Staff were very welcoming and we were totally surprised when we arrived earlier than check in time expecting to leave our luggage but they told us the room was ready. Also for some reason we had been allocated an accessible room which we did not need so when asked if we would give that up for a standard room which we were happy to do, the staff gave us an upgraded room overlooking the park. What a lovely gesture.

Not having a blanket in the room automatically (very cold for Perth people) and having to ask for one. It was no trouble for the staff to bring us one but generally there is a blanket on standby. Also (I did report this to the staff) on two nights there was someone smoking in the vicinity (maybe on the rooms either side of us) and the smell of tobacco smoke pervaded into our room. 525

Staff were fantastic - our flight was delayed a day due to a massive storm, but the overnight desk staff reassured me and set aside our room keys so that we were able to check in quickly the next morning. The parking is super secure and convenient. The room was very comfortable and housekeeping were great about changing towels, cleaning up or leaving us be as needed. The breakfast buffet was convenient, and staff can provide gluten free options and alternative milks for no additional charge.

We didn't love the bathroom - it stayed a bit musty after use, and the shower temperature jumped wildly from minute to minute. It wasn't a major inconvenience and may have just been our room. The breakfast buffet was a little limited and repetitive but again, not a major inconvenience.

Easy to charge devices as power points were accessible at the right height and there were enough of them. Clean, well looked after and had all the facilities we liked especially the ground floor dining and lounge area where we breakfasted in the morning and had drinks and dinner in the evenings. Happy hour, the drinks available for it and the staff looking after us were great. Morning breakfast was good, especially the self serve coffee.

The bathroom was not well isolated from the bedroom so in the middle of the night if one of us went to the bathroom and switched on the light, the other person would wake up from the lights and noise.

Loved the express service at check in and staff were so courteous at all times and very informative. We had free parking with our package too normally $20 p/n accessible through the main lifts to lobby and room. Can also park on the road or outside reception if available. Buffett breakfast was brilliant. Hot and cold selection. Coffee/tea/filtered water station available all day. King Room with city view was fantastic, just enough space for two but there is an option for floor space. Blackout curtains too, almost slept in both days lol Very clean and immaculate throughout the hotel. Supermarkets and mall x2 across the road and 5min drive to Nobbys beach/lighthouse and 10min walk to marina.

The gym was small and not enough room to stretch. Both times we were there, different times of the day it was full. Can only fit 5-6 people max.

Perfect location for a stay in Newcastle. Staff were very engaging, happy and helpful. Room was quiet and bed very comfortable. Breakfast was included in the room price however, we were leaving very early the next day so could not stay for seated breakfast. The staff then prepared a breakfast box to take away, which was absolutely wonderful! Staff even had treats for Easter! Car parking was easy. an additional cost but well worth it or there is also parking close to front door.

We loved everything. We have stayed here before and it continues to be a great place to stay.

The location worked well for us. Within. walking distance to where we wanted to go out. Parking was also included in the room rate, which was a bonus. The hotel was quiet, and the beds were comfortable. Check-in was easy, the staff were great, and Riley on the front desk was very friendly and gave us valuable information.

The breakfast buffet was less than stellar. The bacon was fine, but the frittata was a clear miss, and the potato wedges (for breakfast?) were cold. Coffee was drinkable but with one machine out of order, the wait was excessive.

Great access and secure parking in a convenient location. 24hr reception with welcoming, helpful staff and bar for a quiet drink after a long day. Clean modern room with everything you need and nothing you don’t. There was enough of everything, but more if needed. I loved the blackout curtains and the usb port beside the bed. The selection of pillows and ample flat surfaces.

The room was a little warm when I arrived on a hot afternoon and the AC slow to cool. The shower pressure could be a little better but I thought it may be lower so not to disturb neighbours.

This place is quite close to the Newcastle Interchange where you can enter Newcastle by train from Sydney and get to places from there by lightrail. The hotel is modern, clean and with bar service till midnight. The staff is of the friendliest you can think of. So great compliments to them !!

We had room 434 which is equipped for disabled guest (which we not are) and for the bathroom we would have liked it more not to have a shower curtain in that room. The room was also connected with a door (that’s locked) to the next room. That door isn’t sound proof and (not the best) noise from neighbouring guests can get quite disturbing. So try to avoid getting room 434 or a similar kind of room.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Express. It was very quiet, central location and the in-house car park ($20 per day) was a plus too. The breakfast starts early at 6.30 am, which suits me very well when on a business trip. We also loved the bathroom with the shower, very great idea to have the bathroom door as shower door! The space feels bigger and lighter! Very cool!

As I am a breakfast aficionado and especially enjoy savory breakfast, I wish there would be maybe cheese, avocado or spreads and hummus, fresh cucumber or tomatoes, and maybe boiled eggs or fried eggs one day.

I was pleasantly surprised after being miffed about having to pay $20 a day for parking. The staff at the “reception”/bar/dining is very efficient, pleasant and accommodating. I was also surprised that the breakfast that came with the room was actually very nice. You had a choice of cereals, fruit, juice followed by a hot meal of scrambled eggs and bacon, some mornings baked beans and a selection of bread for toasts. The room may be a tad small but I didn’t mind it.
