Exceptionally clean, renovated room with a comfy bed, parking, in a quiet location. Budget queen room is very small but well laid out and equipped. Friendly staff. Reception happy to provide plates cutlery etc for you to microwave food in your room. This is great as otherwise it's a drive to get dinner. Reception also sells a selection of frozen meals and snacks.

Very strong air freshener smell in the room. Not pleasant if you're sensitive to artificial fragrances. Had to leave door and window open until it dispersed.

I chose this motel for its reasonable pricing and good public transport links to and from the airport and city. The motel also provides a free shuttle to the airport (but not from the airport). Check in was quick and easy and the room had pretty much everything one would need for a stay of 1-2 nights. However due to the compact nature of the room and dearth of workspaces, it was a little awkward to use some of the equipment, such as the microwave. However, everything worked well and the large bed was comfortable. The TV was large and provided a wide range of streaming and free to air channels. Ample supplies of complimentary tea, coffee and milk were also provided. Crockery, cutlery, etc was available from Reception, on request.

The room was perhaps just a little too compact to comfortably use the comprehensive range of items provided. Not a major issue for me (particularly as I'm not a large person), but might be more of an issue for a couple. Of course, this was an Economy room, and other types of room at the motel would be larger. I'd also suggest that it would be useful to have a table lamp and power point on the left hand side of the bed (there is one on the right)

Our host was amazing , so friendly and happy to give us some tips for places to visit that we didnt know about ..he couldnt do enough to make our stsy enjoyable .Nice and spacious rooms ,lovley and clean ,the most comfortable bed we have stayed in yet .Close to Newcastle yet far enough away from traffic and the city .The toiletries smelt amazing so much so i had to have another shower in the morning to wash my hair with it again .We were even given free breakfast because of a room change diue to last ppl flooding the bathrom .He so didnt have to but we appreciated it .We cant wait to come back soon .Thankyou so much

I love the staff. She is so friendly, sweet and her service is exceptional. The room is great, i love the room. I like the fact that at night, we can see a lot of starry stars and it was so beautiful. The price is very reasonable and affordable with the room and services provided.

I just less like on the location as it is quite hard to get uber or public transport. But i understand the location purpose as i think it is more suitable for people who have car and to go to airport. But everything was great.

A nice quiet location backing onto the Newcastle golf course. I appreciated the small gestures. I had messaged the property late at night on my first night advising I am deaf and felt safer with a deadbolt, my room didn't have one at the time. In the morning the owner kindly approached me as my child and I were leaving and advised they were going to be adding a dead bolt to my room, which was there when I came back from a morning out.

I wish I had researched the location and distance from food outlets before we checked in, after a huge day of travelling I had tried to menu-log some food but limited options. However, on the second night, I found there was a great restaurant nearby (tigers club). If you are a tall or bigger person, you may have some issues with the toilet to wall width. I am 165cm and found my knees almost touched the wall as I attended to my business. I am not sure if the other rooms have bigger bathrooms, however I suggest you check before booking that you have access to a wider bathroom if needed.

Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. It was great to have a few breakfast options offered to us ... we chose bacon and eggs, which arrived on time and were good and plentiful. The king-sized bed was very comfortable. Although we were in a front room, we found no issue with traffic noise at all. It was also great to be provided with a means to have our drinking bottles recycled by the motel staff. We drove from Sydney and were attending a function at Stockton, so location was perfect.

The shower had no screen or curtain and was quite small. This meant that it was impossible to have a shower without getting water across most of the bathroom floor. A shame really, because the water supply was hot and strong.

The rooms were very modern, clean and fresh. Also very comfortable. The beds were so soft and comfy - the best we have had this whole trip (AH BEARD). I travel with a single mattress topper (so inconvenient, so we don't travel as much now). Also, all the lights worked. Believe me when I say it's a first. We travelled for 24 days, and this was the only place where all the lights worked - yeh!! We liked this place a lot. The motel has a lot of stairs - I mean ALOT. There were even more stairs in our room. It was on 2 levels. We had quite a bit of a problem getting our gear into the room. Despite requesting limited stairs, we were given the one with the most. (Should have booked the disability room, as we do have a sticker.) But if you are fit and not mobility impaired (as we were), there was a great view from your front verandah, with chairs and table to enjoy a drink. It really is a stylish place to stay. Oh, I almost forgot, they have meals for you to heat up in your microwave - restaurant was closed due to no chef. There was a great selection as well, including desert. Unfortunately, we had already bought our frozen meal for the night (pity that). The prices were reasonable as well. Now, this would be a great trend to encourage.

One thing that annoyed me, though, was the lack of "Face washers". This is the 2nd time we have come across this. There was a note on the piece of paper that we were handed, but of course, we waited until we got to our room to read it. And there it was, "will be provided upon request". Well, we were not about to march back down to reception and get them. I can't understand people providing " Bodywash" and not having washers to go with them. I am certainly not going to carry around a wet cloth in a plastic bag just to use their bodywash. Imagine the smell after a few days. Ughh.. no, it's back to good old soap for me. Apparently, it is becoming a thing now a days. This is one trend that needs to stop.

The bedroom and the bathroom was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The location, although on a main road, was very quiet. The kitchenette was very handy. Great aircon.

The room was very small. There was only enough space for the bed, two small bedside tables with only one lamp and a small table with one chair. There was a table and two chairs outside on the verandah.

Fern bay motel is a comfortable restful place. Happy with motel and staff. Not happy with booking.com as the 30th Jan was not the date I booked for, an error happened at the booking end and the wrong date was forward to Fern Bay Motel, I am very annoyed that I had to pay twice, once for the night that I did not book and for the original booking, I think it is up to booking .com to come to the pay and reimburse me for the night of 30th Jan which was the incorrect date. I have tried sending you an email to booking.com and it comes back to me, why have an email address you can't use.

Nothing wrong with the accommodation, the problem is with Booking.com. I don't feel like a valued customer

Last minute late-night booking when our flight was cancelled, with our children (family of 5). Motel owner offered to pick us up in their van (we already had a taxi), and dropped us to the airport early in the morning so we could make the next flight. They did not charge us for the service. Beds were extremely comfortable and had enough beds for 5 of us in the family room, phew! Price was very reasonable.
