Absolutely impressed with this hotel, the excellent location, a safe and close walk to central city, refurbished hotel and facilities and lovely staff. The fact that we as paying guests help contribute to the Christchurch community by way of the kind foundation- made me feel better about the $25 per day fee to park safely onsite - it was worth it. beautiful outlook- our room overlooked botanical gardens.comfortable- will stay again.

We stayed at Hotel Give after cycling the Hurunui Heartland Trail. Our accommodation included two nights camping, both simple, very Kiwi and enjoyable. However, Hotel Give was a lovely treat at the end of our 260k ride with lots of hill climbing. Everything about the hotel puts guest comfort centre stage, from welcoming reception staff to comfortable rooms to well-equipped community kitchens to personable housekeeping staff - yet at a remarkably low price per room. As cyclists concerned about the safety of our bikes, we were extremely impressed by the system of using an outside secure storage shed in the daytime and a storage room inside the hotel overnight. But what marks out Hotel Give as being profoundly different to its competitors is its ethos of social sustainability, that it is a social enterprise: it is simply wonderful that all profits from our stay are reinvested back into programmes and services provided by the Kind Foundation in the Christchurch Community.
Nothing.

Very comfortable ideal for my stay very helpful and informative staff both at the bar and reception if l come back to Chch l would stay again the shared bathrooms were well kept and clean that coffee machine on the ground floor for me was an absolute life saver just knowing that someone was available during the night at reception was very reassuring in the event you may leave your swipe card when bathroom stop.. The offer to hold my luggage until my flight was profound and much appreciated l will be recommending this Hotel Give to all my friends
It wasn't so much l didn't like but more the word apprehensive during the use of.......and that was the toilet l am a 107kg male the extract fan is ideal for the shower but struggles to remove air from the toilet when having a shower so you use the toilet for 10-12 mins then jump in the shower, when you finish and step out to the toilet the air isnt as fresh as the shower.....maybe ,an auto scented spray unit or 2nd extract air grill

I liked the room with the balcony, clean, tidy, laid out well, great view towards both the gardens and over the carpark facing the city. Thanks for having us!
On one note, I found that the kitchenette we had in our own room didn't have an isolated light/light switch. It was controlled by the main lights of the room and unfortunately meant that if someone was to get up and use the kitchen during the night, all the lights in the room had to be on, and unfortunately for the person who remained in bed as the lights were directly above it. Minor thing, I think there could be more sugar available to the rooms that don't have the shared kitchen on the same floor. There were 2 of us and we had to go downstairs to get more after only a couple of coffees.

The locality is excellent. The room was very good and comfortable with a great view of the Botanical Gardens and the old Christchurch University.
It would have been useful to include a sharp knife for cutting items and a small board but not a train smash The wifi connection is extremely poor. Even the staff have a challenge with it. Wifi is so weak that it could not be used for emailing,, transactions etc. If you did not have Esim or some type of local data your connectivity is almost non existent. It seems as if the bandwidth has been throttled. This was a big negative for our stay and detracted from what should have been a great hotel experience. This is the only place in NZ where we have had poor wifi connection.

New Hotel close to the centre of Christchurch. Quiet, clean and large room.
Excessive credit card fees. Relatively high onsite parking charges. Hotel reception staff is not very friendly or helpful. Example: We asked the receptionist whether we could leave the rental car in the hotel's car park for a couple of hours after check-out, so that we could have breakfast. The receptionist advised that he would allow a maximum of one extra hour as they were expecting many new guests. We returned to the hotel after one hour and the car park was less than 50% occupied. The receptionist said that he was just checking whether our car was still parked in the hotel's carpark and he wanted us to leave immediate.

This is a great place to stay. Close to the CBD, cheap with exceptionally friendly staff. I believe it is an old hotel that was turned into a YMCA some years ago because it was dated but it has now been renovated & is what I consider a 3/4 star accomodation. I didn't have a toilet or ensuite in my room (which I believe most haven't) but in my case the facilities were right across the hallway with others close by. Highly recommend this accomodation. PLUS their profits are filtered back into the community by way of donations to charities 💕 it also now has its own restaurant which wasn't the case the last time I stayed

This clean and comfy hotel exceeded our expectations. Modern decor and large rooms were clean and included a fridge, but no microwave. Access to a public kitchen helped us with our budget as we made breakfast in-house - like a hostel, you have access to a commercial fridge, pots, pans, etc. In house restaurant food was good, we ate dinner there twice. We also loved the location - directly across from the Botanic Gardens and next to the University of Canterbury - it's a beautiful neighborhood. Walking distance to shopping and the Quake Museum, easy pick-up for Uber and tours.

Great location-- Less than 5 minute walk to the botanical gardens, the Number 8 bus stop (to/from airport); 5 minute walk to an art museum, a grocery store, and the Riverside Market (lots of shops and places to eat). The Riverside Market area reminds me of the River Walk in San Antonio, Texas in the United States. The room was very clean, and the bed comfortable. The hotel has 2 guest kitchens if you want to cook your own food; there is a guest laundry room. My floor (and I assume all floors) had an additional bathroom and shower on it. This is great if you have more than one in a room, and your roommate is hogging the bathroom facilities. There is 24/7 reception--nice in case something goes wrong--I don't like contactless check-in.
No towel racks--you have to lay them on the counter or hang them on hooks. You have to pay for the hotel at the hotel. I personally would like to pre-pay.

Good location, in front of the Botanical Gardens and easy access walking to the CBD.
One of the main criterias I used to search for a hotel was "private bathroom". I was underwhelmingly suprised when I got there only to learn that the famlily rooms DO NOT have a bathroom. This property should never have appeared as available to me during my search due to the criterias I searched for. Also, no air conditioner in the room, only a fan that did not make the room any cooler during the night. Overall, clean place, shared kitchen is very organized and clean, staff were making sure place and bathrooms were clean all the time.
