The hotel was located by the lake and my room had a beautiful view. The hotel is near the ferry terminal and shops and restaurants. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The breakfast room was very attractively set out and the breakfast selection was comprehensive.

Everything was perfect about the property but I think Booking.com should provide better directions for travellers who arrive by train - google maps is not that great with its directions when there are many small streets and alleyways to negotiate in historic European towns.

Beautiful historical building with great location, wonderful roof garden

Right on the lake, central location; compact and comfortable room with an up to date bathroom, very clean and comfortable. Old school charm with modern conveniences. The room I booked might be a bit tight for two people but perfect for me. My 4th floor balcony room offered stunning lake views and a nice breeze. Nice staff, no communication issues. Delicious breakfast; you can book a room with or without it.

The lake-facing rooms also face the main road so there is a bit of traffic noise and some light from the lights spotlighting the front of the building— not a problem for me but if you are a light sleeper one of the rooms on the other side of the building might be better.

Great location and view. Having a balcony looking over the lake was great. A bit dated in parts (especially our 'executive' room), but we didn't overly mind - the view made up for it. Our room was small, but maybe ' executive' only meant you get a balcony. Good powerful shower. A few Nespresso pod machines dotted around the hotel. Loved Lugano. Make sure you get the Ticino discount card from the reception. They don't tell you about it unless you know/ask about it! Although it is shown advertised in some random spots around the hotel. This offers discounts for the Vehiculars, free buses etc

The pictures don't always tell the full story. Pictures show rooms as looking fairly modern. Not all are like this. Also, would have been useful to be told when checking in that the hotel offers the Ticino discount card. Should be part of checking in procedures.

The hotel is in a perfect location--right on the lake--for exploring Lugano. It's only a short walk from the train station, so it was exceptionally convenient. The staff at the reception desk were very helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. The breakfast is served in a beautiful room overlooking the lake with a full range of choices for breakfast. You can't go wrong booking this hotel. If we return to Lugano, the Walter will be our #1 choice.

Amazing location , good breakfast , great services, clean room , parking for car was far form hotel 10 min walking , the restraint under the hotel very good, the view from balcony was great.

We chose this hotel due to the close proximity to the Christmas Markets. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful during our stay. The rooms were very comfortable and nice size. We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast and the location was perfect for all the major attractions. Not far from train station (we walked from station to hotel, all downhill) but take the funicular or bus, much easier. Right across the street was the boat shuttle taking you to different points of interest. Must do! Great Italian restaurant right next to hotel which was a bonus. Highly recommend staying here!

Great location. The hotel is quaint and located right near the boardwalk of Lugano lake. Excellent service from the front desk. Elizabeth and Laura gave us instruction which bus to take. Sadly we only stayed one night but we enjoyed every minute and enjoyed walking near the lake. Elizabeth suggested we could sit on the top floor to enjoy the sunset and the lake. Breakfast was great. We hope to return and stay there again.

This hotel has an excellent central location opposite the lake, so a beautiful view. The staff are friendly and helpful with restaurant suggestions and free funicular tickets upon leaving. The breakfast was good. It was very clean, although it is an older hotel with wear beginning to show on the hardwood floors.

The wifi was not good at times and the TV is not a Smart TV so we couldn't watch movies in the evening. My disappointment was getting 2 single beds pushed together when I requested a double bed.
