Staff were awesome. Good room.

Only thing I can fault is the banging of doors at night which s to be expected. If the doors could shut with less noise that would be great.

The accommodation is very close to the tram station and the bed is very suitable for private relaxation. Needless to say that all of the staff were friendly.

Any inconvenience I experienced was due to other guests. Perhaps they are backpackers living there for a long time. They had no respect for anyone else's time. Unfortunately, the facilities in the hostel are old and I had to lie on the bed and listen to them stomp and slam doors all night long. In fact, I should have run away from there on the first day after seeing other people's stuff are like lubbish strewn on the floor. However, since I only slept in the hostel, I managed to bear it.

For over a week, this place truly felt like my home away from home. Despite being a big hostel with lots of people, the bathrooms and showers are always clean, and there’s always toilet paper, something that is crucial for a pleasant stay. The kitchen is spacious and invites to cook and enjoy proper meals. They provide three large fridges in which you can store your food. The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of St Kilda. You have a Woolies just a minute away, a tram station that gets you to the city center in 20 minutes, and stunning beachside sunsets only a 10-minute walk away. There are a few gyms around, nice coffee shops and restaurants. Also Albert Park, which is amazing for a morning job and see the skyline of the city. What makes this place even more special is the community vibe. They organize daily activities that bring people together from all over the world, offering a chance to connect, share experiences, and even enjoy free wine, beer, and food! Be sure to join the Whatsapp group upon check-in so you don’t miss out on anything. Special shoutout to Miguel and Ana, two incredible souls who made my stay truly unforgettable. Thank you Roamer for such a warm and welcoming arrival in Melbourne!

At the end of the day, it’s a hostel, which means sharing a room with others. We can’t control the circumstances that bring different people to a hostel, but as backpackers, we can all be more mindful of the shared space. Keeping things organized, being considerate of personal hygiene (there are plenty of showers available!), and even sleeping on your side to reduce snoring can make a big difference for everyone. Luckily, the hostel provides earplugs, just in case one of your roommates has loudly night sounds.

I had a fantastic stay at St Kilda Hostel. What really made the experience special was Jose — an absolute legend. His hospitality, genuine warmth, and friendly spirit created an atmosphere that felt more like staying with mates than at a hostel. He went above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and looked after. The place itself is clean, social, and full of good vibes — but it's the people, especially Jose, and Andrew who make it unforgettable. Highly recommend for solo travellers, backpackers, or anyone looking for a friendly, laid-back base in Melbourne.

This place is really stylishly furnished and the staff is very welcoming. There is plenty of room to socialise and the rooms are very spacious. The bathroom was clean and the showers very comfortable. It’s located only 10mins walk to the supermarket and 5mins to public transport. I really appreciated the storage right by the bed even though I hit me knees quite a few times on the edge of the shelf.

The bed was a little worn down with loose wooden tiles and a damaged USB outlet. The area is a little odd with some strange people around at times. I was a little unlucky sharing the room with a long-term resident who spread her stuff all over the room leaving little space for others. This is no fault by the hostel, but maybe they could arrange rooms especially for people staying long-term with some more storage room.

It is more of a hostel than a hotel but it’s not a party hostel which is nice! We are a couple in our 30s and stayed in a private room for a cheapish break on our road trip. The staff and everyone staying there are really friendly. It’s got a really chilled welcoming vibe for everyone. The age range mixed from people in their 20s to people in their 60s. Many people are heading to work from the hotel. There is plenty of space to work, chill, play pool, watch TV etc. so it doesn’t feel cramped or like you living on top of people. Our room was comfy and clean. We really enjoyed this stay.

The kitchen could be a little dirty or messy as it’s well used. There isn’t much worktop space in the kitchen so at busy times you’d have to wait until it emptied.

The bunk beds have way more quality than bunk beds in other hostels : it moves slightly when the person above/below moves but not dramatically like other cheap beds. The lively places are not on the same floor as the bedrooms, so we dont hear too much of the bar or the living room franzy. The bathrooms were okay : I appreciated the female only bathrooms at both ends of the hallway. I bumped into the pilates class on the rooftop and joined : the workout was really thorough, I loved it ! The reception hosts were all very friendly and helpful, thank you again ! The bracelet/card is a really good idea too.

The doors all close magnetically in a very loud noise, so you hear your own door but also other room's door closing. I recommend earplugs. The bathrooms were not very clean (showers).

We're a couple of oldies - mid to late 60s - but age didn't matter. Lovely young people running the place, and didn't see anyone over 35 staying there. All polite and friendly. Quiet, well run, clean, bright, airy and secure - we had a room with a private bathroom but next time would opt for a shared bathroom. Great eating places nearby. Public transport within a stone's throw. Only warning for other older humans....there are flights of stairs so if your knees aren't what they used to be, then maybesee if there's a ground room floor available. Will stay again.

I never like the little milk thingies and there's never enough of them, but I'm being picky.

We stayed in the private room and the bed was extremely comfortable. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. The book exchange shelves were fully stocked and had lots of great books on them (my favourite part of hostels). The bar has happy hour 5-7pm with really cheap pints.

Our room wasn’t actually finished when we entered, with cleaning bottles on the side, maybe somebody left and forgot about it, but the bed was made so didn’t bother us too much. Often the toilets were dirty or blocked, it seems like an old building so maybe the plumbing isn’t great. Small kitchen and the sink was constantly filled with dirty dishes & all the tea towels were soaking wet.
