The owner was super helpful and friendly. We ended up loving the NZ concept of a motor lodge. Sitting outside unwinding from a day of travel and sightseeing was perfect. We even got an extra table for our all-important games of Kings. Being in the middle of a neighborhood made for a quiet night, but still gave ready access to the rest of the city.

Not sure where the snafu happened, but I'd booked for two rooms and they only had us for one. We were four friends, and the owner worked out a deal for us, so we all stayed in the one room. It already had a sofa bed, and we got a very comfy air mattress.

Felt very welcome from the moment we arrived. Bo at front desk was very helpful & even helped with carrying our bags up the stairs to our unit on arrival & back down to our car on the days we left. We actually stayed at Alcala twice during our recent trip & both times the 2 staff members were so helpful & attentive. Room service was offered every day. Very roomy 2 bedroom apartment with self contained kitchen including stove. Apartment was clean & quiet with plenty of heating. Great location. Will definitely be staying at Alcala on our next trip.Highly recommend this accomodation.

There isn't anything we didn't like.

From the moment I arrived I felt looked after. The staff member at front desk helped carry my bags to my room then showed me around the place and showed me where extra blankets and pillows etc were stored. Great sized king studio and amazing to have a separate kitchen so no noisy fridge to listen to. Generous sized bathroom too. Surprised how quiet the place was too.

My only suggestion was to have some form of heating in the bathroom (to which the staff member promptly saidnthey would ensure for us in the future) and a bedside lamp would have been a nice touch but all in all I can't recommend this place enough. In fact I'll be back next month with the family

One of the nicest budget motels we've ever stayed in. Loved how much care had recently gone in to the rooms. Appliances were new, clean new curtains, new sofa, one of the best powerful showers we've experienced in accommodation, great comfy beds, new blankets, plenty of heaters to stay warm. Staff were so accommodating making sure we had everything we needed and were extremely helpful.

Bathroom couldd have been slightly cleaner, found several hairs and the carpet in the main area had some stains, but that's me being picky.

Very friendly customer service. No problems changing our accommodation and dates. Good sized room (2 BDR) great to have cooking facilities. Large bathroom, comfy beds. Can walk to city.

Oven was as you walked in so the curtain couldn't be closed when cooking. Also as a shorter person I was unable to close the curtain as we left the room due to inward opening door. Huge spa bath but this made it difficult to climb into/out of shower.

Large spacious rooms were much appreciated, as was parking outside our room. The location is convenient - only short drive to central Christchurch. Excellent quality TV and associated cable services, good wifi. Friendly hosts.

The microwave power cable didn't reach the powerpoint, which was weird. Needed to sit the microwave on the ground to use it

Rooms are very clean & tidy. Beds were all very comfortable. Good temperature in the rooms given the time of year. There is plenty of parking available as well. Nice & quiet spaces. The staff were always friendly & helpful when we interacted with them.

Rooms are advertised with "spa baths" but it's clear they don't want you to use them as there is no plug & the power switch is taped up.

The best stay I have had anywhere in NZ! Great location quite nice newer rooms everything Spotless clean and the bed was heaven! The best part about the Alcala Motor Lodge is the Mgr! The nicest most helpful and kind person I have ever met! Really!! If you need a place to stay in Christchurch this is it!!

The accommodation offers what you need for a short stay, the space was comfortable for both my husband and me, the on-site laundry facilities were convenient for us. After a short 20-minute walk and it is also well connected to the airport by public transportation. The staff were very friendly and helpful during our stay.

There are small lights missing in the bedroom.

The man that welcomed and looked after us during our stay at Acala was a 10/10 guy - helpful, friendly and great communication. The apartment itself was also 10/10, so clean, comfy and had all we needed for the week. Really no complaints and would happily stay again, highly recommend.
