We began our trip of 15 days of the South Island with our first stay at the Randolph Motel Apartment and it was perfect in every way. Room arrangement, the size of the room, the bedding, the mattress, bathroom, washer and dryer to use, kitchenette, they thought of everything. It had everything we needed and expected and did not need or wish for more. We did not realize it at the time, but, it set the bar for our expectations for the rest of our South Island trip. I can honestly say that after 10 overnight stays in different hotel, motel, and a B&B, Randolph Motel was the best of them all, including the much more expensive hotel that should have excelled, but didn't. We ended our South Island trip back where we began before we flew out, at the Randolph Motel. It was wonderful being back in a place we knew what was waiting for us, everything we had expected at all the other places we stayed, except the Randolph Motel did not disappoint. We loved it.

What was there not to like? The manager was also a very pleasant nice man.

Extremely welcoming with excellent communication especially with full instructions on how to use the door key and locking mechanism which is high in security and easy to use. Off street secure car parking. Outside furniture with balcony for the upstairs units. Spotlessly clean inside and outside. Massive unit with new floor coverings and new kitchen and new bathroom, all rooms have everything you need including top of the line laundry, front loader washing machine and dryer. Much appreciated seating options with loungers and dining suite. Extremely comfortable sleep with a super king bed. Fabulous staff members. Well done to you all.

we stayed on two occasions- either side of a weekend- a total of 5 nights. after the weekend when we returned there was no hot water - we were offered a shower in another shower room in a motel further down the street. It was pouring with rain and being in our eighties we did not take up the offer I was disappointed that we still had to pay full price when there was no hot water during that night and day.. We asked for a downstairs room as we had he a heavy suitcase but was told there wasn't one. We did observe during that evening that there were several downstairs rooms vacant.... Apart from that the Randolph was well equipped and we were grateful for the the use of the new washing machine and dryer in our unit in particular. A very convenient location...

The property is well maintained and our room had very modern decor. It provided a washing machine, dryer, spa bath, a fridge/ freeze and an oven. The bed was very comfortable and our room was serviced each day. Being on Papanui Road, we were very surprised at how quiet the room was. The property is also very well lit and secure. Very handy to the shopping centre in Merivale.

There is nothing we didn’t like about the property. We were very happy with everything.

Nice location in merivale. Very clean and tidy room is very modern and comfortable. Two excellent soft sofas to sit on and kitchen is a really decent size aswell. Love the private courtyard at back of the room too!

No where to drop door key at office when leaving in morning. Should have a drop box or something, so just left key inside room sitting on coffee table... dunno if was right thing to do or not I guess cleaner will find it? Had no other option as no one was at office 8am in morning

This stay exceeded our expectations, the apartments were spacious, both in the living area and bedrooms. The furnishing were good quality. The kitchen was also sizeable with everything you needed - great selection of hot drinks. We stayed with another couple and loved that we both got en-suites. The spa bath was an unexpected treat. The whole place was sparkling clean. This will be our go-to for stays in Ōtautahi going forward.

Spacious, very clean & updated room. Kitchenette, washing machine, desk, 2 armchairs, extra large very comfortable double bed, bath robes, soundproofing, adequate parking, very friendly & helpful manager.Motel is approx. 30 min. walk to centre of city (where free parking very hard to come by) We only stayed the 1 night, on check out we wanted to walk up road to a recommended cafe for breakfast, the manager (I'm sorry, I can't recall his name-my apologies) allowed us to leave our packed car in the parking area & pick up on our return. No hurry he said!) This was a great gesture & we were most thankful. If we travel to Christchurch city in the future, this would be our 1st choice to stay. Thoroughly recommended. Reception gentleman, ddnt smile at all , ddnt feel like he was happy we stayed at Randolph, Fridge froze all food and vegetables , had to bin all, as ruined , went to office to tell him he said sorry 😑 people staying in units change stuff , really ? No offer to reimburse. Not at all sympathetic when I asked for a late check out off 12 o'clock, as I had had surgery the day before and couldn't attend a hospital check up untill 2pm that day , He said no as cleaners are finished at 12, not correct on the 3 days I was there and observed ? so latest could be 11am , place was not even quarter occupied ?. The location was very central and set back a bit from the road. The manager was very good about suggesting things to do and see. The bed was comfortable and everything was clean.

The ground floor rooms open to the parking lot with sliding glass doors across the entire front of the unit. If you open the curtains in order to allow light in, you are completely on display. You are either in the dark or have everyone look straight in the room.

The friendly welcome and assistance. Very comfortable accommodation which was roomy, warm and quiet. Also laundry facilities in our room. Daily room service.

Lack of recycling of rubbish and instead of leaving soap and towels to reuse instead of replacement would help the environment. This is not a criticism but a suggestion
