The staff were very helpful and friendly, particularly in the bar where we had drinks and food after returning from a concert. The cocktails were excellent, as was the food. The location of the hotel is fantastic, perfect for walks along the river.
The cleanliness of the room just wasn't up to scratch, particularly given the cost of staying here. The bathroom smelled of wee, the floor wasn't clean, and the top of the bath panel was particularly dirty. Also, dust on all the surfaces in the room and the phone was grubby. I can't recall staying in a less clean hotel room. Due to staying for only one night and having limited time in Newcastle we didn't want to change rooms, and therefore didn't complain. To be frank it should be right in the first place. This experience would definitely put us off paying a premium to stay here in the future.

We've stayed several times at the Mal and have never been disappointed. From the very friendly greeting by Dave on reception, we arrived at just after 2pm and we were told that our room was ready early which is always a great bonus so we checked in and went up. We had the deluxe room with bridge view, as we've had a few times before, and the view is just awesome. It has been around 9 years since we last stayed here and we loved the new decor in the room. Brighter and more colourful while still feeling very spacious, excellent options for coffee with the Nespresso machine aswell as coffee bags and tea facilities and even hot chocolate. Another bonus was the tv channel options, sky tv Premier league aswell as other sky tv channels. First time we've experienced that in any Hotel, it's just not expected! We would say in honesty that the tv was maybe a little small for the room size but only a very minor point. Breakfast was very well appointed with the options of buffet style continental breakfast and/or cooked breakfast. We had the full English, toast, croissants, coffees, juices and bacon muffins which were deliciously faultless! Special mention to Tessie or Jessie who was bright and had a lovely welcoming energy, and a very lovely Northern Irish accent. She was fantastic! Nothing was any trouble. We enjoyed our stay very much, and if anything we reminded ourselves of why we chose Malmaison again. Brilliant Hotel!!

The staff were excellent and the hotel was very clean .The complimentary drinks etc on our arrival mid afternoon were a nice touch. The location was excellent.
The place was very dark. The room did not provide mirrors at a useable height. Poor lighting location in bathroom which cast a shadow when using the basin. No power or usb sockets close to the bedside cabinets which was irritating when charging phones. The TV was oddly placed offset towards the window. We felt the breakfast was expensive and the price point was set to corporate customers.

My husband and I always like having our little staycations in this fabulous hotel! We would normally book a room for New Years Eve so we could watch the fireworks on the Quayside, or to celebrate little wins we have. This particular stay was for my birthday, topped with watching Les Miserables at the arena. (I especially loved the gentleman at the front desk - he commended us for deciding on a staycation! 😊) We always have a lovely stay here. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and couldn't do enough for you. Rooms are quite spacious and clean, and impeccably done. Food from the restaurant is also amazing! My favourite person to encounter is the scottish lady during breakfast service. She's so lovely - everytime we encounter her I always feel so happy. The only negative thing that I keep forgetting to always write (now, I remember) is that the pillows are too soft for me - I feel like I get smothered by the smushyness. Also, I don't like the fact that the sockets are really far from the beds - because the rooms are so spacious, I feel like I literally have to travel to charge my phone. However, these are just minor things that can be improved over time. The quality of service has always been amazing, and that I really cannot fault. See you guys again, soon!

Location was excellent, near to bars, restaurants, shops and attractions Staff were extremely helpful and friendly Bed was very comfortable Bridge view Room was a good size, bed was big and comfy, warm, shower was great! Breakfast was amazing with alot of choice Cocktails in the bar were tasty and a great pre night bit of fun Millennium bridge is outside of the hotel and looks brilliant lit up at night Parking was easy and relatively well priced. £26 for 3 nights/4days Some great local pubs nearby, The Tyne and The Free Trade Inn being particularly lovely with great ales and atmosphere Persian Restaurant Dood was amazing and worth a visit as was the local Miller & Carter steakhouse both within walking distance Overall a lovely stay!

Beautiful huge bedroom with river view, joined to a living room, stand alone bath and separate bathroom. Really good dinner and breakfast. Staff in restaurant were all absolutely lovely. Very comfy large bed and nice bedding.
Only one large and one small towel in the suite, seemed a little 'tight' for two people especially as there was a stand alone bath in the living area and a seperate shower room. Never asked for more to be fair, as we only used the shower and I am sure it would not have been a problem to bring more. The living room could do with a lamp, their were two in the bedroom along with bedsides and table top lamps. It was either all ceiling lights on or complete dark for watching the tv. Couple of easy fixes to make the suite just that bit better.

the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. the hotel gave free drinks to the GNR participants which was nice. we ate in the restaurant on the Saturday night and the food and service were great. The beds were comfortable, the room was a little warm. finally we were lucky in that we had a room overlooking the river, which was magical.
the furnishings and fabric of the building is starting to look a little tired. the floor of our bathroom had water scale marks both on the floor and on the skirting. for a premium hotel, this was not great.

Been previously and enjoyed hotel experience and were given the top floor room as it was our anniversary This time nice room with bridge view
Room not clean Bins not emptied evidence of flu medications and used tissues as well as dust on bedside lamp surfaces ( photos taken). My husband has a health condition which includes high risk of catching infections especially linked to respiratory issues which leads to immunosuppressive issues. I contacted reception who sent up someone to change empty the bin. My concern was was there a risk of surface to hand cross contamination if the room hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly? I was very disappointed of Malmaison. I was offered to speak to duty manager but I thought no point as was told on checking in that hotel was full so therefore couldn’t be moved to another room.

Malmaison Newcastle wasn’t just a stay—it was a life-changing adventure. Sharing the hotel with the entire Mumford and Sons band, André 3000, and the legendary Phil Collins was like stumbling into the coolest fever dream imaginable. The highlight had to be when Phil Collins got into a heated argument in the lobby with what he thought was a disgruntled Tesco employee blocking the plug sockets… only for everyone to realize he’d been passionately venting his angers to a diesel-powered generator. The laughter was contagious, and somehow, in the middle of all this, I ended up landing a job! A casual chat over breakfast turned into an opportunity to help rub garlic butter into baguettes for Farmfoods. Who knew my stay would come with career prospects?
It’s hard to fault a hotel when you’re living in what feels like an improvised sitcom. That said, the combination of Mumford and Sons rehearsing harmonies, André 3000 offering investment opportunities for his new Instagram lashes page and Phil Collins yelling at industrial equipment made it a bit difficult to get a peaceful night’s sleep. But honestly, I didn’t mind—it was worth every sleepless moment.

Lovely hotel, we booked a suite lovely room staff were very accommodating. Breakfast was great and all the servers made you feel at home. Will stay again.
Husband is a wheelchair user it was hard getting in the hotel, there was a ramp to get you to the door but when at the door could not access himself. Spoke to reception to see if this is something that could be looked at in the future and was told no but my husband could phone reception and they would come and open the door. On my way to hotel I tried ringing the hotel 3 times before someone answered.
