The hotel has its charm. The breakfast was very good! Free parking and coffee/tea possibility in a room

The walls are not soundproof The bathroom needs hooks/railings- there is no space to hang the towels. Our room was on the 1st floor towards the street- if you looked down the window you see all rubbish containers and if you open the window you hear and smell staff smoking cigarettes. Not ideal for the price paid :-( I imagine 4-star- experience differently

Location was excellent although it would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues as the hotel is situated up some steep hills. Staff were very friendly and hotel was very clean and well presented. Some nice touches as in toiletries provided in the bathroom and fresh clean towels every day. Room was large and spacious and had a great view over Cork city, we also had a small balcony with a table and chairs to enjoy the view.

A couple of areas in the room required some decorating touch ups. Breakfast was quite basic especially the continental, we had breakfast early the first morning and there was adequate supplies of food however we decided to have breakfast a bit later on the second day and there were items missing that were there the previous day, orange juice was almost empty but no one filled it up, it was very poor. Cooked breakfast was very basic with only scrambled eggs on the buffet choice but no offer of making any other type of egg. I think you could have got a much better breakfast for your money a short walk away in the town.

We had a lovely corner room, very spacious and light and very quiet, even though it overlooked the terrace on one side. Great view over the city as the hotel is on a hill. Very good breakfast including Irish black pudding. We ate here twice, first for a full meal which was very generous - recommend the seafood chowder, second for a selection of light bites as we were getting too well fed! Location is walkable to Cork city centre, if you don't mind a climb back to the hotel. There are a few restaurants and bars nearby, including a great pizzeria.

Parking was a bit of a disaster on arrival as they had a party booked in. Arrive early to get a space Fri/Sat. TV remote didn't work very well.

This is a beautiful old building, it has beautiful high ceilings, beautiful out look over the city. It’s very quiet, clean and nicely decorated. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

The only problem for me with this hotel (because of my age and mobility) was the location. It is on a very, very steep hill which is a problem if you’re not driving. This would not be a problem if your driving, are fit or young but avoid if you haven’t got the stamina for very steep hills. The silver lining to the very steep hill is beautiful views over the city and a very quiet hotel, no traffic or people noise.

Lovely hotel. The terrace, reception and bar areas are fab. The food was good and the staff were friendly and lovely.

I stayed in a bedroom on the top floor, at the back of the hotel. Very unusual room layout (the door opens into the bathroom area), which has a separate toilet but the door of the toilet doesn’t open back fully. Despite the room having a big window, I had to stand on my tiptoes to see out the window and, unfortunately, the view from the room is very disappointing/unpleasant. Also, the floor I stayed on would not be suitable for everyone as you have to take the lift to the second floor and then climb a flight of stairs to reach the top floor.

Fantastic view, some of the best you can get of the city, close to historical sites like Griffiths college, walks down and up is enjoyable and very close to city centre. Showers are nice. The room is very clean, and the misses highly recommends the bath robes and presseco. The decor is brilliant, used to be an old TB hospital in the prior century, and its history and decoration pass on the feeling of great history

Breakfast was only okay, very small rang but quality was good, and some goods that ran out were not restocked. Only thing out of the hotels control that others should note, being an former military and a TB hospital means it is high above the smells of the city, meaning it is up some serious hills that only a fitness instructor could create, those with limited mobility and disabilities be very carful walking, your best bet is too drive or get taxis if possible when coming up. Or run the risk of a struggle, especially if your coming from late night activities

Beautiful, clean and stylish hotel. Very grand old hotel but beautifully decorated to fit the grand hotel style. Bar was stylish and welcoming and the food was divine. Really enjoyed our meal and very good value for money with regards to the food. Reception staff were very welcoming and accommoding. The room was massive and spotless and when we requested the hearing be turned on it was no problem. Highly recommend.

The location is a little out of the way in regards to town but wouldn't stop us returning again as taxis were very reasonable.

A stunning location with amazing views over Cork City from the room's balcony. The huge room was warm and comfortable with all the facilities required. The food for breakfast and dinner in the wonderfully decorated North Restaurant was superb with an excellent range of choices on the menu. Although not in the city centre and on a hill it was close enough to walk and the area was quiet. When our pre-booked taxi didn't turn up on the morning of our Ring of Kerry coach tour with Paddywagon, Megan on Reception contacted both the taxi and tour company on our behalf and Stephanie drove us in her own car to ensure that we made it to the coach before it left. We can't thank them enough as they rescued the situation and gave us a day which proved to be such a memorable experience. All the staff were extremely helpful and very friendly and made us feel so welcome. We look forward to returning in the future.

The room was amazing and the hotel was situated in a beautiful location overlooking Cork. The bar was wonderful too very reasonably priced and the staff are a credit to you

The breakfast. On our first morning we had to pre book our time slot. When we arrived we were not informed about the cereal, toast, fruit etc section and had to wait for 10 minutes for bacon, sausages -and hash browns. The breakfast was very mediocre for the pice of the room and all standard food. We discovered on the second morning you could ask for a poached egg. Different staff on the Sunday morning very professional, food available and everything explained to us on arrival so made up for the poor effort on the Saturday morning.

I can’t recommend this hotel enough, but main attraction for this hotel for us is Don, the night porter/barman/receptionist. We stayed here last year couldn’t wait to return to visit him again & after speaking to locals in the city Centre it seems Don is quite the local celeb. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, especially for the festive season where it is decorated throughout. The rooms are modern, spotlessly clean and have everything you need without having to pay extra to hire such as an iron and ironing board and a salon quality hairdryer. The majority of staff are fabulous with nothing being too much trouble, from allowing us to check in early when arriving at 8am, to booking taxis as and when needed and so on

The breakfast one morning was poor, the food warmers weren’t turned on, bread, plates nor water had been replenished. It was different staff that were working compared to our previous visits and the service showed that. Besides that though the food was lovely and I would again book bed & breakfast as it was definitely worth the money
