I think this may be the only hotel in Bristol I'll stay in now! Beautifully decorated, super friendly and smiley staff who immediately stopped conversation with co-workers the minute we appeared which made us feel special! The room is big, the shower and bath too! The water pressure on the main shower wasn't great but the hand held one was fantastic. We had a plug malfunction, thought we were just being stupid but reception were fantastic in making sure we didn't feel silly & immediately sent maintenance up and less than half an hour later we had a new plug for the bath! We didn't have enough pillows but they were more than happy to accommodate and send more (but that's personal preference, you get your standard 2 pillows per person). Now, the breakfast...yes, it's your standard buffet BUT they have so many gluten free & dairy free/vegan options which was wonderful for my friend, instead of sticking to just fruit she could have a lot...including coffee with plant based milk!!! We were really really impressed & 100% recommend staying here - plus the streets outside are quiet so that's a bonus!

From my arrival to my departure I was met with a wonderful warm welcome from the very professional staff at the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel ...thank you for making my Christmas stay so memorable ... Lewis, Juan, David, Gabby, Jhanelle, Malik, Kapil, Crissy, Naadiya, Maks, Hagir, Junmoni, Helene, Paula, Armani and Chris . Take note how well dressed the reception staff are 👍. .

Mr TOM , Nobody on this planet has the right to treat the professional staff at the Mercure with such disrespect as you did in front of guests and staff on Christmas Day morning...I'm sure you wouldn't like others yelling at you as you do ... take note from the professionals.

Staff were superb - all extremely friendly and helpful. The location was fantastic, right in the heart of the old town with lovely shops and restaurants close-by. The rooms were clean and easily accessible via lift or stairs; we couldn't hear any noise from outside once in our room. Shower gel, shampoo and towels all provided, as well as a kettle and hairdryer. We had breakfast on one day which was very reasonably priced (and child ate for free!)

The room was really hot - even with the temperature turned down as far as it could go and the beds were quite hard (which is good if you like a hard bed, but it made my back ache). Coffee sachets were not re-filled from one day to the next. I was able to call down to reception for some, and they were prompt to bring some, but would have been better if they had been refilled (a very minor problem though!)

The hotel is nice, clean and the staff are friendly. The bar area is really nice too. The location is fantastic. We were able to leave our bags at midday and come back to check in later. Check in was easy and straightforward. The rooms were well signposted.

Our kettle was broken, we discovered this on the first morning. We took the kettle to reception but they couldn't find a spare and said they'd have one sent up. The kettle never appeared sadly. The room was mostly in good repair but the shower hose leaked and some furniture could do with a refresh. A fridge would also be useful.

Location was the primary reason for choosing this hotel as we were just visiting for a couple of days, and it was in the best spot and had some really nice nearby cafes and vintage shops right next door. We were also impressed by the period detailing mixed with a refined industrial design aesthetic, alongside the overall layout, styling and cleanliness throughout. 10/10.

Incredibly minor - the tv remote buttons were sticky so struggled bringing up the TV guide, and we don’t have baths in our London home so had requested a bath in the special notes as the room description said ‘bath or shower’ but this wasn’t addressed or actioned, sadly, but not a big issue!

The staff was incredibly friendly and I appreciated the option to leave my luggage in the locker room after my check-out. I also loved the bar and the quality of the service there. Great music and atmosphere too. Very clean room and the style reflects Bristol brilliantly.

The room was a bit cold for my taste and I couldn't figure out how to turn off the Aircon. There was no phone to call reception for help, so I'm not sure how to contact them with issues other than going downstairs. The mattress was a bit uncomfortable and bumpy, might need an upgrade soon. But otherwise I was really happy with my stay and I would come again.

Really lovely hotel. Staff were welcoming on arrival, check in was quick! Our room was lovely! Spacious, everything we needed for our stay was there including an iron and ironing board and most importantly spotlessly clean. We had a fridge in the room which was really handy plus an added bonus of a few complimentary drinks left for us in there which was a really nice touch! Breakfast was great lots to choose from. The location of this hotel is excellent, walking distance from train station and central to lots of bars, restaurants and the hippodrome theatre. It’s only a short walk away from Cabot Circus. Overall a fantastic stay here and wouldn’t hesitate to book again!

Breakfast was good. The scrambled egg was a problem. We found out later that we could order other eggs. Veronica was very helpful. Listened, acted on feedback and looked after us in a way that we appreciated very much. Also Lewis on reception was a credit. When he had to deal with the problem of no teabags in the hotel, dealt very well and reacted in a way that showed he understood the principle of customer service. The bar staff were very helpful too. When we accidentally silt a drink they replaced it free of charge which was a lovely gesture.

It would seem the problem of no breakfast tea in the hotel could have been solved with a trip to the wholesalers. Unfortunately it appears that this was not an option that anyone thought of or was empowered to choose.

I booked the first night three months prior to staying so it was great value and the breakfast was great too. We were very kindly upgraded to a better room upon arrival so stayed another night for an extra £20 (having initially booked a substandard room at the Ibis Temple Meads!)

The key card only worked on the third try for no apparent reason and there was some rubbish/dirty plates etc left outside other rooms on our way to and from reception for quite some time on both days which we were surprised at. Overall a great stay due to unexpected upgrade and location though

Good location, easy to find, parking was convenient and felt safe. Room was lovely and clean. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

Bedsheets or possibly duvet could have been a bit better as felt a little bobbly but they were clean and I slept well. Bear in mind it is an old building so the windows aren’t the best for keeping noise out so if you are a light sleeper and want an early night I suggest ear plugs (more for when the bars close so not all night). We were on first floor at the front of the hotel so it may be different if you are round the back.
