Very nice place used a few times now. Older place, well maintained. Staff very helpful and friendly...

You must be aware that some of the rooms are over the house night club, which does stay open most of the night. They have quiter rooms on the back and upper floors if you are more family orientated. Or it is great if you want to party until the early hours..... This is not really a dislike, just a heads up.

The 1812 bar was excellent with well trained and knowledgeable and friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent. The room was very comfortable and clean

The bar so nightclub attached to the hotel is extremely loud at the weekend. I know they tell you this before you arrive so I can't really moan but it's like you're in the bar it's that loud!!! Also, they only let young people in so it's not as if you can enter Bar So and enjoy it if you are of a mire mature vintage!!!

The building is great, the facilities are a tiny bit outdated and there is wear and tear occasionally however it didn't detract from the modern/period style of the property. The staff were friendly and welcoming and we felt quite comfortable. Plus it was very good access to the town and the sea with just perhaps 5 minutes walk. The only gripe we had was that, because we were staying at the weekend, the two club style bars were exceptionally rowdy and kept us awake until almost 5am. But that is likely due to the position of the room (right above the courtyard) and the time of the week. And they did warn us!

I paid £99 for 2 nights including breakfast at the Royal Exeter Hotel. Location is excellent 5 minutes from beach and 10 minutes from town. Lift took me to my room on the third floor. The hallways and staircase are actually quite lovely with red carpet and the staircase is quite grand and looks like mahogany to me really pretty. Very spacious hallways. My room was called superior single but the bed looked like small double. Beautiful view from the room across to the sea. There was a small ingenious tray fixed to the wall with the tea making facilities on. The electric is in the wall built into the tray a marvellous space saving idea! Bed very comfy. Very quiet. Two heaters one in room and heated towel rail in the en-suite. The en-suite was very spacious and the shower was phenomenal!! Super Strong like a power shower. Probably the best shower I have had in any hotel any where in the world! Because even in higher end hotels the shower is often pithy. Some people might moan and say that a few areas around the bathroom could do with re grouting and room furniture a bit dated but did I care?…..no not one bit because at £99 for 2 nights and phenomenal shower I’m happy!! Coming back to the hotel on the Friday evening the function room downstairs had some sort of disco going on which obviously was quite loud. By the time that I got to my room on third floor I couldn’t hear a thing. If noise is an issue ear plugs are a good idea but as I say I didn’t need mine. Perhaps if noise from there would be an issue for you ask to be put as far away as possible because it is a big hotel. Breakfast in the morning was in the same room as the function room which is good because the seats are comfortable velour! I am not a drinker but I did notice a very long impressively stocked bar!!! Breakfast staff were excellent!! Very helpful and pleasant and nothing too much trouble. Lovely pot of tea and good selection of continental stuff and orange juice. All in all a great stay!!!

I can’t think of anything

Great location opposite the BIC & easy walking distance from beach and town centre , good secure car parking , for those looking for entertainment this is the place , two great bars ,the 1812 is superbly decorated , a wonderful social meeting place with regular live music , The SO Bar is a great late night "Disco" bar , wonderfully decorated and, by all accounts great music .. I didn`t venture there I`m afraid ..too old nowadays , but the 1812 is fabulous !!!

Be aware , some rooms may not be quite at night , but to be fair , the hotel do state this, but if you are in Bournemouth for an entertaining break , this will be the place for you !

The central location was brilliant. We could easily walk to the Pavilion theatre, the restaurants, the pier and the gardens. The car park fee was very reasonable. The interior of the Hotel was great as there was the very historic and traditional staircase which reminded us of being in an old National Trust house but the modern bar area and large seating areas that became the 1812 nightclub on the Saturday night was fantastic. The band and the disco were great. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast was great. The bedroom with ensuite was very large, clean and comfortable. We'll definitely stay there again.

Hard to think of something.

Steeped in so much History a beautiful Grade II listed building with a very sympathetic refurb, very tidy and clean throughout. From the moment you arrive at reception you know your stay is going to be enjoyable. The staff are a credit to a great management and ownership team. The onsite Sushi and Tapas bar captained by Cheryl Tio winner of the 2019 MasterChef Professionals is wonderful. The rooms are well decorated and very clean. Bar 1812 has a lively vibe and is staffed with friendly knowledgeable people. Now to the crunch BREKKIE was amazing all great produce and perfect poached eggs the chef even came out to explain to a Vegan couple what he could cook them and how (above and beyond in my eyes). I would highly recommend The Royal Exeter Hotel to anyone who would listen to me...

The one and only thing is the hidden £8 parking fee that you are not told about until check in, it wasn't a problem as you have gated secure parking however I do believe it is something you should be aware of at booking...

This is a beautiful old style hotel. Sadly it needs updating now. New double glazed windows, present ones rattle. Central heating and decorating. However everything is spotlessly clean, staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast very tasty and varied. This hotel will tell you they have live music most nights in the bar. You can hear it, but in room 307 we found it wasn't enough to disturb us. Excellent location, across the road from the BIC, just a few mins walk to the beach, town, gardens.

The lack of central heating, double glazing and the need for redecoration.

This hotel is beautiful, very grand, huge chandeliers , and big old staircases, the hotel seems very clean. We stayed in room 103, which is above the nightclub, however this was a Tuesday night, so no club or issues. The only issue we had, the room was too cold, the heaters didn’t work either, but we had a seaview and the room was huge, shower worked great. Breakfast was good, with a very attentive lady serving us. We also liked the secure gated parking. The recreation lady was also very attentive and friendly. We’d definitely stay again, location is very central to everything.
