Hotel Penaga is a beautiful property that has been lovingly and elegantly restored. Our room was simply one of the most beautiful rooms I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world. The atmosphere in the hotel is calm and the staff are helpful. It is extremely clean. The bathroom had a bath and a shower, both with funky settings and jet streams. It has a lovely little shady garden. It’s in a great position for exploring George Town.

The air con in our room wasn’t particularly efficient and the room wasn’t cool enough as a result. The vegetarian option at breakfast was limited to an omelette and some fruit. There were some fried pieces of some description which were not particularly appetising. Breakfast doesn’t start until 8am which meant we were unable to have breakfast before leaving for an early transfer.

- Hotel was beautiful - reception, dining room, bedroom, corridor etc. Loved the wallpaper, furniture and decorations! - Decor in the room was (mostly) beautiful and made for such a unique stay. Loved the art nouveau glass and wooden shutters. Four poster bed was beautiful too. - Bath had a jacuzzi function which was lovely! - Balcony was super cute and nice to relax on in the mornings. - Breakfast times were long, food options were varied and tasty (probably limited if you're vegan though). - Location was great for walking around town. - Staff were very friendly. :)

- Personal preference and only a little thing but some of the decor wasn't to my taste as it didn't seem to fit in with the rest (red leather sofa in beautiful heritage bedroom and fur 'tiled' rug). - While the bed linen and towels were fine some of the other soft furnishings (like the cushions) needed a wash as they smelled unpleasant. - I know this can't be helped but the walls are a bit thin and so we were woken up a few times in the night by guests above us and traffic.

Love their jacuzzi.

Should replace the shampoo and body wash with new as the shampoo and body wash have bad smell. Difficult to find parking.

It is a superb location near lots of attractions, it is within walking distance and even taking a cab/grab it is reasonable pricing. The hotel's design is honestly cool and rich in culture. The staff is helpful and the breakfast in the morning is pleasant as well.

1) Wifi was poor - maybe because we stayed on the Clarke terrace so 2nd floor wifi was bad, on-off wifi. However, the Wi-Fi on the first floor is okay. 2) Mosquitos. I did not get bitten but my family members did. Again, it is subjective as it is a tropical place with many plantations so do bring some mosquito repellent along, no biggie.

- Location of the hotel houses is such that they directly open onto a busy street. The main hotel is across the road from the house suites. - Some small modifications could be made to be in line with modern requirements. E.g. The front door has a single lock only, which considering it opens onto a busy street with passersby walking directly past, seems insufficient (most modern hotel rooms have 2-3 locks on the front door even if they are actually inside a hotel); the windows do not have flyscreens to prevent insects coming in; lighting could be increased in the front room

Overall experience in this hotel is brilliant! Really like the 2 bedroom suite as it was suitable for my parents, my sis and me. There are 2 separate bedrooms, 2 toilets and a small living room area within the room (Room H01). The location is also convenient to go the various places and near famous eateries. Breakfast also quite a good selection.

On 12th April 2024 we wanted our room to be cleaned but only one bedroom was cleaned, not the 2nd bedroom (the one with queen bed). Rubbish was not thrown away in the living room area. Other days that we stayed were ok. Just to note the hotel is near to a bar which had loud music at night but it does end around midnight.

Beautiful room with great view for sunset! Close to a busy street, but quiet at night as most shops are closed. Room is equipped with basic needs and almost perfect. Public parking space might be full if you arrive late, and you have to pay for the parking through the app.

The jacuzzi tub is dirty. The moment we turn on the jacuzzi switch, a black sediment came out. The jacuzzi wasn’t working. So I end up had to empty the whole tub and refill again, and used it just as normal bathtub. I wish it was working.

Fantastic room with gorgeous styling! The mattress was super comfy. Location is pretty good, very easy to walk (if you don't mind being sweaty) to lots of places - street food, Little India, Blue Mansion, supermarkets nearby, etc. There is a required 'Heritage tax' to stay in a place like this, and it's worth every cent. Just gorgeous. Jacuzzi was very clean, and very relaxing after a long day of walking.

WiFi is spotty at best, nonexistent at worst. There are many WiFi extenders placed around the hotel, but they don't do what they're meant to. The hotel is mindful of their climate impact, asking guests to not put their towels in for cleaning if not required, etc. I love this approach, and it is very important to me, but having the fan AND aircon turn off when leaving the room made for hot evenings, working the aircon in over-time to cool the room down enough to sleep. The water from the taps is also warm, so cool showers also out of the picture. Sits on two one-way streets, so taxi/Grab charges more for pick-up/drop-off in these areas.

Resort feeling at the middle of the city. Our back balcony have a trees or garden view. Our front balcony have city view. The room is spacious with baba nyonya design including the cabinet. It is beautiful. And the location is superb. You can walk to many place of attraction and foods.

Some room doesnt have lift access (not suibtanble for ederly). You need to call them first if you need lift.

Great location, walkable to a lot of the popular restaurants we intended to visit and within a short driving distance to others. The place is super spacious, tastefully furnished and had all necessary amenities and more (fridge, water dispenser, etc). Loved the showers. Staff were friendly and very accomodating. Very convenient.

Very noisy as it was right by the main road, especially when we’re hanging out at the living room. No aircond in the living room. The bedrooms are bare – no mirrors or wardrobes, but there is a separate room to get ready in. No hangers in the closet room and no hooks to hang towel/clothes in bathroom.
