Good sized room. Gardens are lovely. Restaurant dinner & service was very good. Large establishment.

Confusion over billing system. Not seasoned travellers, but aren't without intelligence either. Our room was paid for in advance at a special rate. Had dinner for the first night put onto room account. This was debited to the credit card we had supplied. Had early flight next day, so went to check out, but they wanted a payment. I told them that our credit card already had the amounts debited but was told that we still had to pay again as the previous deduction was just a 'hold' and it takes up to 10 working days to be removed. As we were travelling, this was concerning as some people have smaller limits on their credit cards. I felt a little bit embarrassed. I'm still not sure how it works. I guess it's an American system as we stayed at an even more prestigious hotel with no issues.

The check-in and check-out experiences, and the whole experience of the stay were really lovely. We arrived just before dinner time after a long drive and the staff made us feel welcomed and looked-after. Check-out was really a breeze and again, we felt welcome to linger on in the lovely environment. We had a beautiful room with a balcony, quiet and peaceful. It is amazing that such a peaceful place is nestled within easy reach of Riccarton eateries and the main town centre of Christchurch. Our first time in Christchurch, what a wonderful memory.

The pool was undergoing upgrading and was not accessible, it would have been good to highlight this to guests before arrival.

Our receptionist was super. The room was great. Warm and comfortable. Bedding was pristine. Good bathroom with quality amenities. Dinner in the restaurant was lovely. Breakfast was good. The free parking and so close to our room was really good too. The gardens and overall ambience of the hotel was welcoming and restful. We would love to go there again.

Staff shortage (?) meant used dishes from the breakfast buffet sat on our table and the reception from the lady at the desk in the restaurant could have been more friendly - I think she was run off her feet hence being slightly short with us.

Bed and shower were amazing. The staff were also fantastic. Love the do not disturb sign much better than the cardboard ones that always fall off. The aircon also is the best I've found in any hotel of its size. The grounds keeping crew have made a wonderful gardens. Also really liked the text message service it really streamline communication between giest and front desk

I noticed the firedoors get shut at night to help with keeping the hotel warm as the some areas definitely must be a struggle to heat with the age of the building. But they are rather squeaky they at least need a good oiling or maybe the hinges need replacing as I'm sure they can be heard in rooms near by.

Easy to find, clean and pleasant staff

No menu in room, it’s really annoying to have to look on a tv for a menu. I had to search it online and then nothing had prices. We gave up and went somewhere else for dinner. At a different motel the next night, first positive, they have a menu with pricing. Sometimes the basic stuff is easier for your customers

Very comfortable bed. Reception was able to accommodate our cardboard bicycle boxes in their storage room during our stay. Breakfast buffet is nice and had good gluten-free options

Having to pay extra for coffee made by the barista at breakfast buffet - this was not what we expected at a "Qualmark Silver, 4 Star rated property". Perhaps we timed it wrong but we were invariably having breakfast amongst a noisy tour group speaking in a different language which eroded the dining experience. Dated hotel. Gym is very small so you very quickly get into other gym users' personal space. It would be a nice touch if there was a healthier gluten-free option to the complimentary sugar-loaded cookie offered upon arrival

Convenient for town (about 30 minute walk through the gardens) and airport. Used the (small) gym. Room was clean and comfortable. Liked airy reception area. Breakfast was good with lots of staff. Close to 2 bus routes to/from airport.

Arrived early (1pm) and were told room might not be available at 3pm due to people having late checkouts!! Which kind of set us in a bad mood after a long drive. But Arrived back at about 3:30pm and room was ready.. thankfully.

The room was a good size and the bed was large and comfortable. The outdoor heated pool was a very pleasant 27 degrees. The bar and the restaurant served great food.

The fire alarm went off on our first day around 7am, which was fine as it happens, not sure if a drill or something else. But the next morning around the same time, the fire alarm went off again for a while, before being turned off.

Room was lovely, bed was comfy and soft - loved it. Hotel was quiet and we enjoyed our dinner and drinks. Breakfast was good.

Only one thing - when we asked for a long black we got an americano. Long Blacks usually come out in a tulip size cup and is strong coffee, we had a long cup and the coffee was weak. Our friends asked for a long black as well and asked that it comes out in a ordinary size cup, and we got a short black in a small cup. We paid separately for the long blacks, so the staff by the expresso machine, should really been trained on the machine. When you need coffee, you need coffee!

The grounds are an absolute winner for this hotel. We loved walking down to breakfast and gazing at the spring growth through the full height windows. Our room was excellent, well-appointed and comfortable. The buffet breakfast offered an extensive range. We also liked the bar area with its comfy booths. I attended a conference there for two days of our holiday and was impressed with how smoothly that ran in terms of configuring rooms and getting food out for morning and afternoon tea and lunch. The quality of food served was also very high.
