The location is ideal, well connected with the bus 9, calmer than the centre of Edinburgh but still very close to the centre. Also close to a beautiful lushious parc, an ice cream shop, a co-op that is open till late and a good fish and chips restaurant. The backgarden was very sweet and cozy. Big, spacious kitchens! Appreciated the system of taking care of the bathroom items left behind and making them available for the other residents instead of throwing them away.

There were not many toilets so it could get crowded at times, but the toilets themselves were fine. The bunkbeds were a little wobbly and squeaky. It would have been nice with a bedside lamp for each bed.

It's cozy, usually pretty quiet, with a collection of all kinds of things around the place. The garden is really nice (if you're lucky to have sunny days) and was very useful for us, as we were traveling by bicycle and needed space to store them and also to pack them at the end of our stay. Bonus: usually lots of food and toiletries freebies! (check the "free" area before stocking up!)

Cleanliness could improve. Wifi had some spotty days. The more than 20 bike travelers that stayed during our stay would appreciate some kind of roof for the bikes.

The location is central but not too touristy, I was glad it forced me to see an area that I'm sure I would've missed if I had stayed in the very centre. I didn't mind walking 20mins to get to the main attractions and the walk through the Meadows was lovely everytime.

From the second day I was only using the shower downstairs because the others always had a problem going on with them. The shower closest to my room had no water pressure and the water was very cold (after 8-10 minutes the water would get lukewarm). But my experience with UK hostels showers in general has been disappointing, I would say it was pretty standard.

This place has a nice vibe and energy. Staff is very friendly and welcoming and the old building has its charm. All you need to have a pleasant stay is there, just bring a positive attitude with you 🙂 It was my first time staying in a hostel and I'm glad I have picked this place. Late check-in was smooth, instructions given were clear. Same for check out (don't be a primadonna and take those sheets off). During the stay, I didn't use the kitchen but saw that all you may need to self cater was there. Toilets and bathrooms were clean and even if you had to wait a bit in the morning for one to be free it was no biggie (it's a hostel, plan it better next time Karen and Kevin!). There are lockers in the room (you need a lock though) but overall, the place feels safe. I will definitely come back!

Nothing. Place is exactly as in pictures and for this price it met all my expectations if not exceeded them. If there is any problem you can tell any staff member about it.

Location. I always feel safe and relaxed here The hot bath, comfortable bed with access to communal kitchen -kettle/ microwave before/after going out Cafes/ independent shops buses close by.The Argyle bar only feet away has some superb musicians! Hugh and all the staff Argyle Hostel are friendly and helpful but never intrusive.Ialways appreciate special request for lower accommodation being granted due to age and health issues.

Nothing. Fabulous time. I've stayed before so know what to expect Any niggles are usually outweighed by the positives and fair value for cost. Much comes down to the conduct of the other residents who 99%>of the time are polite and considerate. Its great to see them having a good time in Edinburgh.

The location is a bit far from Old Town and the main attractions (about 25 minutes). Looking back, I wish I had prioritized a better location, especially in the colder weather. However, this place is charming and cute. There aren't too many guests (not too crowded), I had a nice and comfortable bed, and the free coffee/tea was a nice touch. The facilities are a bit outdated and having only one bathroom per floor was inconvenient at times, but you get what you pay for. Overall, it's a good value place to stay for one or two nights.

The whole staff were just the nicest people ever, making sure that everything was good, helping me with directions and customs as a first-time hostel traveller. It's cosy and warm and welcoming. The location of the hostel is amazing - everything is reachable on foot or with busses. I will recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, a bit rustic, and authentic place to stay in Edinburgh.

I had a wonderful stay at Argyle Backpackers! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with anything I needed. The rooms and bathrooms were spotless, which made the whole experience even more comfortable. One of my favourite parts was the lovely sitting area by the kitchen — the perfect sunny spot to relax with a cup of coffee in the morning. Highly recommend this place if you’re visiting Edinburgh!

Everything was great!

A warm atmosphere, coffee and tea available, very helpful communication with staff via email, easy instructions, all that I needed - I found quickly, even barely asking anyone. A lovely double room with amazing view of Holyrood Hill, suited very well for a family of a parent and a child. Kitchen was equipped with everything I needed. All was clean. Lovely gardens. Thank you so much! We hope to return here again 🪐

The location is perfect! We walk to the center! The area is nice with a huge park. The beds are comfortables. If you need to check out and want a space to let your bags for the day it is possible.

The bathrooms are not great. Missing toilet paper, water on the floor no towels to clean it (by the way you need to pay for towels so bring your own), in one bathroom there is no mirror whereas there is a space for it, ... Etc. improvements to make but overall it was a good stay.
