Hotel San Carlo is perfectly located with a very short 10 minute walk from the Lugano train station and a very short 1 minute walk (1 block) to the main road, Riva Vincenzo Vela, which runs along Lake Lugano. The room was comfortable and basic with a writing desk and wardrobe. There was no air con but it did come with a large efficient fan which kept the room cooler. Our room overlooked the street in front of the hotel and the room very quiet. We did not hear any of our neighbors and at night the street was very quiet. The check-in person, Salvatore was very friendly, efficient and very helpful to suggest a good restaurant for dinner that was within walking distance. (There are actually a LOT of great restaurants very close and easy walking distance to Hotel San Carlo) The restaurant that Salvatore suggested was a block away right across from the lake shore, Spaghetti Store. Hotel San Carlo does not offer a breakfast option but one does not really need it at the hotel. There are many great places for breakfast, lunch & dinner just a very short walk from the hotel. Overall we would definitely stay at Hotel San Carlo when we return to Lugano in the future.

We really did not have any specific item about Hotel San Carlo that we did not like. The hotel was basic and comfortable and quiet. Even the price was not hugely expensive. Booking.com had a good price for Hotel San Carlo

Good hotel close to the lake. Got a friendly reception when we checked in. We did check-in in advance using the link sent by the hotel, where passports and other information were uploaded beforehand (I believe contactless check-in was available doing this). Rooms were simple, comfortable, and clean. Close to restaurants and a Coop grocery store/shopping centre. Can walk to the train station up the mountain, though this is steep. Better idea to take the bus that takes about ten minutes to get to the train station.

Not actually a problem, but there was a common area with tables that looked like it was being used for storage that would have been nice to be able to use.

We stayed here for 1 night and really liked it. Traveling here is convenient. Not far from the train station. Close to shopping and restaurants The rooms are clean and fully equipped. The staff are welcoming.

The room & the bathroom were very clean. The bed was very comfortable. The location is fantastic, it's right in the center and a 2-minute walk from the Lugano lake. The staff at the reception was extremely friendly and polite. They also printed for us the Ticino ticket which gives you access to free public transport in the area and discounts to some attractions.

The toilet paper in the common bathroom was not sufficient. The hair dryer in the bathroom was not working.

Easily accessible to transport, lake Lugano 1 min walk for a lovely and relaxing stroll around lake Lugano either in early morning or late evening About 150 to 200m to the hotel from funicular stop Citta. The funicular starts from level -1 of Lugano train station near escalators (service starts at 5am+ frequency every 5 min) Lugano tourism provided complimentary transport tickets through the hotel to visit different places (bus, funicular) Coop supermarket right next to the hotel Lots of eateries and restaurants nearby The room was quiet despite being in the city center Room is a bit small but the clever interior design makes the best use of space, e.g. ward robe /toilet cabinet doors are doubled up as mirror Rooms are clean, neat and tidy No aircon but big fan inside the room. Suit us well as the temp was around 14-16C during our stay. Tap water is labelled portable! Staff are friendly and knowledgable There is buffet breakfast option for 15 euro per pax but we didnt use as we wanted to try different local foods during our stay Lift access

Need to request for electric kettle to make hot drinks. There is a step (10-12cm high) at entrance to the building which might be a hurdle for wheelchair user.

The location is awesome. Near to the lake and all facilities. Lots of shops and restaurants.Great for boat trips. This was our second visit.we had a friendly welcome and the continental breakfast was sufficient to start the day

Great location , clean, secure, safe , 1 minute walk to lake , right in the centre of town , 5 min walk from train station, You can get the funicular from the station down to the bottom for $1.30 and avoid the 300m of stairs like I did

It was all good, accepted it was a shared toilet but it was right outside the room door across the hall and only shared with one other room. Never had to wait once.

Patrick at reception was incredibly helpful. I had a fall, and he arranged for ice for the wounds and information for the hospital. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and the room only basic was spotlessly clean. It was a pleasure 🙏 staying there and would certainly return when I am back in Lugano. Thanks to all the staff for their help, kindness, and support during our stay.

Nothing to dislike

Great location with a grocery store next door. Only a few steps from the lake. Everything was great, but the room was a little small, with the sink in the room. The sink dispenser was out of soap. The shower was very nice. The bed was comfortable. Great, helpful staff.

The steps near the elevator are too close and I tripped on them, fortunately not suffering any injury.

Very closeby the tram stop in Via Nassa street. Perfect location right in the heart of the lively gastrobars and stores. Nextdoor to Coop. Receptionist was extremely helpful. Got a free room upgrade to a Suite and she even walked us to our rooms that was about 50metres away and helped with the luggage too. I would say they take their reviews seriosly and have improved based on them. Thank you very much for a pleasant stay Team San Carlo! I’d definitely come back and stay again should I ever visit Lugano.
