I was upgraded to the best room in the hotel, and what a treat it was! Stunning view of the ocean with sitting chairs overlooking it. A mini fridge was provided with fresh bottles of water. The staff was wonderfully helpful and kind. I loved the location, though it was slightly on the outskirts of town. It was very peaceful.

I extended my stay by one night and was moved to a different room that had a slight musty/mouldy odour to it. Also the wifi was out during my entire stay, and there was no cellphone reception -- which is fine while I was on holiday, but would be troublesome if I needed to work/contact people.

Not a criticism as such as personal preference & was only short stay & reasonably priced. Could have done with a blind on window Between toilet & shower room. Made room very light. Toilet door would not shut properly. Top pain of glass in shower room cracked right across & bottom window would not close. Drawers very difficult & noisy to shut. Divan very noisy when in bed. Could have done with one comfy chair. These are just small things which could so easily be rectified.

This is a small privately owned hotel that's been converted from an old victorian/edwardian or similar age heritage house. It's best described as quirky; some things are good, and others not so good unless perhaps you bear in mind the price. All staff I met were pleasant and helpful. I especially enjoyed the DIY breakfast, but there is help at hand if needed with the breakfast. Quirky - some things were good, the breakfast and staff, comfort of the room, free wifi, tea and coffee making facilities and location; some things a bit off: one lamp wasn't working, the door to the room didn't feel too secure, some cleaning had been missed or hurried, breakfast room was not open at scheduled time with no sign of any staff. However this was my second stay as a solo traveller and I would stay again.

The less positive aspects of the quirkiness. The worrisome room door. The toilet seat underside wasn't clean. The free water bottles weren't afaict sealed so I didn't use them.

Like many seafront hotels, it's a little tired round the edges (literally in the case of the stair carpet) but our room and the view more than made up for it - clean, a fridge, two double beds and a spectacular sea view through all three bits of the bay window. I think we'd been upgraded! The staff were very nice. Wi-fi is now fixed (re another review). We chose the location to be nearer to the Meads/Downs side of town, but it's also still very close to the centre. A very quiet, relaxing stay.

The continental breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and the atmosphere informal and relaxed. The ladies who tended the dining kitchen were helpful and lovely. Also the reception and cleaning staff were very welcoming and helpful also, finding a ground floor room for me as the flights of stairs to the top floor were a struggle for me. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who prefers a less formal environment.

Maybe a few finishing touches to the decoration here and there.

It’s a great little hotel! You get good value for money and the rooms are spacious and super comfy, we were right at top and had a wonderful sea view. I really enjoyed my stay and will book again for next year. Thank you Halcyon.

The shower took a while to drain away, first time I used it I was convinced I was going to flood the bathroom, but I didn’t and it did drain, just a little slower than normal. The breakfast room was a little confusing on first visit but I believe the girl who was in there to help may have been new to the job so I won’t hold that against them. Brekkie is a simple help yourself cold meats, cereal, breads, and tea, coffee or fruit juice. Enough to get you started and head out to explore.

It is a beautiful , well lit, modernised Edwardian building which still maintains many of its original features and resonates a positive and peaceful vibe. My room was spacious, ventilated, clean and well looked after. The breakfast was continental, with good options to choose from. The staff members I encountered were welcoming, friendly, professional and really did contribute to my stay being that much more enjoyable and relaxing. The hotel itself is in an ideal location, it has a spectacular view, overlooking a quiet part of the beach, which is only two minutes from it's entrance. It also is conveniently located that within 5 - 10 minutes walking time, I could be in the more busier and touristy part of the seafront. If you are looking for a place to stay in Eastbourne, I would highly recommend you consider this place.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Halcyon Private Hotel, and it was such a wonderful experience that I extended my stay until Friday, and I might stay even longer. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by the kind and helpful gentleman at reception, setting a positive tone for my entire stay. My room is spacious, impeccably clean, and boasts a stunning sea view from the bath. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is calm and peaceful, which I absolutely adore. The bed is incredibly comfortable, and the room is tastefully decorated with pleasant toiletries provided. One of the highlights of my stay is the breakfast included in the price. The lovely lady who organizes breakfast is cheerful and makes every morning delightful. Enjoying breakfast at a table overlooking palm trees, the sea, and the sun is a serene experience that I look forward to each day. Despite the room being busy, it remains fairly silent, allowing for a peaceful start to the day. The Halcyon Private Hotel is truly a gem, situated just one street away from the Grand Hotel and close to the beach. I’ve decided this will be my go-to place with a view until I complete my property purchase. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a tranquil and delightful stay.

Our room was lovely (1) but unfortunately the room above had a child/children who were constantly running around their room - no carpets meant that the noise was quite loud from 6.30am - 10.30pm, whenever I returned to the room they were there. I am recovering from being ill and needed to rest so I heard it more than most others may have done!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Halcyon. The room was spacious and had a lovely view over the seafront. It was clean, had a fridge which was a bonus and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice.

A lift would have been a bit easier for carrying luggage but the staff were only too willing to help. Unfortunately the Internet connection was down but it didn't really affect us or spoil our stay.
