I came to scarborough for the week to watch cricket and I can honestly say that I struck gold in finding the Black Swan HOTEL. My room was clean and spacious with the bed being extremely comfortable. But what made the stay so special was the hotel rep Damion and his staff Serena and Alfie. They were all so friendly and welcoming, making every evening in the bar a fun filled experience. Perfectly located, the bar itself was always busy with locals and tourists (and ex professional cricketers) who, along with a pool night, quiz night and karaoke night all contributed to provide the perfect, authentic pub atmosphere. If you're looking for a great place to stay in Scarborough look no further than the Black Swan..... I highly recommend.

All the staff were so friendly. Alfie greeted us and showed us to our room. He was such a kind, polite, and very welcoming gentleman. Our rooms were very spacious, and the hotel is in a great location. I would stay there again, but I would definitely request a room on a ground level.

The floors were quite creaky, and unfortunately, we had a complaint from the people staying below us saying we were banging about. Alfie was very professional and extremely kind when telling us, as this is a regular complaint, and we didn't feel uncomfortable at all with him, making us aware of the complaint which he had received. But it did make us very conscious of walking around, which was a pain, especially when you have 2 small children.

The decor and furnishings in the rooms were lovely. Both en-suite and had tea and coffee making facilities. The floor was a tad dusty though. There was a kitchen area in one of our rooms, with fridge, oven but no kitchen table so would have to sit on the bed to eat if you are self catering. Overall a good room at a reasonable price and Damian was very welcoming. Thank you

Just to note these rooms are above a pub so you will get noise from downstairs and the beer garden. We stayed on a Friday so was a bit noisy as they had a singer on until 12:30am but were not concerned with this. We had been to a concert so we were buzzing. However, this might annoy others who like to have an early night. I’m sure it will be quieter mid week but bear this in mind if staying on a weekend

I stayed over on Monday evening. Alfie the staff member who greeted me made me feel extremely welcome and comfortable,so much so I felt happy enough to sit on my own in the bar area along with the friendly locals, as a solo female traveller this was a lovely experience. The room was lovely, newly decorated, it had everything you need, and the comfiest bed ever, the best nights sleep I've had in months. It's excellent value for money too. Perfect place to stay for a little trip to the seaside. Fabulous little find. I will be definitely returning again

It was very clean and all the staff were very kind and welcoming. Lovely and close to everything we needed and good value for money. The room was amazingly spacious and private being on the top floor. Cannot recommend the staff more highly, nothing was too much trouble & we were very accommodated with a toddler too. The room was clean & plenty of tea/coffee making facilities for in the morning.

My only improvements were that the shower didn’t get warm enough for us and ended up being a luke warm one. We bathed our toddler and the plug didn’t seal very well, after 5 mins she was paddling 🤣 not complaints per say! It was early so we didn’t ask for any assistance but I’ve a feeling we would have been accommodated if we’d have asked.

The Black Swan is a "Pub with Rooms" rather than a "Hotel", so no food or breakfast, which suited me just fine as I prefer to breakast later, and invariably arrived back after eating. Comfy bed, decent shower. It's a "locals" pub, not a "tourists" pub, with everyone knowing each other, and good atmosphere, and very welcoming, spending all the four evenings I stayed there chatting with the locals, barman (Alfie) landlord (Damian), and playing pool. Great place to relax after hard day's of coastal walking. About 10 mins walk from the railway station and buses, so a good base for getting to places along the coast too.

Bedside lamp would have been useful, but beside that everything was fine.

Hosts were lovely and very welcoming. Sweets and snacks on arrival after a long journey for the kids was a bonus! Felt well looked after.

The toilet seat was loose and wobbly, it fell off twice on me and I had to fix back on. When I went to fix back on I noticed quite a bit of grime and debris under the toilet seat. I forgot to feed back as I left. Otherwise it was an amazing stay, hosts were amazing and treated my family very well. We would definitely come back :)

The staff were welcoming they carried our small cases up to the room. Bathroom was clean and roomy, plenty of towels. Beds were comfortable and we had tv though we didn't watch it. It was a 10 minute walk to the harbour which was great as we were planning to walk a lot. We were directed to a 24 hour car park just a few minutes away. We knew there was no breakfast but not far away was a very cheap and very good café. A few locals in the pub were very welcoming. When we ran out of tea, coffee etc extra was quickly provided. We were very impressed at the facilities for a low budget price. Much better than we expected.

We were extremely happy with our stay. The thing I found difficult (this is just a personal thing as my two friends had no problems) was the narrow and steep second flight of stairs. I have menieres disease which affects my balance so I felt rather anxious but my friends made sure I was safe. I'm sure if we had opted for a slightly more expensive room on a lower floor we could have done so.

•Excellent location 15 mins walk to open air theatre, the purpose of our visit to Scarbados, and less to the seafront etc. •great staff, especially Sam behind the bar who had great knowledge about the local area and made fan recommendations of where to eat etc. •fab links with other local businesses, taxi arranged by the bar man working on the day (another credit to the Swan) arrived within seconds would have been waiting ages otherwise given our stay was in peak time. •excellent value for money, room was clean and had all we needed (including a fridge for the lucozade to stay cool for the morning after!!), bed was very comfy and sky TV. •great atmosphere in the pub on return after our night out!

Good central location. Staff very welcoming and friendly (one lady said she was cleaner and was a little abrupt, appeared more as a punter of the pub rather than staff). Barman was very welcoming and friendly. Rooms spacious and very clean.

Lady who claimed to be staff was very abrupt and made us feel a little uncomfortable. Toilet roll holder and seat were broken but didn’t affect our stay. Towels a little small, could have done with a couple more.
