The hostel is in a great location, with easy access the city center and the bus terminal. It has all the basic facilities anyone would need and it was generally pretty clean. The main lobby has areas where you can work and the wifi is pretty good. There are lockers to put your belongings and if you arrive too early they have storage space.

I was really looking forward staying in a hostel with pods, but it ended up feeling very claustrophobic, especially considering the fact that there are no windows in the rooms. The pods were quite stuffy and I ended up sleeping with my door slightly opened. This is where a lot of the people doing the likes of 'Kiwi Experience' or similar tour stay. So if you self organise your trip it will not be as social as you might think despite the large number of people there as the others will stay in their groups. It can make you feel like an outsider.

LYLO is one of the best I have ever stayed in in all of my 50+ countries. Very new and clean, as well as well thought of— from digital self check-in and check-out, down to the modern pod with sliding cover— it was all worth the price! Large kitchen with complete cooking tools and utensils and large shelvings to store personal food stuff (though i didn’t use kitchen). Room was of 8-bed and still felt roomy. I usually prefer rooms with windows but Lylo’s felt cozy and I had great sleep. They have an in house bar/restaurant and a tatoo and barber corner!

The pod squeaks when I move but not too loud. The bathroom cleaning is done mid day and sometimes I have to go to other floors just to pee or wash my face— maybe do the cleaning at night?

Very nice place to stay. Especially with all the communal areas. Lots of activities going on at Miss Lucy's (although not always very well organised or timely). The pods are very comfortable, with plenty of space to store your things and a secure locker. You can have your own space and privacy, which is not always the case in hostels. The kitchen is large and there is plenty of seating. The staff is nice, and the travel desk thing is very practical. Check-in and check-out are quite easy (you do have to pay 15$ if you want to check-in early tho). I stayed in other hostels since Lylo, and honestly, nothing compares to it. By far the best hostel I've ever been in.

These details annoyed me a little, but they don't change the rating I give this place: The bathrooms can get very slippery because of the water coming out of the showers. There are no brushes to clean the toilets after us, so sometimes you have a souvenir of the previous person (lovely...) More often than I could count, mostly in the morning or end of the day, only one toilet had toilet paper in the girl's bathroom. Which was very annoying. It does get warm very quickly in the pods, but if you turn on the room fan and your pod fan, it's kind of okay.

It was one if the best hostels I ever stayed at. The pods are big and comfortable and you can really close them. That way you don’t really hear a lot from others in the room. The bathrooms were spacious and the interior everywhere was nice. The whole atmosphere was really open so it was easy to meet new people, especially in the kitchen area. The location was great as well.

The kitchen didn’t have any kitchen gear like mixers or stuff like that. There was one Airfryer but at least one oven would have been nice. And in the showers there weren’t a lot of opportunities to put your clothes and the rags that are there could use a good cleaning.

I really enjoyed staying at this hostel during my time in Auckland. It was convenient to get to from the airport by the transport bus, to stroll into the centre and the main sites - about 15 minutes walk - and to get to pickup locations for tours. The hostel itself has 24 hour check in with digital check in and a staff member most of the time. The whole bottom floor is an open plan communal area with different seating areas where I saw people working on laptops, reading and just chilling, as well as a large kitchen area with lots of space (shelves and fridges) to store food and cook for yourself. There was always a good handful of people around even though we were heading into winter and off season and from walking in the door there was a friendly, welcoming vibe. There was also an attached bar area where you could go and chill on sofas or sit in bar stools - the food there was phenomenal and the coffee was also fantastic. Recommend trying it out if you stay here! The rooms are pods with a little slidey door on each pod. There were lights and charging areas within each one and a large bag storage cabinet per bed which was linked to your room card. I was in the 12 bed dorm and found that there was lots of space, it was quiet and peaceful and clean. Beds were comfy and spacious coming with linen etc. The staff members I saw were friendly and helpful adding to the lovely vibe of the place. The bathrooms were communal on each floor - it did take a little bit of time to find it the first time as it is built a little maze esk with lots of corridors but it is well signposted and great quality when you get there - there were more than enough showers all kept clean and presentable so no waiting and no ickyness either. Really enjoyed staying here, I would stay again in an instant and recommend to others as well.

can't think of anything

Plenty of free activities through the week including free pizza on Thursdays. If visiting Lylo Auckland and you like going out I definitely recommend participating in their Wendsday event. This event comes for a cost of 15 nzd and includes entry in 4 bars, 4 drinks and helps to mingle. Enjoyed cleanliness and equipment as the size of the bathroom.

Even though, it is not far from the center the location could be better. Personally, most of my time and activities were centered around the viaduct habour which takes around 20min to walk to due to the long lasting traffic lights. Nontheless, there is a bus station around the corner to get out of the center to e.g. mount eden. Also, the skytower is only a short walk away.

The hip and chill vibe, facilities and bathrooms that are regularly cleaned and dried even at late hours. Left behind toiletries are neatly placed in free-to-take bin in bathroom—very eco friendly. Great pressure in showers thought more hooks would be welcomed. Bed was super comfy with fresh linen. Love the brilliant soft shut sliding door to individual pod that gives privacy. Everything is organized and easy to use. Location borders sketchy side of Hobson but the opposite direction takes you to the trendier, busier and more touristy part of Auckland, all walkable if you’re reasonably fit (hilly terrain). Seems to attract travel bugs and sociable, friendly travellers from everywhere. Has onsite restaurant with so-so food. Better options beyond its walls. Always someone at reception to help with questions. Great lockers with digital locks to save you from having to carry one more key.

The dusty air vents kept blowing little dust bunnies inside the pod when it’s turned on. Bio debris that collect under and around mattress could be removed if the area were to be vacuumed each time after linen replacement. More hooks inside pod, locker and room could be helpful.

Location is good 500meter from skytower & intercity bus stop and cleaning was really good room washrooms were clean. Towel they will provide and one restaurant is there inside the hotel and one trip advisor counter is also next to reception which will help you to plan your trips. Wi-Fi is also very good and covered in all areas.

They won't allow any early check in you have to pay for all extra hours for example if you try to check in before 7am they will charge full day. Pillow and mattress is not comfortable. I got bad neck pain due to pillow but upon approaching to reception they gave me one more pillow and cooling is having issue if you are staying in pod it will become very hot due to that I was unable to sleep.

Great location just a 5min walk from Sky Tower. IMPECCABLE cleanliness of the entire property, be it the dorms, the bathrooms, the kitchen and common areas- which can’t be easy given the hostel capacity and number of guests. Well equipped kitchen; I didn’t use it much as I opted for readymade soup bricks most nights there but some people were cooking entire meals from scratch. Comfortable bed capsules giving you lots of privacy. Also the dorms are soundproof, you won’t hear anything from outside. Lots of social events/activities organized by the cafe/restaurant located in the ground floor (didn’t try but was nice to see). Washing machines available for a cost of 10$ (wash + dryer). You can even iron your clothes which I’ve never seen in a hostel before lol. Last but not least, very friendly and helpful staff.

Huge hostel, with a total capacity of probably +300 people- there were entire Kiwi Experience buses coming at a time. This gave a very “industrial”/mass tourism feeling to the place and the kitchen could be crowded at peak dinner time. The bed capsules are not well ventilated and it can be pretty hot in the night, even in the colder season. I’d rather not try when it’s summer. We could also use more hooks or shelves in the rooms. Above all, and despite all the facilities and amenities offered, i still think it’s overpriced.
