I normally rate the Holiday Inn Express chain hotels 9-10, since they never fail to meet my expectations. I'm a frequent guest and an absolute fan! This time around, my mark doesn't go any higher than 8 - and I'll explain why in the designated space below. It was nonetheless a very pleasant stay for 5 reasons: 1) this hotel is in a perfect location: virtually across from Bristol Temple Meads Station, but in no way is the quality of the the surroundings impaired. We took the train to all of the cities we visited, making it very convenient; not to mention the direct bus to and from the airport, which runs every 10 minutes! 2) Either you choose to go to the city centre or the more historic area, you can count on a rather pleasant and scenic 10-15 minute walk, crossing bridges and going past monuments, restaurants, pubs and parks! 3) I slept in an incredibly comfortable bed, which is a Holiday Inn Express trademark! 4) You can have (good) free-of-charge coffee day & night! 5) Value for money - this hotel is indeed cost-effective.

The 6th reason why I most frequently book a room at a Holiday Inn Express Hotel is their fantastic breakfast! Well, mine was a 9-day stay, so I thought "Holiday Inn never lets me down!"... Unfortunately, this time around, breakfast had all you needed - if you were from Britain! Offer was REALLY REALLY limited: no cheeses of any sort, no fresh fruit salad, no bread variety - NO variety whatsoever! If you're no fan of baked beans, scrambled eggs and bacon, well, apart from very few other items on the menu, that's what you'll have every morning! Even the red fruits were tossed in a bowl before defrosting - they were still completely frozen, depending on the time you went down for breakfast or if they had just replenished! I found that very inconsiderate with guests, to say the least.

The location of the hotel is excellent for Bristol Temple Meads, so that was great; the room was clean and there were three mugs and glasses provided for the three of us (I have had issues with this in other hotels); beds were perfectly comfortable, and breakfast was better than anticipated.

The first member of staff I spoke to on arrival was quite perfunctory, and as the shift was changing over she passed us to the next group rather than just checking us in, which I did not appreciate. But once the next staff member took over, all the service from then on was great.

Excellent location, right opposite the train station. Easy to get to from the airport by bus, despite me arriving at 3am! Despite the central location it was quiet. Room was as expected, simple yet comfortable bed and good shower, that's all I asked for

I got a scary message from Booking.com saying my room had been cancelled as 'no show'. This is despite me warning the hotel directly, in advance, that I would arrive after midnight. As it was, my flight was delayed until 2am so last thing I needed upon landing was a message from Booking.com saying that my room had been cancelled! The airport had no signal so it was difficult for me to call the hotel, so panicked thinking what would I do if I was denied my room? Lucklily all ended well as hotel explained the room was there but apparently this is an automated setting by Booking.com so the bad rating should go to Booking I think!

The property was clean, & such a comfortable bed. We particularly liked the dove, hand soap, body wash and shampoo. It was complimented by beautiful white fluffy towels. Generous selection of coffees & teas in the room. The location was perfect as a quick walk to the shopping areas yet quiet enough to recharge. The breakfast was fantastic! So much choice. The bar was warm & welcoming. The staff were absolutely fantastic! We spent Christmas Day in the bar with one member of staff dressed as Santa. They made it a special day for us and couldn’t do enough! Particular shout out to Ellie who was simply an amazing host & lady. Thank you all so much. We will return! X

Nice breakfast, very helpful staff, convenient location near station and city centre. Clean room. Staff very approachable and helpful, for example provided fan when we were hot in the room, let us keep the bags in reception after we checked out so we could explore the city without carrying our bags, and one staff member made my daughter a special hot chocolate, which she really liked!

It’s by a busy road, has triple glazing so not noisy but couldn’t open window when it’s hot. We had a double room with one double bed which me and my daughter shared, there was only one duvet available to share, having two single duvets so we could have one each would’ve been nice.

The hotel is very close to the central train station. The rooms are comfortable with good beds and climate control. The staff has been very friendly. Easy to discover the city from the hotel (10-15 min by foot to old centre).

The breakfast is really just fine. However, we stayed multiple days (4 nights) and the breakfast doesn't offer any cheese or cold cuts. Some more variety in bread or crackers (more whole grain) would also be recommended. Toast is typically english but more international visitors may expect other alternatives.

Great location. Central Bristol, right opposite the train station. The hotel was very clean. Staff were excellent. Very helpful, polite and went over and above to help. (I asked for mayonnaise and they didn't have any so they "borrowed" a bottle from a colleagues personal supply). Room was a decent size , all the amenities you'd want. Comfy bed. We stayed the next day and worked in the bar area where there was plenty of space and free WiFi which was really handy.

Unfortunately the rooms aren't soundproofed and the windows let in an awful lot of noise. You can hear ambulance sirens and loud exhausts which sadly disturbed my sleep. If the hotel had better windows it would be fab.

Ideal location for the vibrant docks area, directly opposite the station. The breakfast selection was good and the staff were fantastic. Good value for money on a Sunday evening when we stayed. The reception and bar area is modern.

It’s central city so there was noise, not unexpected, but the police seem to base themselves at the train station so sirens went off during the night multiple times. The hotel is quite dated excluding the main reception and bar and the rooms are tired, albeit clean. The hotel parking was offered at £13 but when we questioned this we were advised using Ringo was cheaper overnight (when arriving around 6pm).

From the moment we arrived until the day that we left everything was wonderful. The staff, especially Dan, the Manager, was warm and welcoming and made us feel special at all times. Although it was a very busy period for them, the staff were always pleasant, helpful and attentive. They enabled meals, outside of breakfasts, to be ordered ( takeaways) at any time, and enjoyed in the warmth and comfort of the dining room. We even had our Christmas dinner organised and brought in by the manager on his way to work! The cleaners were also friendly and attentive.

Nothing to add here.

Breakfast was excellent having lots to choose from, Location was great for us, as the Train Station was just across the road , and just as easy to get into the city centre. As I am Registered Partially Blind, staff were excellent, who helped with everything I needed. Many Thanks you to Zara who went out of her way to make my stay as comfortable as she could, and thanks to the rest of the staff at your hotel.

Twin beds as booked for, to which we didn’t have. As we were two Grandmothers ( feeling a bit uncomfortable with the sleeping arrangements) coming to spend a wonderful weekend with our Granddaughter who was in University.
