maid service available by request. The lobby is not air conditioned. The lobby center is an open atrium that gets wet when it rains. It’s dry around the sides and antiques are on display. If you are not staying here, it’s worth just walking through the lobby (open to the public). There is a Starbucks and an ice cream shop flanking the lobby entrance. Lots of good restaurants are just steps away. You will hear road noise, but it didn’t bother us. The staff were helpful when needed and they were able to book our excursions with the pickup at the hotel. Here are some of the amenities this hotel does not have: No pool, fitness center, business center, bar-restaurant, room service, in-room coffee, electronic key card lock, Big TV with English language station, etc. We didn't have a car, they offer parking, but it's two blocks away. We spent a week there and thoroughly enjoyed the non-resort.

The Gran Hotel de Merida is like a step back in time (and I mean this in a good way). The staff is helpful and accommodating. The area around the hotel has numerous restaurants and coffee shops, all within easy walking distance. The markets are wonderful experiences, engaging all the senses. The shops offer whatever you might need, everything from convenience store items to souvenirs. Beyond the area around the hotel there are many, many restaurants (Origen steakhouse, for example), sweet shops (Pasteleria de Ceci Medina and Ily Medina Especilidades Brasilieras, for example), clothing stores and other shops to explore. Mérida "has it going on," as we say.

We liked everything about Mérida. With trump as president, I am thinking of relocating to Mérida, Yucatán, México.

The hotel was built at the beginning of the 20th century, so it is elegant and beautiful, but very old and I am sure expensive and difficult to maintain. It cost much less than modern hotels, even the small ones There is no elevator for example, but there are outlets next to the bed, a mini split air conditioner that works effectively, and the staff provides plenty of clean linen and the hot water works well. Besides the reasonable cost, the location can’t be beat. my traveling companion didn’t stay with me, but in another nearby hotel because she is very sensitive to noise and had read in the many reviews that the hotels location on the main Square made the evenings very noisy. However, I did not find this to be the case at all, and I had a room with a balcony overlooking the plaza. There was music at night until about 10 PM on the weekend, but it was certainly not too noisy to get a good nights sleep.

This hotel is amazing from historical perspective and the experience was very good. It was built in 1901, and still in very good condition. The room was big with king sise bed. Small bathroom. AC. two big windows. Antique design with classic furniture. Small TV and small bar fridge. From the window we saw the HIDALGO PARK at historical downtown . The location is perfect to enjoy the old city (just half block from the beautiful cathedral and central park).

1. No elevator. We climbed to the 3rd floor where our room was located. I saw the bellboy helping with luggage anyway. 2. Extremely hot in Merida during our stay in May 2024, the AC was only for the rooms, not for common areas. 3. No breakfast offered. But swveral options ariund the hotel, staring with Starbucks, who is located at the entrance. 4. No pool available. Very desirable because the horrible 45 to 50C temperatures in Merida in May 2024. 5. Bathroom was super small, apparently added to the room to keep private full service. Sink was outside the bathroom.

Located pretty much right in the center of the town, the hotel is a stunning old building with loads of character and with beautifully furnished and decorated common areas. There is also a handy Starbucks just off the lobby (which is not owned by the hotel itself and also gets very busy). My room was spacious and bright and had a little balcony with a lovely view of the square it faces. The bathroom was smallish with a large step up to it but the shower was big. The room had a fridge and a safe deposit box which were unexpected. The reception staff were all very professional and helpful and spoke good English. I thought the value for money was excellent.

One drawback with such an old building and it being in the tropics is the upkeep, so while the cleaning of the room was very acceptable there was some mold on the lower bathroom tiles and some of the lovely floor tiles in the bedroom were loose and wobbled. Also one day the water barely got warm although the next day it was better. A free bottle of water in the room would have been welcome and a nice touch.

Overall I really liked staying here. The staff were friendly, the room was nice and the location was perfect. It’s a beautiful building and you can really feel the history of the hotel itself - plus the view from the room was excellent. Also a shoutout for the comfy bed.

Only very small things, but it wasn’t clear at all how the shower worked (or easy to adjust the temperature), the fan was awkward to turn off etc.. However, this is an old building so you kind of expect small issues like this.

Beautiful hotel in a historic building, spacious rooms, excellent location, friendlyand helpfulstafc members. The rooms and decorations are of a different area, but this is the whole point, the preservation of the place as it was. As a result some room facilities seem(and are) old, eg the shower. Still we did enjoy our stay in this environment, beautiful and unique!

Poor WiFi. Also during the second night that we stated we did not have sufficient warm water.

The location is great, near the central plaza, near many restaurants and shops. They do not have drinking water, you must buy it, which was a bit inconvenient. They had a Starbucks attached which was good, but they didnt have water several days.

It’s a beautiful old hotel, with 3 floors, and no elevator, it was a bit difficult to climb the stairs but they put us on the second floor, and carried our baggage for us.
