With a great location beside the University and close to Albert Park, Braemar is a very interesting and lovely period home. The hosts, John and Mel, were wonderful, and there were comfortable common areas offering tea and other drinks. John provided useful suggestions about activities and lots of information about Auckland and the house itself. The breakfast was great! I wish we could have stayed longer.

I'm not a big fan of shared washrooms, but this actually worked out fine as there weren't many people sharing the same one. Also, we had a sink in our room, so that helped.

We had a cozy stay in this old charming place. When we arrived, the host Mr. John welcomed us even barefoot on rainy day. Ms. Mel also welcomed us with a warm smile. I felt so touched, thank you so much again. The place is very gorgeous, felt like time stopped. I loved all the details. In the morning, lovely breakfast by Mr. John was waiting for us. Thank you for preparing our room as we requested, I really appreciate it. Valet parking was great too. I wish I can go back to this magical place in Auckland in the future. Stay healthy and safe, Thanks a lot again.

Lovely fully restored period building in central location within walking distance of the waterfront area and lovely park. Freshly cooked breakfast personally served by the owner. Beautiful period style breakfast room. The owner provided lots of helpful advice and local history. The owner personally drove me to the railway station no extra charge

What a lovely place and the host is not only super friendly but also a great entertainer and has a huge knowledge about almost everything. It was a great pleasure to stay at this place. Everything was clean and very comfortable. WiFi worked well and fast. The breakfast was amazing and far better than any other place I stayed in New Zealand. The lovely touch and the old Victorian house made the stay for me unforgettable... I will definitely come back again.

The hotel is beautiful, old but very well maintained and restored. John, the host and owner is charming, friendly and very good at providing information about the city and places to visit. Breakfast was delicious and excellent company.

The only thing I didn't like was that if you go with a heavy suitcase you have to carry it up the stairs.

Braemar is an old house, over 100 years old and it shows its age. But that is part of its charm, if you like boutique experiences and can appreciate antiques, then you will be delighted to stay here. The host has got to be one of the best I have ever encountered, he is very friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable about the history of the home and of Auckland. It helps that he was a radio personality "back in the day". I would stay there again just to have social time with.

The house is old, as such there will be things that are quirky and might not appeal to everyone. They also allow dogs and have a few themselves, while this is great for dog lovers, be prepared for the odors.

Really enjoyed our stay, the hosts were very welcoming and we enjoyed the local knowledge and history they could provide. There were resident dogs which my kids loved (very friendly and sweet, but possibly not to everyone's taste with allergies etc), and who we got to play with and have breakfast alongside the next morning. The building is a fantastic and well maintained period property, with all the quirks you might expect, and we really enjoyed our stay!

The enamel in the bath is peeling off and ended up floating around the tub with the kids, but not the end of the world! Although we are fans of dogs and enjoy meeting new pooches, I would anticipate this being a sticking issue for some guests particularly as they came up to the room when we were being shown in by the host, and were also present in the breakfast room in the morning. As I said above, they were lovely and very sweet dogs, no concerns at all about them being around the kids etc but I know some people can be a bit precious about this!

Braemar felt like a home from home in a beautiful part of the city. I arrived after a long flight and Jon welcomed me like family, offering breakfast and helping me plan my stay and the best places to visit as well as sharing some history and useful information about New Zealand as I was planning to travel around. The house is so beautiful it feels like a stately home with big rooms and two cute doggies downstairs (they don’t go upstairs to the guest rooms). Jon and his wife are perfect hosts and Jon was so kind and helpful even dropping my bags to my next accommodation nearby. I wish I could have stayed longer and would absolutely stay again.

Nothing it was perfect!

John the host was super friendly. Breakfast was good and so too was the free parking. Super handy location to Spark arena.

The lighting in the bedroom was a bit dim. But, this is a historical home that has been converted into a BnB, so to be expected as it gets upgraded.

John had enough lived experience to meet and rapport with me, with a natural and welcoming manner as a creative male of Rainbow culture, and then my lover, on my return -mature inclusiveness! The bath was a gem for my lover to lavish in, and sing! The open window for some cooler natural air through the night was a delight The breakfast conversations were delightful and far reaching in their topics of interest for both of us as diverse guests Nice to have some animal poodle spirit on site

Can the doorbell be heard in all parts of the house? Does John have the awareness to know when to be of service and when to converse..? I was expecting a sumptuous breakfast based on the price and info advertised - "Breakfast info Continental, Full English/Irish, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-free, Buffet", while another website did not describe the breakfast info Did a retail pottle of yoghurt and an initial warm pot of coffee from the last guests suffice? Does there need to a type of soap for the bath, and, that the shower condiments are on a rack instead of just in the corner on the floor, for ease of identifying
