This beautiful small hotel is a jewel. The location is wonderful and the property is a mini-botanical garden right next to the one that gives it it's name (dos Cantos). The staff are superb; cheerful and accommodating, knowledgeable and helpful. Fabio and Miriam assisted us in many ways with suggestions for outings, making reservations, helping plan routes and answering any questions we might have. There was staff on-hand 24 hours per day. Both the rooms and the public spaces show off the lovely features of the hotel. We wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending the Solar Dos Cantos to travellers to Ponta Delgada.

One small improvement would be more space to hang clothing.

This villa is extraordinary and we felt like a royal couple for this weekend. The house is crazy beautiful with a wonderful garden and a huge mammut tree that looks like from the jungle. The whole estate looks like painted. Everything is very calm, the personal incredibly friendly (they made us a breakfast at 4:15!!), the breakfast very tasty and high quality, the room was beautiful with a wonderful view and and furniture full of Stil, we slept like babies. Eventho we were almost the only guests due to off season, they prepared the whirl pool for us, so we could go into the whirl pool under the stars. Whoever wants a extraordinary wonderful place to stay this is perfect and we can highly recommend it.

Everything was perfect

Great breakfast with healthy options, beautiful building, relaxed atmosphere, the setting in a gorgeous gorgeous garden. The room was great, I really enjoyed the location with the views over the city. You could easily reach the town centre on foot, but the hotel's location also meant it was very easy to drive to locations all over the island without having to spend much time getting out of town. Special mention to the wonderous, magnificent fig tree in the garden.

It was quite chilly when we were staying and it would have been great to have had a heated pool.

The breakfast buffet was great, especially the honeycomb, pastries and fresh orange juice. Breakfast hours were generous (until 11am), as was the checkout time of noon. Tea and coffee were available in the breakfast area all day, and there was sparkling and still water and a coffee machine in the room. I arrived early but the staff had my room ready in 15 minutes. Overall they were really helpful and friendly. The changing facilities for the infinity pool (which was bigger than I expected) in the garden were warm and extremely spacious, and, like the open-air jacuzzi, apparently open all night. Robes, slippers and pool towels were provided in the room. Given the changeability of the Azores weather, it was a boon to have a real fire on request in the main reception room.

There is no restaurant as such, but though a limited choice of food (soup, sandwiches, 'pizza') may be ordered to eat in the breakfast/reception rooms the kitchen had run out of salad before 8pm the night I stayed.

My husband and I loved our 5 night stay at Solar dos Cantos! The common spaces were beautiful, our room was roomy, beds comfortable and all was kept perfectly clean. The staff were so sweet and attentive. I loved having my breakfast out on the terrace while listening to the mourning doves. They also have a very nice coffee in which they use top coffee beans. It was self-serve and a real treat! The pool and hot tub were so relaxing after a day of sightseeing. I asked for a room with a view of the garden and got a room on the second floor, which allowed us to bring our luggage through a side door directly from the parking area. So did not have to lug our bags up the stairs. The room was also very quiet. I would not hesitate to stay here again!

As some have mentioned, the breakfasts do need improvement. It was the same thing every day. The eggs were a bit runny for my taste. I got the impression that the manager is working to make improvements, so perhaps they will come up with a better breakfast menu. I must say that the lovely young employees work very hard to please the guests.

The property was equipped with everything you needed. They provided the breakdast every morning (same meal everyday) with a variety of options. The pool was amazing to go into for an early morning rise or after a hot sunny day. The staff were very nice and gave us everything we needed. They even let us check in early at 10am and also offered us breakfast even though we didnt technically get the room until 3pm. The girl at the front desk helped us with our car rental issue. She was very kind and very helpful.

The only thing I didnt enjoy was the area the property was in. The area can be sketchy with many men standing in the streets and dirty with garbage everywhere. My wife and I didn't feel comfortable walking through it. It's unfortunate because it is the main street that takes you right doen to the city center. Minor issue: the hotel is beautiful and has all the modern asthetics. However, the glass door to the bathroom would always get stuck on the tile floor and it wouldn't open unless you pushed up with a decent force. Also the ventilation in the bathroom wasn't the best either. Again, these are minor issues . We still would come back again as the place is beautiful.

The green territory, the newly renovated building, the views to the city - everything was quite special! The place is located inside of botanical garden, so there’s plenty to explore inside the property, and lots of places to hang out at. The staff was very friendly, not a corporate hotel but a cosy guest house: you get to meet and chat to the same staff every day, so they start feeling like your friends/family at breakfast.

Everything was great! The only thing i wish there were some vegetables for breakfast, like tomatoes, cucumber, salad leaves, or any other green things.

The hotel and surroundings were beautiful, parking is off the road and secure as well as convenient for carrying your bag to your room. The staff are friendly and helpful and breakfast is a really treat. The rooms are large and comfortable with everything you need, we did not swim but the pool and hot tub looked very inviting

The walk to town is wonderful as all downhill but be prepared for the uphill walk coming back. At least we had a cold beer waiting when we got there.

The property was absolutely beautiful, well decorated and designed. It is recently renovated. Our favourite thing about the property was the cat and kittens which live in the (on-site) botanical garden - they were so cute and added to the outdoor breakfast experience.

The only thing that we didn’t like was that the room felt a little bit small, especially the bathroom - there is no true divider between the room that the toilet is in and the bedroom other than a half door. Other than that, it was perfect.

We are first time visitors to the Azores and everything about Solar dos Cantos we was a delight. The building and grounds were beautiful. The staff were wonderful, warm, welcoming and delighted to answer questions, offer services and suggestions, invite us to enjoy the evening fire, recommend activities etc. we thoroughly enjoyed everything about our time at Solar Dos Cantos.
