I’ve chosen Federale for its proximity to the city centre, but we actually lived in annex which was actually even one step closer to it. So, all written below is for the lovely annex app.1: - Just in the centre: if you live in the annex, there is Manor food supermarket and your own kitchen at your disposal, so no reason to go up for the hotel’s breakfast; - Very quiet location with only occasional noisy groups of people and bells of the cathedral violating your nirvana; - Nice big room with high celling and everything you need; - Our room had access to the terrace and it was lovely, adorable place for breakfast. To the cons: - Not enough nespresso capsules for coffee drinkers (but good that there was coffee powder); - Still it’s apart from the hotel and you don’t have easy access to its benefits, though have to return the keys there.

Location: near a train station; A few minutes walk from the city center. We received a ticket for free travel on public transport in the entire Ticino region. A rich breakfast. It is possible to purchase additional meals as well, a menu appears clearly in advance, at the beginning of each day. The staff at the hotel provides an answer to any question about transportation and itineraries.

This cute hotel was extremely clean and comfortable. Beautiful, charming, special facilities. Good bed, nice furniture, all new. Balcony with view in my individual room. Bathroom with window to ventilate. Super friendly staff. Open garden for breakfast, was amazing in a summer morning. Good breakfast, with plenty of variety of bread, cheese, fruits, veggies, eggs, ham and cold meat. I am super pleased with the experience and I will repeat if I come back to Lugano. It was also super close to the train station, less than 5 minutes walk down the hill.

No complains at all! It was perfect for me.

The location of Studios 1 and 3 is excellent - just down the steps from the Cathedral of Saint Lawrence (the bells start at 7:00 and stop at 20:00). They both have air conditioning. Very clean and quiet, with the exception of some street noise (people, no cars). Oil, salt, dishwashing liquid, dishwasher tablets, sponge and kitchen towels were provided. Staff were friendly and professional, especially when I locked my keys in the room and they had to come down and help! It is close to the station (5 minutes walk) but it's up a steep hill that is mostly ramp with some stairs.

The shower head needed repair (it did not stay in place). The bedside lighting needs replacing.

Everything! From the hospitality of our check-in to the room with the incredible veranda, to excellent value for the price, Hotel Federale was incredible. When we arrived we asked if we could upgrade to a room with a balcony...not only did we get a balcony, it actually had three doors out to it and an amazing overlook of the city, the surrounding mountains, and the lake, and on the wraparound we could see the train station. Since the room was not quite ready, the desk manager offered us espressos on the house at the bar while we waited. Hotel gave us some excellent advice for getting around and getting to the lifts overlooking the city. Balcony was perfect for bringing in dinner with a view and the room was so comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was very civilized sitting outside. Hospitality of this hotel was top notch. Grazie mille!

Wish we had planned more nights here.

The breakfast at Hotel Federale offers an excellent variety of options, catering to different tastes with both continental and local dishes. The location is excellent, situated conveniently near the city center and cathedral making it easy to access major attractions and transportation. Overall, it provides a comfortable and satisfying experience for guests. My favorite part is having breakfast with the owner 3 days in a row. Dinner at Hotel Federale is generally well-regarded, offering a selection of well-prepared dishes that highlight local and international cuisine. The restaurant ambiance is pleasant and the service is attentive. It's a good choice for both a casual meal and a more formal dining experience. Huge bonus when the chef says Hi to all the guest's.

My family and I love every European experience we had this summer.

Superb location minutes walk from station, transport and town centre. Plenty of good restaurants close by. The hotel still has the old-fashioned family-run feel with helpful and friendly staff who recognise you. Very comfortable bed and pleasant lounge areas at ground level. Excellent breakfast with full range of cooked and fresh options. Umbrellas belonging to the hotel are freely provided for guests who venture out during a storm.

I was charged the tourist tax at checkout time, when I was in a hurry. I would have preferred to pay the tax at checkin.

The triple room is great for families. We had space for all 4 of us (baby in crib). Enough space. Sufficient breakfast. Staff friendly. A little expensive for what we had - but in line with Swiss pricing.

I wish there were more food options available in the hotel - we came on Sunday night so not many stores open and kids need to eat early. The restaurant in the hotel only opened at 7pm and no family-friendly options. We ended up getting a sandwich dinner from the train station, but we would have dined at the hotel if it was suitable.

The location was great because it is only a few minutes walk to the train station as well as city center. We took the Bernina Express bus from Tirano to Lugano. From the Lugano bus station, cross the street and walk along the sidewalk towards the train station until you see the ramp that leads to the hotel. The hotel sign is hard to see as it is blocked by overgrown trees. The room we stayed at was not spacious enough for us and our luggages but we didn’t mind it since we stayed there only for one night and it’s a very well maintained and clean hotel. Breakfast was just the typical Swiss breakfast including but not limited to assorted bread, cheeses, bacon, scrambled eggs, cut up fruits.

Location is excellent for tourists. Very near the old town and train station The staff are very friendly The room is an efficiency so it is bigger than a typical hotel room

I did not know the room is off the Hotel property in a seperate location about 200 mters downhill. Had I knew that, I would probably book a different type of room so I can use hotel amenity. FOr that reason, we did not take advantage of the hotel breakfast and resturant, bar.... We were there just in time for Lugano fall festival, It was a fun experience but and late night drunken tourist made loud noise all night....
