Check in great even though was 12.30am staff were helpful and cheery Great location couldn't be better Modern and trendy with some nice touches Clean and I was on 4th floor and halfway back so quiet too. I used the gym but it's tiny but great for a workout, few machines and free weights Close.to bus station 3 minute walk so easy for intercity buses
Rooms are very small! I was solo in a double city room but even so was very cosy! You don't want to be over 6ft either !! Very space saver design, fair play everything is there, hot showers, kettle and tea coffee in your room. There is a large lounge, bar restaurant downstairs to use.

The hotel is in an excellent central location, right in the heart of the city. I arrived 3 hours before check-in as I was going to a wedding so had to leave the hotel at 1pm to make us a bus to the venue. I said I know it's too early to check in but can I please borrow an iron to iron my dress (as I had just flown in for the event) and the manager bent over backwards to find a clean room for me. I will return because of this kindness.
Nothing, it was all good. The room was small but that was to be expected as I'd said I didn't care what room I was given as I just needed to be able to iron my dress and otherwise I was only coming back at midnight to sleep (so I was grateful to be given 1 of the 2 clean rooms available in the hotel at that time).

More than I expected! The location could not be better, literally. The room was better than the photos and very well equipped, especially for the price. You don't pay much more than for a private hostel room here, but you get all the hotel amenities and services. The food downstairs was great and very reasonably priced, the room had a good bathroom, hairdryer, iron, jug, fridge, tea/coffee/milk.... And this was just the cheapo room. And it's not walking distance to city centre, it IS city centre.
Everything was great. More than I expected. I guess the only thing I could complain about if I wanted to would be the parking, but there's plenty of public parking for very reasonable cost and easy renewal online very close, so it was all easy.

My third and final visit to the BreakFree. This time I stayed longer than just one night, but three, to see Christchurch and not always use the BreakFree as a transfer hotel. As with my last visits, I had a room without a window, which doesn't really bother me. There is a washing machine and dryer on every floor if you want to do laundry. The location of the hotel is great for exploring the city on foot. That's not difficult, Christchurch isn't that big. WiFi is good everywhere in the hotel. There are supermarkets and restaurants in the area. All in all, a very good hotel for a city trip.

Cost effective and easy to get to in the central city. Within short walking distance of central city shops and cafes.
It's a fine place to stay, but there are also questionable design decisions: - A plug that is way too small for the basin plug hole - Clothes hangers that have a business shirt hanging on the coffee mugs below (too bad if you had pants or a dress!) - A ironing board provided but you have to crawl under the bed to reach it. All fine, minor stuff, but I challenge the hotel manager to try staying in one of the rooms to learn.

The hotel was very convenient for walking or catching the tram around Christchurch . There are many restaurants and cafes nearby and shops . There is a big supermarket about one block down on the next street parallel to hotel (looking out front door .) The foyer had a restaurant and the food was pretty good for lunch and dinner choices altho I wasn’t that fussed on the buffet breakfast as nothing was hot enough for me personally . There was also a bar in the foyer. The staff were all very friendly . Can recommend a cafe called Belle which is a few blocks away behind the cathedral at the end of a sort of mall street. The decor was VERY eclectic!
Whilst we did book a “studio” room…. It was v e r y small with really only a high double bed ( luggage fit underneath) and a round cubicle bathroom …and a small bar fridge . We found it ok…but others might find that sort of room a challenge as the person next to the wall has to climb over the other person to get out of bed in the middle of the night. Not sure what other rooms types they had . The studio would ideally suit one person.

My favorite thing about this hotel was the location; that was great, especially for me as a solo traveler without a car. Easy to get the bus from the airport there (have cash with you; it's $4, line 8), there are lots of restaurants around, and it is easy in general. The room is great if you are a solo traveler (there are bigger rooms too, I think) but there's not a lot of space for bags and clothes, so if you are staying for a long time or bringing a lot of things, that might not be great (or if you are looking for a desk to work from, my room didn't really have one, so pay attention to the type of room you choose ) - I worked from a cafe and it was all good. I'd recommend this hotel!
Wish there was a chair in my room for me to work

It's a nice place in central Christchurch. Staff is friendly and can arrange parking at a nearby carpark (it's not free though). Decent little gym, nice little cafe in the lobby, easy walk to anything in CBD Christchurch.
Just a word of warning -- some of the rooms have no window. I booked one such room without realizing it, and the staff were kind enough to provide an 'upgrade' because they had a windowed room available. (Even then, it's a tiny little porthole). It *does* say in the room descriptions, but you have to notice. The titles say "City Room" or "Inner Room", which is fair, I suppose, but doesn't go out of its way to underline the window situation.

A nicely set up room with daily servicing. Very central so easy to get around Chch. Excellent staff. The room was cleverly set out to make the most of the small space.
The bed was quite high off the floor so could be challenging for someone who's mobility is limited. The shower was small and the floor slippery when wet so you had to tread carefully. Definitely best for a single traveller as the bed was set into the corner of the room so could only be accessed from one side.

First impression was good. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Reasonable breakfast. Location was good. Room was quiet.
Room size ! Probably the smallest double room we have ever stayed in. Whilst not quite having to be gymnasts it would have helped us get round each other better if we had been ! I understand the hotel was originally built with students in mind. If, as they do now, cater for other travellers these rooms need to be looked at.
