Rooms were spacious and had plenty of storage. One of the drawers jammed shut but staff fixed it for me within 5 minutes. Great communication from staff; very helpful and positive. Loved the emphasis on quiet time from 10pm. Kitchen facilities were good, and plenty of communal areas to relax in. The library shelf was a nice touch! Everything was really clean and fixtures were a much higher standard than I'd expect from a hostel. We had an en-suite bathroom which was lovely; a great shower with plenty of hot water and even access to a hairdryer. Really great location for many attractions; Hagley Park, Botanical Gardens, Cable car stops, shopping areas, food venues etc and close to the bus interchange which made travel from the airport very straightforward.

My only slight niggle was there were not many plates available, although there were plenty of bowls!

Everything was amazing. Wonderful, confortable, clean and brand-new. Everything you need is here. Perfect spot next to the city center.

The only black spot was the heat ! Sooooo hot at night and unfortunately no fan or air conditioning, we were literally dying into the room... Could be nice to fix this little problem to make it the perfect place to be in Christchurch !

This is my second stay at Haka House Christchurch, safe to say it is the best place I could stay for at such an affordable price. The place in itself is very clean! The bedsheets, bunk beds bathrooms are always clean, and it is great! The location is top notch, only a few minutes walk to riverside market and all the fun shops, museums, etc. I stayed for 4 days and 3 nights, and it cost me around 160 NZD, rounding up to 40/night.

Honestly, I couldn't think of anything bad to say. If I had to nitpick, it's probably how the previous ensuite 4 bedroom had a full body wash, shampoo and conditioner while the room that I stayed at recently didn't have any shampoo and conditioner. SO BRING YOUR OWN!!!

Haka House is ideally located near the Art Centre where there is some nice galeries and food trucks and the Botanical Garden. It is also very close to the city center without being in the noisy part. It is also very clean, I arrived late for the check-in but I called the phone number on the door and a person working there helped me. Thank you. I don't know her name but I know that she is swedish. Finally there is a little certain in the bed which is quite nice.

Almost everything was perfect, and as it is an hostel it is normal that not everything is finished but as everything is so perfect maybe having towels would be nice, and also napkins for eating in the dining room.

I checked in late and was sent an email about instructions of getting my room card. This was straightforward and checking out the next morning was also easy (just had to drop off the room card). Nice warm place on arrival. Room was clean and appropriate for the price value. Interesting they provided a cooling fan though when its winter and very cold... Bed was comfortable. Overall, good value for money.

Additional heating would have been great - the wall heating was a bit lacklustre. Luckily the bedding was warm enough.

My stay was super comfortable and I am so glad I chose Haka House. I booked one bed in a 2-room dorm and stayed 3 nights. When I arrived, the person already in my room had put the heating on in the room (it was 19°C outside!) and I asked if there were any fans available. They had another room available and accommodated me that way instead; the only one available was at the staircase and next to the bathroom, and despite the slightly greater noise, I was much more comfortable in a space where I could open the window and have it open all night and close the curtains without any issues. As a solo woman I felt safe and I never worried about my things because I could put a lock on the storage lockers. Privacy 10/10, Safety 10/10, Cleanliness 10/10. Would definitely stay again.

The four bed room I was in was spacious. There were good quality curtains for privacy. It was Ensuite and the showers were hot The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful particularly Marley and Diego. Truthfully they were all very kind and very helpful but I didn’t get to know others’ names to mention them. I loved having a nice large kitchen with spacious fridges and a reasonable quality and quantity of China, crockery, pots and pans. The location is perfect in the city centre. Above all it’s a chilled place and has a good vibe.

I don’t know what was up with my mattress but I always walk up with sciatica. Something I’ve never had before.

Nice hostel with super friendly staff in great location. I was in an upstairs bunk that was creaking a lot and when I asked nicely to change bed/rooms for the rest of my stay they even upgraded me to a better room category for free. It's within walking distance to the city centre and some nice restaurants. The beautiful botanic garden is also just around the corner.

No free onsite parking was a bit of a pain, but luckily I was able to find a spot in one of the free parking streets that wasn't too far away.

Excellent location in the heart of the city. Sharp, alert, passionate staff. Very well equipped kitchens, and excellent common areas to relax in. Comfortable beds in nice rooms. Clean, spacious, highly recommended.

The shower mats have some kind of dye in them that transferred green grey to the heels of my feet. Really recommend sourcing from a new supplier. Some bathrooms could better utilise space. For example, a large unused space between the shower and external wall that could accommodate a shelf to place clothes, say. Hand towels are supplied each day, but used by multiple people is not hygienic. Would be great to see paper towels dispensers or hand dryers.

This was our second stay in haka house Christchurch. Every single staff member we’ve met during our stay there have been incredibly friendly and helpful. It’s extremely clean always. The beds are so comfortable - great sleep always. The location is a 5-minute walk to the city centre. They stored our bags for the day for only $4. Clean towels provided, hairdryer in the room, shower products available in the bathrooms. And a real ethos of respect apparent across the property, never any issues with noise
