Unassuming from the front, Scandic Kallio was a nice surprise on entering the cozy lobby. The front desk staff were very friendly. The room I chose was small but had everything needed for a short stay, with a small chaise by the window and a shower cabin in the bathroom (no desk in my room, I think the chaise+cabinet served as the desk). Airco in the room worked well. One place where this hotel stands out was the breakfast, which had a great spread of sweet and savory options in a pleasant dining space with lots of morning light. The city center is about a half hour walk and if you take a small detour you can take your walk along the promenade. There are also tram stops very close by so lots of transit options.

As mentioned by a few other reviewers, the rooms could be better soundproofed; if you are worried about noisy neighbors in other rooms, especially on weekend nights, I recommend bringing earplugs or headphones just in case.

Oona the receptionist was super friendly, very polite, very professional and provided excellent service. The breakfast was delicious, only the space fills very tight and it's usually very crowded... The staff was overall excellent and worked very hard! Many thanks for your service! We will definitely come back again, and we will recommend.

The breakfast area is very small, and always fill so crowded...so e people were frustrated for finding a place to eat but fortunately the staff was very helpful showing the other tables near the desk were they could enjoy their breakfast. It would be nice to have some renovation in the breakfast area and to make it bigger in space...also a jacuzzi or a pool, why not?

It was kind of away from everything but it was close to a pharmacy and a cafe, a burger place too. It also had a sauna which i got to use on the night before my departure because of its limited timeframe that could have been used. Breakfast included was nice, only took advantage of that option the morning before i was set to leave, because i don't usually have options like these in general and i fully forgot this was available.

The room was nice and big enough, the only thing i didn't agree with was the musty smell in there, but overall it was a nice stay.

I booked a windowless room but later was given a very good room with a window and on the top floor. I was impressed by the size of the room, very spacious and it had everything I need for a hotel of this caliber. Breakfast with a good selection was included. What for me is very nice is that the bathrooms are equipped with a bidet and that the room has a safe box. On top of that I think it's insane value that they offer a sauna that is free-to-use for guests on the top floor. The hotel is also conveniently located very close to Urheilutalo (Idrottshuset) tram stop served by lines 2 and 4 as well. Overall, very good value for money for that level of service, offered by such a renowned chain (Scandic) in Helsinki. Would definitely stay here again the next time I go to Helsinki.

An electric water kettle would be a good addition.

The location is in the Kalio district which is serviced by the tram system as well as the metro station Sornainen which is about ten-minute walk. I found a lovely way to walk to the city center via a path that follows the perimeter of Toolonlahti Bay. This route you will encounter people, birds, waterfowl, along with beautiful scenery. The breakfast was all that one could ask for with variety and quality. The room was good size, spotless, and supplied with all the necessities that one would need.

The only thing that comes to mind is that my stay wasn't long enough! Once you get familiar with the area it's time to go. Seriously, I could have stayed a few more days for the sights not seen.

We were very happy with our choice to stay at this hotel. The room was relatively small, but you don't spend that much time there. After initially getting a double bed, we were able to switch to 2 separate beds - as I had requested when booking. Contrary to my expectations and what I had read, you could turn off the air conditioning and open the window a little, which is a big plus for me. The location is great. It's a 15-20 minute tram ride into the center, but Kallio is a great neighborhood with lots of restaurants and is very nice and relaxed. We liked the breakfast the most. The selection was very large and varied and there was a special corner for gluten-free and vegan products.

When we arrived, the trash can in the bathroom had not been emptied and there were a few crumbs on the chair and floor. The breakfast room is not that big. If the hotel is full, it is a bit cramped and you might not be able to get a seat right away.

This was the second time we stayed in Scandic Kallio, so we pretty much knew what to expect (windowless room with a student-friendly price). The staff is nice and the location good. The room was spacious enough for the price, the beds were good and everything was clean - except the bedframe covers, where we found a stray pube & some sort of grease stains... The soap dispenser in the bathroom was also broken. The breakfast is the best thing in this location, so a huge recommendation!

The breakfast buffet was generous and tasty. Try the free sauna ... women 18 to 20h, men 20 to 22h. Clothing optional. Also ... there is an EXCELLENT all you can eat sushi buffet called MONO just a 13 minute walk away. We're from Vancouver with its many food options but this was the best we've ever had ... and for the price! (June 2025) Before 5 pm 13.50 euros. After 5pm 15.50 euros incl tax and service.

Breakfast was really plentiful with lots of choice. The room was small, but perfectly enough for one person. The hotel was within easy public transport connections from the city center. Great experience!

The only thing I didn't like was the door to the room next to mine. Some single rooms have a connecting door. It's of course locked, but the sound proofing is not very good, so a lot of sounds come through the closed connecting door.

The location was excellent, tram and bus stops right outside and a15 mins walk to the centre. The breakfast was wonderful, everything you would want. Staff friendly and the rooms were warm and clean
