Building full of character with fascinating archaeology in the basement, friendly staff and ample breakfast. Excellent location, within walking distance to the botanic garden, the harbour, cathedral, town hall, Kunstmuseum (Music Museum was next door), several good restaurants etc. Or by tram outside the door — free travel with Baselcard provided.

There seemed some lack of attention to detail. A missing window blind in my room should have been noticed already and dealt with. It let in heat and light. Nothing was done till I asked, twice - a helpful staff member then managed to make a temporary fix.

We really enjoyed our stay. The room was well-equipped and everything was great — clean, comfortable bed, good lighting, and all the amenities we needed. I especially appreciated the complimentary water and quality coffee. The staff was friendly and well-organized, and the location is very convenient and relatively quiet.

One thing that could be improved is the parking information. It says ‘private parking’ under services, but in fact, there’s an extra charge. I later found this in the FAQs, but it would be clearer if the price was mentioned upfront. Breakfast was quite simple and limited, so personally I wouldn’t recommend booking it with the room - would rather have it somewhere else.

The location was perfect for Basel tourism. The room was fit for purpose for a family trip. The staff was helpful with taxi bookings and a few other requests. I cannot comment on the breakfast due to an early departure.

There were a few things not functional in the room. The shower was partially clogged and two lamps in the room were not functional. Some of the outlets did not seem to work either. However, since the hotel appeared otherwise very well maintained, this should be only a minor issue that can be quickly fixed.

Charming boutique hotel very well located in the city center, shops and restaurants. The staff is very helpful and the breakfasts are good and varied. The family room has a good measure.

The garage/parking is essential as it is impossible to park in the street but expensive and 5-7 min from the hotel on foot. The espace between cars is tight. Family room: my 13-year-old daughter had a supletory bed which was not really stable and fell a couple of times. She ended up sleeping in the sofa-bed with her two young brothers, very low positioned on the floor.

The location of the hotel is close to the city center. You can reach to city center in a 5-minute walk or you can use a tram which passes right in front of the hotel. The breakfast was rich. The room was clean and spacious enough for us. All staff were nice and helpful. Additionally, we stayed in the hotel with our 10-month-old baby and we didn't have any problems with the hotel in means of food and room. All in all, it was an excellent stay for us.

There is no one at the reception after 5 pm. We once had a problem entering our room but when we called the number at the hotel door, a personnel has helped us within the next 5 minutes.

So I was staying in one of the artist rooms, which is covered in photographic wallpaper of an artist's studio. I've never stayed in a room like this before, and I felt it was reflective of Basel's artistic spirit and flare. Breakfast was excellent, with a wonderful range of cheeses, meats and juices, and the staff were very supportive in English, French and German. Dinner in the onsite restaurant was also excellent.

The room I was in looked so much like an artist's studio that the floors were largely unfinished, and the look was artistic but disorganized. And while I'm sure the room was clean, the disorder of the artist's studio meant the room didn't necessarily look clean. This is all part of the experience, which was great, but there will be some who may be put off by the end effect being so different from a standard hotel.

Loved our stay here. The location is great, you’re at the top of the old town. The tram stops right outside and public transport was free with our booking. The staff were friendly, helpful with really good English. We stayed in the SET hotel and loved the modern concrete and steel design with very comfortable beds, separate WC and shower, free tea and coffee in the room and big windows with blinds. All very clean and fresh throughout. Great coffee and cakes in the cafe on the ground floor.

Our room overlooked the trams which was noisy first thing in the morning, but we did have a great view of the old hotel. We shut the window and turned the AC on.

I highly recommend this hotel. It’s in a great location, near to the train station and close to the old town within close walking distance. The room was spacious with a huge comfortable bed! It was clean and perfect for our stay! Please note the hotel does not have a lift so it involves lots of stairs which wasn’t an issue for us, but to be aware if you have mobility issues. Otherwise this is the perfect hotel for you. I cannot fault it. The staff were really friendly and helpful! Dominic was lovely.

Please note there is no air con so during the summer months it can become very warm. It was 30 degrees when we stayed and the room was very warm. They had plugged in a portable fan but it does cool it down as much as you need it too. Otherwise I cannot fault this hotel. It’s perfect.

Lovely older hotel tucked away in Basel. We stayed in newer rooms across the street though very convenient to check in and dining areas. The rooms were large, very clean, and well designed with good sized bathrooms and comfortable beds and linens. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating, both in inquiries before we arrived and in questions we had about transport. The dining rooms are large with well curated menus for both dinner and breakfast. Service is fast, knowledgeable, and friendly. We found ouselves sorry we were only spending one short night there as it would have been a fantastic place from which to explore Basel more fully.

There is nothing that could have been improved for our short stay.

Welcoming staff and very central location. Our building was “old world charm”, but room was very clean with good amenities. Breakfast offering was excellent with varied options. The staff at breakfast were very attentive.

Na. The building we stayed in (historic room) had steps to rooms, (is clearly noted on booking site), so guests who may have a problem with steps should seek the other options for rooms in this hotel.
