Location was good - 2-3mins walk from Edinburgh Waverly. The hotel apartment is modern, clean and luxurious looking. Kitchen in the apartment is well stocked with cutlery, tableware and even cooking utensils - we didn’t cook, but it was nice to have. We extended our stay by a night and stayed in 2 types of apartments. First, “Deluxe apartment with balcony” - was very spacious, clean, comfortable and sound proof - perfect for a couple or 2 adults .. balcony was a nice touch, made the place feel very open. And the 2nd apartment was a “luxury one bedroom with bed alcove” - this was clean & modern too, but I wouldn’t recommend paying extra for the bed alcove apartments as the space is quite squeezed to fit in 2 bedrooms/2 bathroom. We had fresh breakfast everyday with amazing service (we paid for the breakfast included in room booking - go for this if you plan to eat in the hotel, otherwise it’s quite pricey if you pay a la carte). Overall Service is amazing - they have front desk staff who are quick to respond to queries, help bring up any deliveries to the apartment door, and just generally very kind, nice & sweet.
No way to stream anything on TV - no smart tv, no hdmi cable, no Chromecast - basically TVs were pretty useless, unless you want to watch broadcast tv. Modern hotels should minimally have smart TV. Breakfast options are limited (though whatever they have is very delicious) - so if you’re staying beyond 2-3 days, you could get bored. In the “one bedroom apartment with bed alcove” - one of the windows did not shut close, so we had cold wind blowing in the whole night (it was end November so pretty chilly outside). And the dryer (washer dryer) was broken. For the amount of money we paid for this place, I expect maintenance to be better!

Welcoming from the reception, we're very kind, and they even greeted us for our anniversary. As we enter our room, they welcome us with a bottle of prosecco and dark chocolate. A very nice detail from the hotel for our anniversary. The room was not as described as the picture. According to the picture, the bed and bathroom were supposed to be at the second level. The one that was given to me, the bathroom was at the first level and bed in the second level. For my personal interest, I would have liked to have the bathroom on the same level as the picture. The stairs to the second level were a little bit steep and narrow. The bathroom shower had great water pressure, the best I ever had in a hotel. Breakfast is not a buffet. it is a la carte with only five options. It was ok. There was no AC in the room, but it was chill. The location is perfect, next to the Waverly Train station. Staff hotel 10/10 In general, The Cheval could be a great place to stay!

If you're looking for an apartment-style stay in Edinburgh that feels more like a high-end hotel, this is it. We were upgraded to a 2-story room with living area, full kitchen (including a washing machine) and two separate bathrooms. The room was very comfortable and spacious, and the building is run like a hotel with a 24-hour reception. It's located just of St. Andrew's Square, within walking distance of all the main sites in Edinburgh.
There's very little to dislike here. The only thing we didn't love was that the upstairs bathroom (attached to the bedroom) had no doors. No doors to the bathroom, toilet, or even on the shower. Also worth noting that any of the lofted apartments do require climbing some narrow stairs to get to the bedroom.

The location couldn't be more convenient. We took the train in from London and it was just around the corner from the train station, and a short walk or tram ride to everywhere we wanted to go. Our room overlooked the park and was well-appointed. They ended up being able to upgrade our room upon arrival, which was a nice surprise. The whole place has a warm and clean smell that is echoed in the hand soaps in the rooms. We didn't partake in breakfast or dining at the Cheval. Our kiddo loved her alcove room--a loft that overlooked the kitchen and dining area but still afforded her some privacy and space of her own. The staff were welcoming and friendly and answered our few questions. There was coffee and milk in the room, and the kitchen came with everything you'd need to make a quick meal or enjoy some wine or take out.
There were a few minor things that didn't work in our room--the plug next to my bed had options for USB cables but they didn't actually function, and the towel warmer never heated up, etc. The TV only had local stations and wasn't connected to the internet so you couldn't log in to your own Netflix or watch movies if they weren't playing on local TV--they hadn't said that a smart TV was an option so that wasn't broken, just disappointing. You could check out a rice cooker and a wok, but they didn't have board games or cards to check out. It just felt like such a gorgeous space to be in and spend time in as a family, but there wasn't anything to do (and we don't travel with our board games) so that could have been something they provided or offered.

The upgraded apartment waseverything we could have wished for. Well equipped (although we did not use the kitchen other to make hot drinks) and super comfortable. The ambience was quietly luxurious and just what we needed after a full on few months. Location perfect for both shopping and exploring the older parts of the city. Royal mile a short walk away. Staff all fantastic and really friendly. They took time to ask us about our stay and we were made to feel like valued guests. Breakfast was included in our stay and food and service both excellent. Nothing too much trouble and they certainly added to our experience. Will definitely return as still so much to see and do.

We had an issue with the room on arrival as the description and images on Booking.com did not reflect the room we were provided. For example, we booked a room with a desk for remote working and a view, and the room we were provided had no view and only a coffee table. Sabine was wonderful and went above and beyond to ensure we were moved to an appropriate room that we could work from. Thank you Sabine! The location was fantastic. Right next to the station and a short walk to many restaurants, bars and the key attractions. Room had everything we needed including robes, fresh milk and bottled water. The bed was very comfortable.
Breakfast was overpriced and there were only limited options. Drinks and the service charge are applied on top of the meal choice (although this is disclosed ahead of time).

Beautiful hotel right in the heart of Edinburgh but away from the crowds. It's a perfect spot opposite St Andrews square and near Waverely train station. The room was pretty special with an upstairs sitting area and kitchenette with all the necessary equipment if you wished to have a meal in the room. The room was spotless and classy. We loved the Bose system fitted to the wall and the glass balcony.
Breakfast was very good but the seating was a little odd ie we were first offered a two seater with very low seats, but we asked to move to a bench which had better seats. You then faced other couples who were also sat on the bench seats facing you. The room is clearly a relaxed sitting room in the evening then a breakfast room in the morning. The breakfast was good but the staff should make it clear that you can choose 2 items off the menu if breakfast is included. Coffee was very strong. These are all minor points as we would definitely stay at the Cheval again

Wow, the Edinburgh Grand was everything we thought it would be and lots more having often admired it from outside. From the second we arrived on the pavement and were shown in by the lovely doorman to the most awesome welcome ever by Jo & Sam at the desk we were going to love our stay...and we absolutely did. Looking down from the 6th floor over the fabulous spiral of floors is amazing. Our apartment was immaculate, beautifully styled and so very comfortable and had absolutely everything you could need. We are delighted we chose to stay for New Year and as part of our 30th Wedding Anniversary celebrations as it is now a fabulous memory to cherish. Your Staff are up there with the absolute Best and we can't thank them enough for making our welcome & stay very special indeed.

Joe and her team on Reception couldn`t do enough for us in terms of a warm welcome and providing quality information on the hotel facilities as well as surrounding area facilities and services we had intimated an interest in. Most of our itinerary was already booked in advance (Christmas meal and drinks at the Dome), we did however partake of breakfast at the Register club & drinks at Lady Libertine and would highly recommend. Location is perfect for exploring Edinburgh, attractions, shops, bars and restaurants. Our room was well equipped and spotlessly clean.
Would have liked more advance information on room type, layout etc.......we would have preferred to have had a bath in room though shower was powerful and no issues with it.
