The Scandic Kallio is wonderfully located: it's a great neigbourhood, well setup for public transport and walking distance to parks and city centre. The room was basic but reasonably well appointed and I appreciated the refrigerator. There's also a sauna in the building that is well maintained and was wonderful to have available (even if it's only available for two-hours each day). The staff when checking in were lovely.

What would help elevate the stay would be: 1) a kettle in the room (particularly during cold weather times); 2) a sauna available for more than 2 hours per day and which came with clear protocols for hotel guests; 3) perhaps greater attention to cleaning the room during the stay: apart from emptying the rubbish, little else was done although the cleanliness when I arrived indicated they do more in between guests. Also useful would be clearer direction for the door to use for entry, particularly as one must ring the bell and it was uncertain if that was for the seeming office building or the hotel.

Very easy to reach other locations in Helsinki via the nearby station "Urheilutalo"; super clean; separate trash bins for different types of trash; tasty tap water; near to a laundromat ("Kallion Itsepalvelupesula Avoin Yhtiö").

Nearest metro station "Sörnäinen" is sketchy at best; due to the size of Helsinki, you'll need to spend money on an AB / ABC ticket if you want to see much of the city, some things are just too far away to walk if you want some time at a different place (still a very walkable city, though, just big).

Unassuming from the front, Scandic Kallio was a nice surprise on entering the cozy lobby. The front desk staff were very friendly. The room I chose was small but had everything needed for a short stay, with a small chaise by the window and a shower cabin in the bathroom (no desk in my room, I think the chaise+cabinet served as the desk). Airco in the room worked well. One place where this hotel stands out was the breakfast, which had a great spread of sweet and savory options in a pleasant dining space with lots of morning light. The city center is about a half hour walk and if you take a small detour you can take your walk along the promenade. There are also tram stops very close by so lots of transit options.

As mentioned by a few other reviewers, the rooms could be better soundproofed; if you are worried about noisy neighbors in other rooms, especially on weekend nights, I recommend bringing earplugs or headphones just in case.

Oona the receptionist was super friendly, very polite, very professional and provided excellent service. The breakfast was delicious, only the space fills very tight and it's usually very crowded... The staff was overall excellent and worked very hard! Many thanks for your service! We will definitely come back again, and we will recommend.

The breakfast area is very small, and always fill so crowded...so e people were frustrated for finding a place to eat but fortunately the staff was very helpful showing the other tables near the desk were they could enjoy their breakfast. It would be nice to have some renovation in the breakfast area and to make it bigger in space...also a jacuzzi or a pool, why not?

It was kind of away from everything but it was close to a pharmacy and a cafe, a burger place too. It also had a sauna which i got to use on the night before my departure because of its limited timeframe that could have been used. Breakfast included was nice, only took advantage of that option the morning before i was set to leave, because i don't usually have options like these in general and i fully forgot this was available.

The room was nice and big enough, the only thing i didn't agree with was the musty smell in there, but overall it was a nice stay.

I booked a windowless room but later was given a very good room with a window and on the top floor. I was impressed by the size of the room, very spacious and it had everything I need for a hotel of this caliber. Breakfast with a good selection was included. What for me is very nice is that the bathrooms are equipped with a bidet and that the room has a safe box. On top of that I think it's insane value that they offer a sauna that is free-to-use for guests on the top floor. The hotel is also conveniently located very close to Urheilutalo (Idrottshuset) tram stop served by lines 2 and 4 as well. Overall, very good value for money for that level of service, offered by such a renowned chain (Scandic) in Helsinki. Would definitely stay here again the next time I go to Helsinki.

An electric water kettle would be a good addition.

Room was clean and had everything I needed, and more. There was not only a bed but also a small sofa, a large window and even an extra pillow available on the shelf. Luggage storage was also available. Air conditioning was very efficient and adjustable.

The place was quiet and calm, but the pipes were surprisingly loud and I woke up at 4am to someone taking a shower. Also the breakfast didn't have as many dairy free/vegan options as other Scandic hotels I've visited previously. Quite a bit of gluten free was available though.

Accomodation was good, hotel was situated in good location, tram station was right under the windows. Fortunately there were no sounds from outside. I consider blackout curtains as a great plus during the bright summer nights. Staff was very friendly, nice and helpful, they even let us check-in 1 hour sooner. Breakfast was great and tasty with many options. I noticed they also offered vegan and gluten free options. Good place to stay for a reasonable price, I would recommend staying there

Good location next to public transport stops. Very comfortable bed. TV worked well and the view out of my room was nice. Breakfast was great! Staff was very friendly and talkative.

Was a bit disappointed that the room didn’t have a fridge or a water boiler. There must have been some sort of junior football tournament going on because in the morning the lobbies were full of children who were quite loud. Not the hotel’s problem of course, just a thing I found mildly annoying personally.

We were very happy with our choice to stay at this hotel. The room was relatively small, but you don't spend that much time there. After initially getting a double bed, we were able to switch to 2 separate beds - as I had requested when booking. Contrary to my expectations and what I had read, you could turn off the air conditioning and open the window a little, which is a big plus for me. The location is great. It's a 15-20 minute tram ride into the center, but Kallio is a great neighborhood with lots of restaurants and is very nice and relaxed. We liked the breakfast the most. The selection was very large and varied and there was a special corner for gluten-free and vegan products.

When we arrived, the trash can in the bathroom had not been emptied and there were a few crumbs on the chair and floor. The breakfast room is not that big. If the hotel is full, it is a bit cramped and you might not be able to get a seat right away.
